Bettola is a casual upscale restaurant located in Birmingham’s Pepper Place. Founded by award-winning chef James Lewis, Bettola offers a wonderful array of foods from the Campania region of Italy in a warm and modern setting. Here, we honor the farm-to-table tradition by using locally sourced meats and produce to bring fresh flavors to each dish. Customer favorites include our gnocchi, pollo pomodoro, and our charcuterie selections. Our signature Neapolitan pizzas start with dough made from scratch, using Caputo flour flown in from Italy, which is hand-tossed and wood-fired in our authentic brick oven from Naples. We also feature a variety of house-made pastas, roasts, and sautés, and we offer craft cocktails and wines.
Brick-front pizzeria featuring straight-up Italian fare & wood-fired Neopolitan pies.

Also, the wine price for the bottle of Montepulciano on the receipt doesn’t match what is quoted on the menu. Had to ask for an adjustment. Let this serve as a learning experience. No tip was left. Dined on 2/13/26.
It was a beautiful evening so we chose the patio. Music was light and atmosphere was inviting.
Staff was polite and attentive. We tried, the suggested, Mentone AL tomato salad to start. Served with thick, ripe red and yellow tomatoes along with some dressing and corn. It was light and savory. Had us wanting more. Excellent choice.
For dinner we chose the pepperoni and filetto pizzas. They serve a classic Neapolitan style wood fired pizza.
Pizza was a good personal size. Crisp crust with nice leopard spotting. Chewy inside with good gluten development.
Middle was a little soggy, but typical for Neapolitan style. Toppings were fresh and flavorful.
Chocolate Budino was light and fluffy with a hint of salt. The roasted hazelnuts gave it a nice crunch. The house made whipped creme was firm and smooth.
Excellent meal! No complaints. Highly recommend.
Birmingham and wasn’t able to move up our 8:30 reservation so we pivoted to takeout…. It was less than stellar . Two salads consisted of arugula with 2 pieces of radish each and not a spec of cheese on either. ($24). The bread was a lumpy cold mess but still tasted good. The shining star was the rigatoni , it was delicious ! Would have liked a sprinkle of parm on top . Didn’t know you have to request utensils and napkins , that ended up being an extra trip downstairs to request from hotel. It was $100 meal for 2 that left us feeling full but a little deflated .
We showed up on a windy Thursday evening without a reservation, but we were seated outside (our preference) right away. We got the burrata appetizer, which all enjoyed. The bread was wonderful. For entrees, we had two pizzas – the Margherita and Mascarpone e Prosciutto, and the Buccatini Carbonara. Everything was great, but the Carbonara was everyone’s favorite. That freshly made pasta was absolutely perfect and the flavors were decadent. The space is lovely and service was excellent. We’ll absolutely be back.
