Bear & Dragon Cafe was a really nice spot for dinner—the new pub menu is solid, and the cozy cottage vibe makes it feel welcoming right away. No reservations needed, which was perfect for just dropping in.

We kicked things off with drinks: my wife had the Dickens Night Cap cocktail (pretty coupe glass, nice frothy top with warm spices—she really enjoyed it), and I started with a Guinness that our server kindly offered on the house as it was an accidental poor, which I was happy to take advantage.

My wife went with the Fish and Chips—crispy beer-battered rockfish, thick-cut fries, fresh lemon, and creamy tartar sauce. She said it was spot-on classic pub fare, flaky and satisfying. Definitely not the best she had had, but probably her favorite in the Prescott area.

I had the Steak Frites—juicy grilled steak slices with good fries and the sauces (chimichurri was a bit too vinegary for my taste, but the overall dish was tasty and the portions were generous).

We finished with the Turtle Cheesecake—creamy layers, caramel, pecans, and whipped cream. Rich, not overly sweet, and a great way to wrap up.

Our server was friendly and attentive. The cocktail took a little longer since there’s no dedicated bartender, but it wasn’t a hassle. Everything else came out hot and well done.

Overall, a really enjoyable meal in a charming place. The new menu works well, and we’ll definitely plan to come back!

I do not say this lightly, but this is one of the top breakfasts I have ever had.

The French Omelette was absolutely outstanding and paired perfectly with the hashbrowns. By far one of the, if not the best omelette I’ve ever had. The execution was flawless, and the flavors and textures hit just right.

But the food is only part of what makes this place special. The overall aesthetic of the restaurant is amazing with their library style setup and the J.R. Tolkien quotes on the menu. Chef’s kiss for the ambiance alone.

The staff were amazing. Personable, attentive, and clearly passionate about what they do. Me and my family literally felt like we were eating somewhere out of a fantasy. It’s rare to find a restaurant where everything comes together so perfectly.

Absolute top recommendation if coming to Prescott. Don’t skip it.

This is a very unique and interesting restaurant. We all had the Steinbecks breakfast. It was very tasty. There are many books on shelves, kinda like eating in a library. The staff was a very pleasant breakfast spot. It was quite busy, a short wait but worth the experience.

Dinner with my family was good- I tried and enjoyed the Pit Pub Burger. In my opinion, it would be better if lettuce & tomato were included for no extra charge. The portions that we were served filled us up. I would recommend this place to people with an interest in literature and classical topics.

I rarely give a restaurant 5 stars solely because my husband and I are into home cooking, gardening, farmers market, organic/non-gmo foods (both vegetables and meats)… so having the happy surprise and complete satisfaction is rare! Service was also equally satisfactory to the food adds extra points, and a wonderful cozy and warm atmosphere. Will be back for plenty more!

Came across the Bear and Dragon after a night out in Prescott – what an absolutely amazing place for breakfast. Great food, great service and the owners have an awesome back story. As a Brit I can happily say the English breakfast is on point, as is the rest of the food. Veteran Marine owned – Per Mare, Per Terram.

I got the chicken pot pie, which sounds plain and boring, but is was the best chicken pot pie I’ve ever had. The crust was light and fluffy and the filling was full of flavor. My wife had the shrimp gnocchi which was equally delicious. The presentation was beautiful and the seasoning was perfect.

Great small restaurant with excellent food, great service. Interior of the location resembles an early 20th century library or an older English pub.
Seating is limited and they don’t take reservations. We were there on a weekday at approx 4:30 PM were seated immediately. Very diverse menu.
If you are looking for an i teresting and unusual di ing experience, try the Bear & Dragon.

We’ve been going to The Bear and Dragon for years, all the way back to when they were serving out of a trailer by the courthouse. This time we booked a 4 PM reservation since it was the only spot available. It was a quick 5-minute walk from our hotel on Whiskey Row, though the restaurant also has plenty of parking if you’re driving.

We started with wine, cocktails, and the Caesar salad. I was a little skeptical at first because it had black olives, but it turned out to be delicious. My wife ordered the pot pie, and I went with the steak frites. My dish was outstanding, and while hers was flavorful, the rosemary came through a little strong by the end. Still very good overall.

We wrapped up with the strawberry shortcake, which was OUTSTANDING! Service was excellent throughout the evening-our server gave thoughtful recommendations and really elevated the experience.

Highly recommend this spot whether you’re looking for breakfast, coffee, or a great dinner in Prescott!

We visited Bear and Dragon first for breakfast. They were busy and down a server and cook I believe. After waiting for over 30 minutes to be seated we left because we had to be somewhere and wouldn’t have had time to wait longer and the extra wait for food to come out being down a cook. We decided to come back for dinner to celebrate my book loving daughter getting her license. The decor was really great, well thought through and executed. The space is really tight. When we came back for dinner with 5 members of our family of 6 there was no seating. We were unaware that reservations are recommended I would say especially for a larger family. There are not a lot of tables to accommodate a large family. We got a very small table outside on the patio which was not my first pick (I don’t love cramped tables and eating with dogs that shed (just my preference)) but to sit inside would have been at least another hour in a half. That said, the staff was very friendly and would leave us a pitcher of water so we could keep our glasses full, and they have wonderful big umbrellas to help block the hot sun.
The food was good. Most of their dishes are UK inspired and I love that. We got the cottage pie that came out straight from the oven. Needed some salt and pepper , our preference, but was good. Bangers and mash-the mashed potatoes were amazing. The bangers were wonderful and perfectly cooked. The shrimp and grits were creamy and the shrimp was very flavorful and great. The poulet frit was really nice. The chicken was wonderful.
I would have loved to sit inside and would have liked to try breakfast so we may have to come back again for that. The check came in a book which was cool, keeping with the theme. The menu was also book themed and changes, it seems, quarterly or so. The parking lot is tight and for dinner there are no spaces left. People do park on the street as well. Overall, we had a pleasant experience at Bear and Dragon and loved the esthetics of the place.
