We had a Big A and a Crab platter, with an extra sausage and egg and a couple of drinks. Grand total including tip was roughly 90 bucks.
We left so stuffed we couldn’t eat any more. Here is our feedback on our meal.
Butter comes in the pan and not your typical cup for dipping. A seasoning is sprinkled over the food. At first I wasn’t sure if there was enough butter but it does slowly melt over the warm food for more than enough. Definitely had plenty of seasoning.
Crab Clusters – Weren’t the biggest but definitely not the smallest we’ve ever had. We did have a couple of cool areas in the cluster but the clusters were easy to get the meat out of and was not sticking to the shells.
Shrimp – Was very good, just a tad bit over cooked for my liking. Decent size as well.
Sausage – Was very good portion size, not overly seasoned which was fine because the butter and seasoning on the platters were great.
Egg – A perfectly cooked hard boiled egg; but was a cold egg. If i would have known it was going to be cold I would have asked to have it warmed up in the pot if possible.
Corn and Potatoes – The corn was a single standard side of corn that was cooked just right. Potatoes were plentiful. I am not typically a potato person but these were so good. Golden potatoes cooked perfectly with all the butter and seasoning.
Portion size you won’t find another crab place in the area close to the bang for your buck as Big Al’s. Not a real big place but bigger than it looks. Staff was super friendly and attentive to customer needs. We were focused on seafood and didn’t look at the sandwich menu.
Overall, we loved our experience and look forward to coming back.
Big Al’s in Nixa has a great crew and everyone there seems to love their jobs and has a wonderful attitude. They take excellent care of customers.
This small, unassuming place has a menu full of treats – varieties of sandwiches with delicious combos of meats and veggies. Menu has sandwich sizes labeled small ‘kids’, medium ‘mama’ and large ‘papa’. All subs come on some of the most delicious FRESH-BAKED bread that tastes incredible! We enjoyed a ‘mama’ Slammy & a ‘papa’ Gobbler. My family has had the Dirty Bird & cheese-steak and loved those. All the subs were fantastic, fresh-tasting, and came within 5 or so minutes of our order.
All the restaurant was clean as a whistle. All the staff was smiling, respectful and working hard. And all the food was wonderfully tasty. Big Al’s is outstanding for sandwiches, and I can’t wait to try their steak burgers next.
However, not a Philly cheese steak, not even close.
Prob a good idea to just change the name to hot corned beef sub or anything else. Misleading.
I’ll be back to try something else for sure.
Picked up a large Philly cheesesteak, for the first two bites it was decent. But upon the third bite I unfortunately discovered a toothpick as it hit my back gums and stabbed right in the roof of my mouth.
Before you ask, no this wasn’t the style of sandwich that has a toothpick normally going through it to hold it together. It was mixed deep inside the steak and onions.
I don’t know if it was from someone’s mouth, or elsewhere in the kitchen, but it immediately killed my appetite. Looks like my first visit here shall be my last as well.
