I have been a Beef-a-Roo loyalist for over 10 years. We had a good run—a decade of solid fries and reliable sandwiches. But over the last year, this relationship has turned into a toxic breakup I didn’t ask for. This specific location has managed to botch my order 3 out of the last 4 times, but their most recent performance belongs in the Hall of Fame for Petty Management.
After driving all the way home, I realized my entire order was—once again—a work of pure imagination on their part. I called, and they told me the classic line: “Just give us your name, we’ll put it in the book, and we’ll make it right next time.” The Plot Twist: I go back to claim my “make-good” for a $5.55 Roast Beef Meal. I wasn’t asking for a steak dinner—just the meal I already paid for and never got to eat. The staff looks at me like I’m asking for a kidney. After a huddle that felt longer than a playoff game, they informed me there was an “issue.” They would give me the roast beef sandwich… but the fries and the drink were off the table. I’m not even mad; I’m genuinely impressed. Imagine being a business so committed to “the hustle” that you’re willing to alienate a 10-year customer over three cents’ worth of syrup water and a handful of potatoes. They messed up my night, forced me to find a “Plan B” dinner, and made me drive back twice—all to draw a hard line in the sand over a value meal side dish.
It’s hilarious, really. Most places try to keep their customers; this place treats a $5.55 refund like a high-stakes corporate merger. If you enjoy being gaslit over a fountain soda, this is your spot.

Peru is a childhood favorite of mine so anytime I come back to Rockford when I’m on vacation that’s our first stop. My family is going to love it as well so it’s cool to pass it down to my kids and have them enjoy it as well. the five dollar meals they’re doing right now are such a phenomenal deal. Service is always good in the food is always delicious.

Went in with CHICAGO style beef in mind .. no guardiniera… No Italian sausage to make it a combination.. no hotdogs at a fast food spot should have told me enoug. On the flip side fries were good, onion rings were good. Beef was meh…. Oh and price was decent.

Great local place that originated in Rockford Illinois. Has a variety of sandwiches roast beef cheesy beef and plenty of different types of hamburgers. As a bonus they have cheese curds onion rings fries and shakes.
Really friendly wait staff and plenty of seating.
Had the bacon cheeseburger which was a very solid burger. Better than your standard counter-serve restaurants. Good seasoning and an excellent amount of toppings.
Also the roast beef sandwich was excellent too for a fast food establishment.
I would definitely visit them again when I am in the area to try out some other menu items. It is not a surprise how they are slowly growing their locations. Great business.

The wrapper on my sandwich reeked! When I called I was told they were aware of it and next time I could ask for a box. How do you know to ask for a box prior to getting a sandwich wrapped in foul smelling paper? Very poor public relations to be aware of a nasty problem and just hope no one complains.

Love the food but dont enjoy sticking my hand in the bag and there is cheese sauce all over the top of bag . Do better service . You could’ve just gave me a new bag cause I know you knew it was all over. Took a pic too .

I really used to love and respect what used to be a small family owned chain. Each time I have placed an order since they began franchising, I have been disappointed in my food and the service. Locally, Beef a Roo was beloved for their unique menu and truly superior quality food and service. Now it has been stripped of any trace of either of those things.

In my most recent visit, the drive through attendant either could not hear me through the crackling speaker or she was not listening. My guess is the latter as I had to repeat what I asked for multiple times.

My fries were stale and poorly salted. Imagine! A place that was FAMOUS for that salt- people used to steal the shakers off the tables- had fries devoid of all flavor or freshness. My chicken wrap was dinky and falling apart with chicken that had obviously been sitting under a heat lamp for ages. The shake I ordered was pathetic. Hardly any syrup was added and god forbid they actually mix it! What little flavoring was added was stuck at the bottom of the cup.

I genuinely used to recommend Beef A Roo to folks from out of town, but never again. I used to look forward to treating myself to Beef A Roo even if it cost a little more than their competitors, but not anymore. I would even speak to how great of an employer they were having worked their for six years through highschool and college, but not anymore.

It is sad to see how much Beef A Roo has changed for the worse over the years. And I get it, running a food chain is hard. But to me, they way they are running things now is so poor compared to what the brand used to be.

Late last night and the night before, The WITCH with the turned-up eyebrows decided to try some food from this Beefaroo. One the first night The WITCH with the turned-up eyebrows ordered the turkey and bacon club and a broccoli cheddar baked potato. The WITCH with the turned-up eyebrows was slightly annoyed that The WITCH with the turned-up eyebrows could not understand the lady on the other end of the ordering system. The lady seemed a bit impatient with The WITCH’S with the turned-up eyebrows trying to make sure that the order was correct. Once things settled down, The WITCH with the turned-up eyebrows proceeded to window number two and obtained the order.

The WITCH with the turned-up eyebrows was very pleased with the food. It was, indeed, the best turkey club The WITCH with the turned-up eyebrows had ever had. The broccoli cheddar baked potato was very good. The WITCH with the turned-up eyebrows decided to go back the next night and order the same thing all over again because it was so good.

On the second night The WITCH with the turned up eyebrows was very pleased that the staff was much more relaxed about The WITCH with the turned-up eyebrows order.

Overall The WITCH with the turned-up eyebrows gives Beefaroo on Alpine four eyebrow waggles out of five. Recommended.

A Rockford tradition that I MUST visit anytime in in Rockford!!! The fries are a local requirement! Go see for yourself. Even though they sell the seasoning, you CAN NOT recreate the amazing flavor with their fries! Pets are not welcome (of course not, it’s a restaurant that follows health codes) so I go to the drive trough with my pup @therealruramos and she loves it!!!

Beef-a-roo has gone downhill since they were bought out and no longer locally owned. Quality is terrible, prices are outrageous, and the old atmosphere is nonexistent. You’re better off going to Culver’s or Portillos, or better yet one of the many local restaurants that haven’t sold out!
