**Total Rip off! This picture is what they call a male medium crab and charged $80 a dozen for… this is skimpy even for small crab standards!!**

I really wanted to like this place… but for the only two times I’ve been here for blue crabs, I ended up feeling bamboozled both times. Like a complete scam and waste of $.
I went here for the first time a couple of weeks back because I’ve been having a crabby craving lately and they’re right up the street from me with good reviews. I got a half dozen of small male crabs (it’s just me eating them). These were literally the smallest crabs I’ve ever gotten. The leg meat was so dry that I couldn’t even eat it. But the meat inside the crab itself was OK quality (small quantity, by far), except for 1 being gunky. And they did give 1-2 extra crabs – I’m assuming since it’s off season and they knew they were ripping you off?? Considering this was during off season, I said OK, let me try it once more a different day.
Well I was craving crab again a week later… Big Mike’s didn’t have any crab, so I go 20 min up the road to Anchor Down Crabs. Got medium males… these things were huge, delicious and juicy. Best I’ve had in ages…
Sadly, today, I didn’t feel like driving 20 min to Anchor Crabs and figured I wanted to give Big Mike’s one more time to redeem themselves. I get medium males this time – they charged me top dollar so I thought it had to be better than last time… at $80 a dozen… and these “medium” crabs were literally just as small and same mehhh quality as the skimpy smalls I got from them last time – only double the price. I should’ve just gotten smalls! I surely will not be coming here anymore. I will make sure to take that extra 20 min drive and pay way less for way better crab + way more crab. Wasn’t even worth the money. I really feel like I should get a refund, that’s how pissed I am. I know it’s off season, but if they’re skimpy small crabs, don’t sell em as over priced mediums! I’m fuming.

I was in Gettysburg and had a sudden craving for blue crab. Didn’t want to cross over into to Maryland so I found this place and the reviews looked good. It was only 20 minutes from the battlefield so I said, why not? I’m so glad I stopped by because the crab was some of the best I’ve had anywhere. They only had small but these small crabs were FAT and SO SWEET. They apparently don’t use Old Bay seasoning and use something called Jay O which to be honest tastes a lot like Old Bay, but the combination of the melted butter dipping sauce with the vinegar really brought the crab flavor out. Truly some of the sweetest and creamiest crab I’ve ever had the pleasure of eating. Took some crab cakes back to the hotel for the next day and they were awesome eaten cold, so I can only imagine that they would be even better warm. Key Lime pie for dessert was also top notch. When I rhetorically asked where the crabs were from they were honest about them being from Louisiana (those in the know understand that this time of year all the blue crab comes from Louisiana), which I greatly appreciated. The place is BYOB and the ambiance outside was cozy with the lighting and space heater. They also have indoor seating. This place is a gem and definitely worth the trip for the crabs alone. Eating such delicious crab got me in such a good mood that I even gave a crab to a little boy who was drooling while watching me eat and practically begged me for one.

Food was very good. Everything came out hot and surprisingly very fast. The entire staff was super friendly. Over all we’d definitely go again and would recommend to others

First time here as I’m not a seafood guy. I was so wrong for not coming sooner. The broasted chicken is great!

We had a small get-together on the back porch. Plenty of picnic tables. Three tables was good for us. Our waiter was great. Remembering everyone’s drinks and all.

We got boxes of chicken, hushpuppies, crab balks, and fries. I didn’t eat any crab balks but I was told they were great.

First time visiting Big Mikes Crab House and Grill with my wife and kids and I have to say even before the rest of the review I was already kind of partial to their cool name. When we first arrived inside the restaurant we were asked by the waitress if we would like to sit inside or out and we chose to sit outside since it was a nice day. Once at our table our waitress took our drink order and it was quick to come. Also I must mention that our drinks were cold and full of ice which you wouldn’t think would be a big deal but when you are used to going to restaurants where they treat ice like it is some kind of precious commodity its nice for a change. It was also nice that there were other choices on the menu especially since my son is not fond of most kind of seafoods. We ordered the loaded hush puppies for our appetizer and they were covered in crab meat and awesome. The crab cakes, scallops and steamed shrimp that my wife, daughter and I had were great and cooked just right. My son and I had the “broasted” chicken as well which was crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside and tasted superb. The waitress was great, she was polite and quick. I only wish I could remember her name because whenever I have good service I like to include the wait staff’s name in the review to give credit where it is due. Last but not least I visited the inside of the restaurant before leaving just to give some props to the guys cooking the food also which was well received by them both. Thanks Big Mike’s it’s hard to find good seafood when your not near the shore but you satisfied the craving. We will be back.

To start: I’m a huge seafood brat. Straight up. I dislike most of the seafood I’ve had in my state (MD), but this place is a gem! Came here with a friend for guy time and got the bucket…solid seafood. Sweet potato fries were a little on the greasy side though. Waitress was attentive, pleasant, and knowledgeable! Definitely recommend

My husband and I ate at Big Mike’s Crabhouse, Tuesday 29 May and were very pleased with our meal. I had 6 Oysters on the half shell, and the Softshell sandwich on a Brioche roll, my husband had the Salmon cake sandwich with coleslaw, both our meals were delicious, service was attentive, the atmosphere is that of unpretentious seafood house.

Staff were very friendly and fast after they realized we were seated by the hostess all the way back. Didn’t eat crabs but if look and smell are anything, they must be good. Stuffed shrimp were delectable, and fried asparagus are too die for. Crab cakes, crab soup and crab dip had very good flavor except we couldn’t find actual crab in them. Worth a visit.

I really enjoyed this place. All the food we had was great, even the kid’s meal grilled cheese was amazing. We loved the loaded hush puppies, and our dozen large crabs were very tasty and easy to crack/peel. The only minus I gave was that we didn’t realize it was BYOB – so I took off one star for that and the ambience (was a bit hot inside, but I think you almost have to expect that for a crab shack of any type). Anyhow, food and service was phenomenal (we are from Baltimore and Big Mike’s rivals many crab places there) and we will definitely go back again. But this time, we’ll be bringing our own beer…
