The growing popularity of Korean fried chicken reflects a greater familiarity with Korean culture.
Celebrated for its crispy exterior and tender interior, Korean fried chicken has been a staple late-night snack in South Korea since the late 1970s and early ’80s. It’s typically known as “drinking food,” or anju, though Koreans also enjoy the crispy pieces of meat with non-alcoholic drinks.
The dish is most often made with bone-in chicken thighs or wings that have been coated in a cornstarch mixture. Traditionally, the chicken is fried twice to take it to the next level of crunchiness.
Located on a busy Stuyvesant Avenue in Union, I decided on bb.q Chicken for lunch. The acronym “bb.q” in their name stands for “Best of the Best Quality,” focusing on high-quality ingredients.
Upon arrival as a first-timer at this modern, well-lit, clean establishment with Korean music playing throughout, I was greeted by the staff.
Their menu features fried chicken, rice bowls, and Ddeok-Bokki. I decided on the Honey Garlic Wings brushed in a savory sauce with a mild tang of garlic and Chicken Fried Rice with vegetables in a classic kimchi base.
The wings were prepared fresh (~20 mins prep time). The taste was deliciously amazing and addicting with a perfect balance of crispy and juicy with the right amount of spices. The complimentary pickled radish that came with the meal had a good balance.
All was prepared for takeout even if one was dining there. Portions were healthy, and the price was comparable to the area. The staff is attentive and polite.
Thank you for reminding me what real good fried chicken looks and tastes like.

Annoyed that my Filipino place across the street was closed when it wasn’t supposed to be, I came here instead. I got the spicy calby chicken, kimchi fried rice, and a peach lychee drink. That fried rice was everything ! ! I don’t typically like sauce on my chicken too much, but this chicken was perfectly fried and the sauce definitely added something special. Can’t wait to stop by again ! !

Been meaning to stop by since they opened and Im happy the wait was worth it. At first glance you’d think the chicken is heavy because the crust is thicker than most Korean Fried chicken I’ve had. It is still light and crispy (although it steamed in the bag after 45 minutes in traffic). I agree with other comments of the sauces being sweet but they are good. Oh and the wings of fire are not for ppl with high blood pressure. Lol. I also had the chicken fried rice and appreciate the fact that they used chicken thighs and not breast. It is so good and not greasy at all! Ill be back soon to try other flavors and dishes.

Today was my first time at this restaurant. Can I just say this is the best wings I’ve had in a long time. Very juicy, perfect amount of crispy and so flavorful, cooked to perfection. I had the honey garlic with sweet potato fries and it was very good!.. also the radish!! Omg the radish!!! I want a whole jar of it. Having it paired with the wings was delicious

So glad they opened up a bb.q here. Owner is great we went before they even opened the restaurant to the public and let us try their offerings. Extremely delicious juicy flavorful. Can’t wait to try the other flavors they have. This time, we just had the cheese version. Soy garlic and hot spicy. I asked if they’ll offer the cheese wrapping chicken they have in the Asian market. he said he’ll bring it up with corporate. Oh and also just fyi they only offer 2 flavor choices on the medium wings. Hopefully soon they allow us to get different flavors on large wings. The restaurant was super clean and looks great. Parking can be an issue so just be aware. Oh and order ahead so it’ll be ready with you want to eat there or for pickup .

bb.q Chicken is one of my favorite restaurants and have been to quite a few locations. This is my third time ordering from this location and the quality is just as good as the other locations. Today I ordered the Secret Sauce Whole Chicken and a Kimchi Fried Rice (ate the egg before the photo ) and everything was delicious. Happy to have a location close to home, I’ll definitely keep stopping by.

We had bb.q chicken for the first time last night at their soft opening and we loved it! We got the golden original wings and the soy garlic wings. Both were so delicious and the chicken was super crispy. We will definitely be back to try more!
