The bb.q in our name stands for Best of the Best Quality, and that’s exactly what you can expect from every one of our restaurants. Our Korean fried chicken is crispier, juicier, and more tender than anything you’ve tasted before, and our sauces provide an eclectic mix of flavor. Every dish is the result of both longstanding Korean tradition and modern research and development from our very own Chicken University. It’s a tremendous amount of work, but it’s all worth it when you take that first bite.

We were sat pretty quickly and it was decently busy with a few karaoke rooms booked and a few other tables with groups that were wrapping up their meals, but plenty of staff to take care of everyone. When we pressed the button to order, a girl came over and I was tasked with ordering. She asked us before we even ordered if we wanted to run the bill together or separately, in which I asked her if she could split it 6 ways, and she said yes. We ordered (corn cheese, 5 steamed rice, half and half whole chicken in hot spicy & golden original, tteokkbokki, yogurt soju). She read our order back to us and misheard me on the rice and had said 5 fries. We corrected her and she repeated the order back to us correctly, with rice instead of fries. No biggie. However, she then asked if it was going to be paid together or separate AGAIN. I reminded her again: even split between 6 people. She then told us that because of the way we ordered, she would have to put everything on one tab and then assign it individually to us evenly 6 ways at the end. Did she just fr mansplain to us how a split works?? Ok, fine whatever. Weird but moving on.
Corn cheese came out first. Look at the images and tell me everything that looks RIGHT about it. Super yellow with cheddar cheese, WATERY like it was straight from a can without straining, PEAS AND CARROTS, and for some reason SPICY. My friends and I frequent pocha, kbbq chicken spots, and asian eateries often so we were so thrown aback.
Moving onto the tteokkbokki. Tteokkbokki is $14.99 and every time I’ve been to a bbq chicken spot (and other chains for korean fried chicken), it’s always a huge dish that can feed up to 4-6 people as a side around the same price. So why is this one barely the size of my hand? They even asked us if we wanted cheese for 2.50 (we declined), and I was genuinely appalled by the price for the size. IN ADDITION – our server spilled a shot of soju as she set it down for us, but the plate isn’t even large? There was plenty of room on the table.
What really ticked us off was when we for whatever reason, received 2 fries. We tried to send it back because we didn’t think it was for our table, but they insisted it was ours. We were confused and corrected them saying we ordered 5 steamed rice. THEY were confused and said we asked for 5 fries? WE MADE THIS CORRECTION EARLIER. The girl who took our order even repeated our order back to us correctly!! Even crazier – they comped us for only one of the fries that they had put down our table, and that was the only comped item. They took away the other set of fries.
Chicken itself was fine, but we ate it without the rice we ordered. We had to remind them about the rice twice and they finally delivered it when we were about 75% done with the chicken. The rice came out in paper boats and was stale, clumpy, and dry. Kind of like Uncle Ben’s microwaveable rice. I could even see the bottom parts of some of the clumping where it had gone stale, burnt, and fused together. Again – APPALLED. Maybe you should warn your customers that the rice isn’t fresh or unavailable so they can make an informed decision instead of skirting around it and not telling us that it isn’t available.
Lastly, as they were delivering us the rice, they also took our waters since we needed a refill. But they NEVER CAME BACK with it. We were eating some spicy chicken so we would’ve liked some water. Luckily our group can handle spice, but we still would’ve liked something cold.
Overall, terrible experience and extremely disappointed.
I had a fantastic experience at bb.q Chicken Richardson!
From the moment we walked in, the staff was very attentive, friendly, and made us feel welcome. They checked on us regularly, answered our questions about the menu, and made great recommendations.
The food was absolutely amazing crispy, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. Every item we tried was fresh and packed with flavor, and you can really tell they focus on quality.
