One of the best breakfasts I had. Lovely place open early for breakfast. Freshly made comfort food, everything was delicious! Friendly service. I ordered the Chipped Beef over Toast Points since I never had it before. All breakfast plates come with two sides, except the Breakfast Bowl. The side order of sausage was slightly spicy which I obviously loved it. The side order of Chicken Biscuit was made with real chicken tender, homemade biscuits was really good. Egg Benedict was on daily special. It served with sliced ham. My husband has Omelette.
If you are in Urbana, make sure you give it a try.

Great little place. Food, service, good size portions and lovely atmosphere! We will definitely be going again. My husband is a connoisseur of soft shell crabs, he said these were the best he has ever eaten, including the ones he cooks himself. We can’t say enough good things about this establishment!

Very attractive and relaxing atmosphere, very welcoming. The food is very good and there is too much of it: of course this would not be a problem if one could stop eating! Open until 2 PM for lunch, reopens at 5 PM for dinner. Crabcake is large and very plausible; it is served with one side, a variety of which are available. There are a number of seafood items available, several shrimp preparations and several scallop preparations, all of which sound very appetizing. During my visit the dining area was comfortably full, mostly of senior citizens as I am. Beer and wine are available, but so is water, iced tea, lemonade and coffee.
Desserts disappear rapidly, perhaps well before 2 PM—just a suggestion!
I did not see the dinner menu, but the photographs of rare roast beef from other reviewers suggest that Big Oak Cafe may be one of the last great resorts for a massive old-style dinner. At lunch the speedy and efficient DeeDee H was my server, and I had my food—and two glasses of water—almost before I realized I had given her my order! As she was serving the entire room, I’m not sure how she does it! But I was certainly impressed!
Parking is in the rear, and there is a certain up-hill-ness to gaining the dining room, but everyone finds the effort worthwhile. Perhaps our willingness to adventure is what keeps us all so young!—Or maybe it’s JUST GOOD FOOD!

Went here after recommendation from family. Had to wait 30 minutes for the food but it was extremely busy that day. Our server Lucien was attentive. He got everything we asked for and was very polite! I had a crab cake sandwich. Tasted fresh and tasty. I would recommend to try their bread pudding. My highlight was our amazing server!

Was driving back from vacation and needed some food to hold me over for the last half of our trip. I really liked the food and the portion was perfect. I was able to eat it all and not be over filled. Fair price for what I got and was able to feed all 4 of us. I will likely make my way to this little place on another visit from my parents house.

Three of us went for dinner. I ordered prime rib and they said you get 2 sides. I asked the waiter how are the mashed potatoes and Mac & cheese and he said they are both good, so I ordered them as sides. Well, obviously the waiter was trained to say that everything on the menu is good, but I found this not to be true. The Mac & cheese was dry and the mashed potatoes were obviously instant potatoes and were so bland, that hospital potatoes taste 100 times better than what Big Oak Cafe is serving! I scooped them off my plate onto another plate and complained to the waiter. He asked if I want something else, I said I’ll take the sweet potato fries, as I felt they can’t screw those up. When I got my bill, the waiter had charged me $5.50 for the small side dish of sweet potato fries, but did not tell me that I was going to be charged for them. If I had known that, I would not have ordered them! That is ridiculous to charge me $5.50 for a side dish , especially when the instant potatoes were inedible! Let’s just say, that the $5.50 the waiter charged me was his tip!

How dare an establishment tell a potential customer “Thank God we don’t have customers like you.”
Not only did we have a bad experience, but after getting a response to an accurate review like that I will never even consider going back here.
I will not be going back and will most definitely tell everyone I see to avoid this place.
Service- ZERO STARS
Food- no idea, never got to even see a menu.
That was the first time I’ve ever walked out of a restaurant, and I’ve had some bad experiences before.

This place is a true gem. The food is great and the wait staff is so nice. Not many tables so it fills up fast. The food is good with not crazy prices. The rockfish is absolutely wonderful.

We would have loved to have been able to try The food here but it’s hard to order when you have no menus and no attention from the host. We came in and she asked “two” we said yes and she said to sit where we would like. So we did. We sat there for over 10 minutes while we watched her bring drinks to a nearby table then proceeded to clean up another table taking her tips because that and standing at the counter drinking her drink was more important than acknowledging that we were there or to even bring us menus. After 15 minutes we just left. Need a better hostess!
Reply to the RUDE owner! Unfortunately yes this was in Urbanna as we are staying in Bethpage RV resort. Yes you do have menus but we were NEVER given any. We waited 15 minutes before we left. That was this morning! We were very excited to try your food because you have wonderful reviews and we always support local small businesses. But your hostess was more concerned about grabbing her tips off the table and standing behind the register drinking her drink to care enough about us and bring us menus! She ignored us and you can’t say she didn’t know that we were not there since there isnt many tables and she told us to sit where we would like. Hard to order When you don’t get a menu. We actually would have come back and tried again because were very excited to try your food but after your response we will not return and will make sure everyone knows!
