We drove into Port Lavaca looking for good, fresh seafood and Bayside did not disappoint. We had the jumbo fried shrimp with baked potatoes and calamari for our appetizer.
The calamari was fresh cut and hand breaded. The shrimp with jumbo and freshly cooked. The breading wasn’t heavy, and it was very flavorful. The size was perfect. You had the choice of 6 shrimp all the way up to 20.
We are so glad we stopped in, this was some of the best shrimp we’ve had in a long time and it was worth the drive over from Bay City.

My experience at this restaurant started with high expectations but quickly diminished with the attitudes of the staff members and the perceived owner. Apparently there are not substitutions allowed. And don’t even try to get the grilled oysters as an add-on. I ended up ordering a plate of them simply to try them and for the sake of this review. I would have been much better with a side or add on as they were underwhelming. They were quite bland. Each plate came with dirty rice and a seasonal vegetable. The dirty rice may have been a little dry but had a nice flavor. Most of the vegetable was broccoli. I will say the redfish was cooked perfectly as were the shrimp that came along with it. Moving on to the actual pricing of meal. I feel the pricing was quite expensive for the area compared to other restaurants of similar quality and cuisine. Especially since despite the name it is not on the water nor is there a view thereof. All of that said I don’t think I personally will return. However to be fair my score is reflective of all conditions.

Fish was a bit mushy but prepared well. Rice was bland. Hushpuppies and shrimp were good.

We were looking for some fresh gulf shrimp and they had some that were good. Not going to be the best buy they were good.

We ate lunch here today and ordered the grilled chicken, and 2 combo. Chicken was very tuff and dry but the fried shrimp was good. Catfish was not so good, very mushy texture.
Best part was when the waitress brought out our food she gave us someone else’s plate BUT did not notice until the other table pointed it out. At this point I had started eating the fries and touched the catfish. Waitress came back to the table stated to wait, wait, wait (her words)and grabbed the plate, when doing so I told her I touched the food and starting eating off of the plate. She took the food to the other table and swapped the dishes. Very gross. This is the first time we have every experienced this and we felt bad the other party was eating it, cause I would not have. Needless to say, this was our first and last time we will be dining at this restaurant.

The beer is expensive, and the cashier was quite rude. If you’re in Port Lavaca, it’s best to avoid this place. They also add a non-cash sale fee for credit card or debit card payments.

Very enjoyable dinner. I ordered the fried catfish and it came in a very light batter so did not cover the taste of the fish itself. I ordered gumbo to go for a later meal and it was just as tasty as I expected from eating the catfish. Service was great and friendly. I was able to park my truck towing a small camper in their lot.

We ate here on a recommendation from someone who grew up in Port Lavaca. They were right. Really good seafood. The place looked closed when we got there, but we walked in and were promptly seated. Our server was very friendly and informative about the menu. We really enjoyed our food, and the price was on par with other seafood restaurants. If we’re ever in the area again we will definitely eat here again.

The family stopped here on our way to Houston and we really enjoyed the service and food. Our server was very kind and friendly but I didn’t get his name. He made our visit so much better. He is definitely an asset to this restaurant and I highly recommend this restaurant for their delicious seafood as well. I am including photos of their menu to see all the food they serve.
By the way, they are OPEN for Dine In.

I was encouraged by the number of cars in the parking lot at almost 2 p.m. The waitress was not very welcoming and seemed to have very little English. Her service was perfunctory and not attentive at all. My wife and I were interested in the grilled fish offerings and she had sea bass and shrimp. I had the seafood plate with grilled catfish, shrimp, scallops, and oysters. The food arrived hot and appeared generous. Went downhill from there. While my catfish was some of the best I have ever had, my wife’s sea bass was dry. The dirty fried rice was bland. The grilled vegetables (zucchini, broccoli and onion) was not very well seasoned. The shrimp was okay but on the tough side. The scallops had a bitter edge and the oysters were probably the worst I have ever had. Very fishy! All in all a disappointing meal. I doubt we return.
