The blackberry cobbler was the star of the show and they served a lot of it…as a side! The mac n cheese was baked, rich, and hearty. The pork was best with sauce, which was in a giant bottle on the table. There was some neat decor but it is a little odd dining in a gas station. Don’t let that stop you or you’ll miss out on some fabulous food.

One of many popular BBQ joints in Alabama that’s been on my short list for a visit. I stopped on a drive back north and was glad they were open on a Sunday morning. I wasn’t going to make the same mistake twice and decided not to hold back on my order. This may be my last chance at real BBQ for awhile. Located in a gas station just off of I-65, I could see and smell the smoke after parking. It was late morning when I arrived and no line. I ordered the 4 rib plate with mac n cheese and peach cobbler, plus 2 pulled pork and a sausage sandwich for the road. I took my haul outside and ate at one of several picnic tables they have scattered outside. The ribs were tender and slightly smokey, and I enjoyed how the BBQ sauce didn’t really add any flavor of its own, but somehow enhanced the flavor of the BBQ. Not just on the ribs, but the sandwiches as well. The Mac was good, but the peach cobbler was a little disappointing. The flavor was on point, but I got way more cobbler than peach. The sandwiches were equally as good as the ribs, a little more smokey though. The sausage was good, but wanted more than what was on the sandwich. Not an issue with the pulled pork that was also delicious. You might what to get extra pickles, plus neither had cole slaw. Woofed them all down on my long drive back to Michigan. They packed my togo order with plenty of BBQ sauce, napkins and utensils. They also have indoor seating, plus gas station convenience items. Bonus I filled up on their cheap gas and I appreciated their lot being big enough to park a 10ft truck and a 8ft trailer and not have to embarrass myself backing up.

Let’s start with the strengths. The food here is fantastic, and it is a great location on I-65. However, at lunch time today they were out of several items. There were no paper products available- no paper towels, no toilet paper, etc. It was cash only, and there is no ATM. The food is great. The experience was not.

I used to LOVE this place!! Best restaurant in town by FAR!! But the previous owner sold it to someone new and they are going to eventually tank the business. They went from having these big amazing smoked wings to 3 bullshit full wings that had no meat and then it got even worse!! They got even more greedy and went down to 4 itty bitty tiny baby chicken wings!! To make matters worse, THEY WERE COOKED IN A DEEP FRYER VERSES SMOKED ON THE GRILL!?!? Makes sense because they are so small they would dry out on the grill QUICK!! The baked beans were different and very bland and the Mac and Cheese isn’t the same either. It’s really bland as well. They went from being a 10 in book to maybe a 2! I’m not alone as the guys sitting at the table behind me were going on and on about how disappointed they were about the wings!! Well it was good while it lasted and I’m going to miss it for sure but those days are over. It’s nothing more than a gas station restaurant that is way overpriced. When they cut the portions and the quality, they should have drastically cut the price too! It’s always been an expensive restaurant but it was always worth it. You could eat it for lunch and have enough left over to fill you up for dinner. I took a picture of the wings so you can see what your almost $19 plate will get you. What a shame…

With the many choices of bbq in and around Alabama, this is place was average. The meats and sausage didn’t have much smoke flavor on them. The sides were good though especially the hash brown casserole. It s a good option if you are on 65, south of Montgomery but its nothing to take a road trip for. The place was cute too.

The outside welcomes you with a rustic southern, relaxing charm. While walking to the door, I noticed people sitting in their cars devouring their takeout BBQ. Upon opening the door, the aroma of fresh BBQ inhabits your nose, causing your mouth to salivate. The wait is quick. Generous portions for the price. Bathrooms are exceptionally clean. Great way to end a beach trip. Don’t forget the dessert!

BBQ 65 is in the Shell Station @ 65 & Pine Apple. The smoker is on the back side. The smoke in the air is always great when they are burning wood. I prefer the Smoked Turkey. I buy it by the pound and share it with friends. Their hours are limited so check them.

Food was really good. Barbecue pork sandwich was the best I’ve had in a long time – lean inside meat, generous amount of smoked meat with sauce on the side .

Been here twice before but this is solely based on today’s visit (17 Oct 25). We missed the BBQ as they closed at 3pm and we arrived around 3.20pm. Luckily there were some pulled pork sandwiches in the counter top warmer of the shop side in the fuel station. It was $7.25 for a small pork sandwich which was a little pricey but they were nice! Hopefully next time we pass by this way, we can catch them before they close

Excellent food!!! Pork was so tender & flavorful. Coleslaw had a great tang, not overly sweet. Mac & cheese was awesome. Husband loved his cobbler!!
