We went in for lunch and it was Very cold outside, so we were looking forward to going inside to warm up… Unfortunately, it was very cold in the restaurant… so cold that we left our coats on during the entire meal. We were hoping that there would’ve been more choices from the menu! Very limited and not really accommodating for everyone.
The staff was very friendly and our server did her best to accommodate us… The food on the other hand was where the problem really gets bad… Everything was WAY overcooked! My husband‘s chicken tenders We’re so overcooked that they were literally dry inside! My burger they didn’t ask me how I wanted it cooked and I didn’t really think anything about it at the time ( from now, on anywhere else I go I will specify how I want it cooked ) but when it came back to me, it was very well done and super dry! I asked for the special sauce to be put on the side, but there was no sauce on the side. They had already put it on the burger… ( I had already explained to the server that I had Gerd And I was not able to eat certain sauces if they were spicy) that was the reason I requested the sauce on the side…,l never said anything because the server was so nice and she was trying so hard… The worst part was my husband‘s chili… If you want to call it Chili… It was like a bowl of ground beef. There were no beans and hardly any flavor to it at all! It was so bad that my husband used his barbecue dipping sauce and threw it in the chili just to give it some moisture.. I don’t know if the cook was having a bad day or new or what was going on, but we will not be back.. It was very clean inside and like I said the server was very nice but as far as the food goes, it was probably the worst meal I’ve had since I’ve been on vacation. Very Disappointing!

We had a great experience at Big Bear Ellijay Bar & Grill! We called ahead on our way into town — it was a Saturday evening — and were pleasantly surprised to be able to make a reservation. We showed up a little early, walked right in, and were seated immediately with no wait.

The service was friendly, professional, and on point from the moment we walked in. Our food came out super fast, which was a nice bonus.

The blueberry margarita was absolutely heavenly — perfectly balanced and refreshing. We tried the wings, and they were crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and full of flavor. The Big Bear Salad was a standout with a great combination of fresh, bold flavors. The French onion soup was also delicious — rich, cheesy, and topped with perfectly crusty bread.

There was live music during our visit, which added a fun touch to the atmosphere without being too loud. Overall, it’s a great spot with excellent service, food, and vibes. We’ll definitely be back the next time we travel to Ellijay!

**apologies — I took pictures but not til after I dug into the amazing spread

I’m just not use to penne pasta with chicken parm or the butter herb like cream sauce on the noodles with marinara on my chicken. Also could benefit from more options on the menu, and maybe an online menu that matches your current menu. And don’t be afraid to crank the heat up a lil, not everyone drinks for warmth. Waitor was fabulous tho, Christian R. definitely deserves a raise.

Food was great, Owner is great and polite. Server lost our credit card and took an hour to find it. The staff was apologetic but seriously how does that happen?
When we were leaving we were berated by a drunk woman at a table. We were nothing but patient to the staff. This woman was about 8 glasses of wine deep at 1pm on a Saturday with a child at her table. Yelled every curse word at us as we left saying we didn’t thank the staff which was not correct. For this reason even though the food was great I will never return here. Shouting match with a drunk person is a first for me. Never again. I also hope that woman wakes up and stops acting like that in front of children because it was disgustiing.

First time visitors, and I must say, “what a hidden gem”! We live locally and never knew this restaurant was here in our little town until our son pointed out to us.
John was our server and he is an incredible server with the you the customer as his main focus. The food …… ahhhh the food was absolutely fantastic. We will be back for many visits for sure.

It was all about the service. The food was very good, I had the Reuben and my husband had the gyro, both were above average for sure but the bartender/server Melissa provided outstanding service, even handing us the remote for the TV to watch what we wanted. There was no live music when we were there so it was pleasantly quiet. The prices were very reasonable, we were very pleased with the bill which doesn’t happen very often, well done!

We randomly stopped here while on a road trip, and what a cute spot! The wings were absolutely delicious, and the espresso martini was probably the best I’ve ever had. Our waitress, Amalia, was incredibly sweet and attentive, and the hostess and all the other staff we interacted with were equally kind and welcoming. We’re so glad we got to stop, and we’ll definitely be back next time we visit Ellijay!

Taylor the bartender also served our party of 3. This is 4th time dining there, first review. Fabulous service: prompt, friendly, attentive. Food was good, as it has been each time. Prices are reasonable. Dirty blue cheese martinis were outstanding. Locally owned, which is a big plus. Wish they still got steaks from Oink & Moo, not Sysco…but it was fine. Meatloaf, fish ‘n Chips, veggies, all yummy. Parking is far easier than downtown. Many locals now regulars. I wouldn’t hesitate to send friends and family….and have. Enjoy.

Edited 2-23-25. New menu items, great. Sadly, still painfully uncomfortable chairs, which would be fine for a 30 minute quick lunch. If you want folks to stay, pay, and enjoy truly great food, invest in padding at a minimum. Maybe a drop ceiling and good ambient music. You have so much potential……I didn’t mention these small $, incremental changes before. But, it has been far too long.

We have really tried to give Big Bear the benefit of the doubt because we had an awesome experience here when we first moved to the area in May. We have been back a number of times over the summer and fall but each time we felt like the standards are slipping. Repeatedly we have tried to order drinks that are on tap or on the wine menu and they are unavailable. The menu seems to change every time we are there and typically they are out of something or other that we try to order. Today we arrived around 2pm for lunch and there were a couple people at the bar and one other table occupied. My husband ordered the Caesar wrap and I tried to order the black bear salad. The waitress came back and said they no longer make that salad, which was not on the lunch menu but she said they could make it as I knew it was usually other larger menu. So I ordered the chicken sandwich. After about 30 minutes a guy in a baseball cap and a plaid coat came out and told my husband he couldn’t get the wrap because the last wrap they had tore while they were making it. He offered to put it in a bowl and serve it that way! Husband opted for the big bear burger instead. 25 or so minutes later another guy came out with the chicken sandwich and a Philly cheese steak and took it to the other table. There was confusion at the table so they went back to the kitchen with both items. A little while later (I have lost track of time at this point) our waitress appears with the chicken sandwich and burger. Needless to say, the chicken was not hot at this point, but we had been there long enough so I didn’t complain and ate it. It should not have taken this long on a very slow afternoon to get the food.
We are very disappointed because we love to support local businesses and not chains. This place has a lot of potential but we have continued to see the service and food quality or availability of menu items slip.
Sorry to say we’ll be taking this off our list of local establishments to frequent.

Never been here before and not from elijay but my wife and I were passing through and stopped by for a quick dinner.

Started off strong with pretzel sticks and beer cheese. Cheese tasted great and pretzel sticks were hot, soft, and not overly salted. Really good honestly we both liked it.

I ordered the jambalaya and my wife got chicken tenders and fries(not pictured).

My jambalaya was basically soup it had so much water in it. Very very bland flavor. Honestly tasted like rice with water and sausage. 0 seasoning. And for $20 I expected better.

My wife’s chicken tenders were grilled and again had 0 seasoning. Fries were good but nothing crazy. Blandest most un seasoned tenders I’ve ever tasted.
