An exotic neighborhood escape, Beatnik offers Mediterranean cuisine, tropical cocktails, and global music in Chicago’s Loop. Named after the bohemian freethinkers of the 1950s and ’60s, Beatnik On The River channels the beatnik generation’s sense of style, aspiration and rebellion to create an exotic escape with maximalist interiors and lush gardens. Mirroring our design-through-storytelling whimsy, Beatnik’s culinary team takes guests on a globetrotting journey that starts in the Eastern Mediterranean, moves westward across Northern Africa and finishes across the Atlantic with the flavors of Mexico. Beatnik’s beverage team makes tropical cocktails that are savory and fresh, with inventive recipes that follow a no-waste sensibility.
Creative global eats and tropical cocktails, served in a funky-ornate setting with riverfront seats.

Beatnik On The River is absolutely stunning — from the moment you walk in, you feel like you’ve stepped into a dreamy, bohemian oasis right on the water. The atmosphere is unforgettable: beautiful décor, gorgeous river views, and the perfect mix of music and energy.
The food is incredible! Every dish is packed with flavor and creativity. The Mediterranean and Middle Eastern influences shine through in the best way. The cocktails are just as impressive — unique, refreshing, and beautifully presented.
Service is warm, attentive, and professional. The staff makes you feel welcomed and taken care of from start to finish.
The service didn’t really improve from there. Our server made a strange comment that people usually just order one salad and have business meetings here. No menu guidance, no recommendations. When I said we were ready to order and asked if he was ready to write it down, he said he’d remember everything. He didn’t. He had to come back and ask again.
The food was mixed. The lamb and halloumi were genuinely delicious, but the salad and hummus were pretty underwhelming and not very flavorful.
On a positive note, the ambiance is beautiful and the river view is great. Unfortunately, between the off-putting service and mediocre food, it didn’t live up to the hype or the price point.
Fantastic experience, food was extraordinary, lentil soup take me back to my childhood, hummus was very freash as the pita bread. Burger also was great, it just missed the fries which in no included, my husband loved the gyros! Is not like any others, this is pure shoulder lamb full of delicious fat and meat, no mixed. Cake was great and tasty as well, my only complaint is, even the service was great, I feel a bit rushed out and the end, even thy were dead.like very slow, anyway I really love the vibe, food, service.
When our table was ready, we were seated downstairs by the river. The views were beautiful, and the setting was lovely, but the service didn’t match what we experienced upstairs. Our server wasn’t very friendly and wearing sunglasses indoors felt odd. When we tried to order the same drinks we had upstairs, he told us they weren’t available. We asked if they could just bring them down, but got no real response. Later, after we had already ordered something else, those same drinks showed up from upstairs, which was confusing and frustrating.
The food was just okay—not terrible, but nothing that stood out. Most of us ordered different dishes and agreed it was average at best. I had wanted a steak, but was told I could only get it cooked medium rare, which I’d never heard of before. I ended up choosing a different cut that was more like a stew-style steak—not what I had in mind, and I didn’t finish it. On top of that, the music was way too loud, which made it hard to have a normal conversation at the table.
Overall, this place has a nice atmosphere and amazing staff upstairs (huge shoutout to Abby), but the food, service downstairs, and noise level left a lot to be desired.
