We had reservations for three people at 7 o’clock. We got our drinks at 7:34. We didn’t get any food until an hour later and then we left at 8:56 PM even though our dinner was a bit on the later evening side I feel like if I’m being paid to get the experience of the show, it would be expected. I also hear really low comments being made from our server when I was given two miso soups and a salad (which I stated I didn’t want) something under her breath in regards to her taking it back.
The food itself was okay, but not great. It had way too much butter, some of the meat didn’t seem cooked properly, and the shrimp ended up a bit rubbery. The portions also felt really small for the price. Altogether, it just wasn’t what I expected from Benihana, especially for a celebration. I left feeling disappointed instead of excited to come back.
The state of the restaurant is appalling. It is visibly dirty and looks completely mismanaged. Most concerning was the grease and steam residue dripping from the overhead hood directly onto our clean plates before the chef even was at the table. This is stomach-turning sight when you are paying for a premium dining experience. Throughout this entire ordeal, not a single manager was visible on the floor to address the filth or the staggering delays.
The only reason this isn’t a one-star review is our chef, Alvaro. He was an absolute professional and the only bright spot in a dismal evening. He was incredibly diligent with a shellfish allergy at our table and perfectly handled a picky eater’s request for food separation. He was attentive, skilled, and accommodating—it is a shame such a talented chef is working in a facility that is this poorly maintained and neglected.
Summary: Between the lack of management and the unsanitary conditions (dripping grease), this location is a disaster. Alvaro is a 5-star chef in a 0-star building.
I had the best food and experience at the Teppan table. The chef Austin was very engaging and prepared food very well to each and everyone’s liking. We had an empty plate when we left. The service was excellent and all the staff were very courteous.
By the time we left we were more than satisfied with everything.
The 4 stars for the wait even though we had reservations. This means the reservation system need to be optimized. If the restaurant reads this so they can make changes.
