Bettola’s mission is to reimagine what a local, neighborhood pizza parlor can be. And so we gave it some thought and we ripped apart the general expectations and started with a clean piece of paper. We asked ourselves, could we do it with first class ingredients and new, fresh ideas? What if the flour for our pizza dough was flown in from Naples, Italy? What if our ingredients were farm fresh? What if we offered 75% of the menu Gluten-free optional? What if we made different things that you couldn’t get elsewhere? What if? Well that soon turned into why not? And then we did. Welcome to Bettola.

Reviews
I think the owner should know what’s going on with their restaurant.
The place is cute, but can get a bit noisy and seating for larger parties might be tough during prime dinner time. Mainly street parking but there is a bank parking lot you can park in after bank hours but it’s a short walk.
– The Gold Digger on a gluten free crust slays. It’s so good we started eating it straight out of the box as we walked out the door, wearing that mustard bourbon BBQ sauce dripping from our lips
– Gluten free desserts (wha-wha!!??!?)
– Cherry Pecan salad was solid. Props for doing something a little different by using cherries instead of the usual cranberries
Losses
Nothing to lose. Would gladly order from Bettola again
While seated at the bar, I watched the bartender pull out a small, filthy fish tank from near the register. She mentioned the fish’s name was “Stephanie” and casually remarked that the tank was “looking pretty rough.” What happened next was truly shocking. I’ve never seen anything like it.
She went into the kitchen, grabbed a stainless steel strainer, and dumped the entire contents of the aquarium into it. She rinsed the rocks, media and decorations in the strainer. She also placed the empty aquarium directly into the same dishwasher used for customer glassware. After that, she wiped up the spilled dirty aquarium water with a rag and then used that same rag to wipe down the rest of the area behind bar. Not once did I see her using cleaning spray or dispose of the rag she used. She then returned the strainer to the kitchen. I felt compelled to document this because it was such a shocking/bizarre occurrence that would otherwise be VERY hard to believe.
I brought this to the manager, Ashley’s attention. I made it clear that I wasn’t trying to start problems but that it’s something that really needs to be addressed before somebody gets sick. After all, using a strainer that’s used for customers food shouldn’t be getting used for pets… Rather than taking my concern seriously, she responded with a smug attitude and claimed that the health department had approved of it last week. She insisted the dishwasher would “sanitize everything,” so it was “not a problem.”
Because of what I witnessed and how poorly management handled it, I cashed out and left. I initially intended on ordering food to go for my husband and I but at that point, I didn’t want to take any risks.
If this is how they handle cleanliness and food safety out in the open, I can only imagine what goes on behind the scenes. I would strongly think twice before dining here. Safety precautions exist for a reason, and they are not something to take lightly. People can get seriously ill, and it is incredibly disappointing to see them dismiss such concerns so easily.
This place has potential but what I saw today and how poorly the situation was handled is enough to make me never want to go back.
