We had a reservation for 9:00 PM but were not seated until 10:00 PM. We ordered appetizers at the beginning of the meal, but they never arrived. The soup that was supposed to be included with the meal was also not served. We also ordered vegetarian noodles, which were never brought to our table.
Additionally, we ordered drinks at the start of dinner, but they were not brought to us until after we had finished eating. This significantly impacted our overall dining experience.
My wife ordered the chicken and shrimp combination, expecting them to be prepared and served properly. Instead, everything was mixed into the rice and presented as one combined dish, which was not what was ordered.
I also specifically requested that my vegetable fried rice be prepared fresh on the grill, but it was instead brought out in a bowl, which was not what I had asked for.
Overall, the service was disorganized and below expectations. We left very disappointed and would not consider returning or recommending this restaurant to others.
If you know Benihana, you expect a little show: the shrimp toss, the onion volcano, the heart-shaped fried rice that “beats.” None of that happened this time. The chef just cooked and that was it. Also, if you’re sitting right in front of the grill, watch out—when they scrape it clean, little bits of char can fly your way.
The food was still good, but prices have gone way up. They charge extra for flavored butter, bottled water, and drinks are crazy expensive (a glass of wine costs about the same as a bottle). Entrées are easily $20 more than I remember.
Service wasn’t great either. Our waitress wasn’t very friendly—at one point she dropped a water glass on the table pretty hard. They also crammed in extra people at the table so it felt tight. We never got the salads that usually come before the chef starts cooking, and the espresso martini we ordered never showed up. When we asked about sushi rolls, the waitress didn’t seem to know much about that menu either.
Overall, the food was decent but the experience wasn’t. Between the missing Benihana “show,” poor service, and higher prices, it just wasn’t worth it. Probably won’t be coming back to this location.
We waited over an hour to be seated after calling ahead and being guaranteed a reservation for 8pm. We were finally seated at approximately 9:15 PM.
From 9:15 PM to 10:57 PM, we sat at the table with extremely limited interaction from staff.
We waited over an hour for lemonade and drinks from the bar. Several of the drinks were wrong on unpleasant.
We were seated at Table 16, separated by a partition from a corner table where several staff members were sitting.
While we understand staffing challenges, it was frustrating to see multiple staff members sitting behind the partition while our table waited for basic service, including water.
Throughout the evening, staff members, including busers, servers, and chefs, repeatedly peeked from behind the partition, watching our table without approaching us. This behavior felt uncomfortable and unprofessional and created an awkward dining atmosphere. It gave the impression they were waiting for us to leave since the restaurant closes at 11 PM.
The general manager visited once, stated he would ensure drinks were delivered, and did not return. Drinks were still delayed and not delivered properly.
Both managers, Rhonda and the general manager, communicated in a short, dismissive tone and did not demonstrate urgency or accountability.
The overall atmosphere, particularly the laughing, whispering, and repeated peeking from behind the partition, made the experience feel uncomfortable, unprofessional, and unwelcome rather than hospitable. Many of us work in industries where being short staffed is common. We understand operational challenges. However, basic hospitality, communication, and professionalism should still be maintained.
This ended up being a terrible birthday for the books. We will not be returning to Benihana!
My problem: our reservation was at 6:45. We did not get seated until 7:40. Our waitress was not told about our table. We did not have the privilege of meeting her until 8:10. We didn’t get our food ON THE FLAT TOP UNTIL 9:00pm. We were there to celebrate my friend’s birthday. I had gone up to the front to speak to a manager and yet, where was one to be seen? The manager’s team seemed to have been pulling their weight as much as they could despite the lack of staff yet he couldn’t walk around to our table to even apologize when our ONE friend got sushi and received the wrong meal. I literally requested a manager and no one came to our table. Truly, we should’ve gotten at least a drink comped. I’ve worked in restaurants since I was 16 and I’ve had entire checks comped over this. I personally will never be returning but not due to the staff, but the lack of leadership that this establishment has. I hope the manager’s pillow is warm on both sides tonight, because honey ya should’ve done better.
The food is very well seasoned and it’s just a treat to see the performance the chef gives cooking for you right at the table. Cannot say enough good things about the staff and the manager was wonderful greeting all the tables.
Our reservation was at 6:00, and although we arrived 10 minutes early, we were told our table was not ready. By 6:30, after waiting 40 minutes, we asked for an update and were told our server had not arrived yet and we would need to wait even longer. There was no apology or acknowledgement of the delay. When I asked how much longer, I was told another 30 minutes.
We were celebrating my 15-year-old daughter’s birthday, so we chose to stay. We asked if we could at least order appetizers at the bar because everyone was very hungry, but the hostess refused, even when we offered to split up. After more back-and-forth, she suddenly said our table would be ready soon.
We were finally seated at 6:40. No one apologized for the wait. Our server was pleasant, but made multiple mistakes with the order and apparently was never told it was my daughter’s birthday, even though I mentioned it and noted it on the reservation.
At the end of the meal, another server offered ice cream to go instead of dessert at the table, despite our 6-course meal and birthday celebration. She then brought the birthday dessert, dropped it on the floor behind my daughter, and splattered whipped cream on her clothing. Although a replacement dessert was brought and a birthday song followed, no one cleaned the floor or noticed the mess on her jacket.
We then waited another 20 minutes for the check while our server ignored us. Only after I went to find someone did we get help, and the manager appeared very late in the process.
We spent nearly $90 per person. That is the kind of price I would expect to pay for excellent food and impeccable service, not for an experience this disorganized and disappointing.
