We stumbled across this tiny spot in the center of Crestone and were immediately hooked — the moment we opened the door, the aroma told us we’d found something special.

We ordered the New Orleans–style honey fried chicken sandwich with fries, and it was hands down the biggest, juiciest, most perfectly seasoned chicken sandwich I’ve ever had — anywhere in the world, even in Louisiana! The crispy fries were golden perfection, and the malt was a nostalgic, creamy treat.

Owner and chef Keith is as memorable as the food itself — warm, welcoming, and full of great conversation. He takes obvious pride in his craft, preparing nearly everything from scratch in his small “scratch kitchen” and sourcing as many local ingredients as possible, including grass-fed wavy beef for what he swears is the best burger around. We agree! Ask him about the Louisiana trinity or how to make skillet brisket burger— you’ll leave with both a full stomach and a few inspired cooking tips.

One tip: don’t be disappointed if a favorite isn’t available — Keith runs through his most popular items quickly and won’t compromise on quality or freshness. If he can’t get the right ingredients, he’d rather wait than serve anything sub-par.

Don’t expect fancy décor or a big dining room — this is a humble, cozy little space where the food takes center stage. Prices are refreshingly reasonable for a mountain town, and the passion and care that go into each plate are unmatched. If you’re the type who would drive out of your way for a truly great meal, put this spot on your list.

Slacker breakfast, They could do much better. Processed hash browns paddy’s. Fake cheese the kind that’s individually wrapped in plastic. Bacon cooked to charcoal. Closed on the weekends because he says “it’s not worth it” yet the competition has long lines and 30 min waits.

Delicious! Missed breakfast but the lunch was great. We got the Friday fried chicken lunch special and fried chicken sandwich with rosemary honey. The sides (potato salad and mac & cheese) were tasty, good flavor!

I think this might be one of the best burgers I’ve ever had. Excellent fried catfish. I’ve never had potato salad in a burger, it was absolutely delicious! Unfortunately we didn’t realize that they don’t serve breakfast after 11 am so my vegetarian husband couldn’t eat anything off the lunch menu 🙁

The word has spread! We drove over an hour to come have breakfast at Bayou Mountain, and we were not at all disappointed! We got to meet the human behind the magic, and we were happy to enjoy the morning hanging out, talking, and enjoying some delicious food. We ate breakfast fare, but we already have plans to come back for lunch. Yummm IYKYK

The owner and chef who runs this “diner” is from New Orleans. This experience was better then some food tours I have paid for. I was expecting a few eggs and some sourdough toast but was blown away by the owners dedication and craft. I would call this a scratch kitchen that belongs on diners dives and drive ins. The owner smokes his own brisket and gets locally sourced meats from the local ranchers. All the sides were made from scratch in the kitchen by the owner! Definitely worth the few minutes extra drive!

Great place for a classic breakfast and solid diner food. The cool thing about a small town is that they pull from local sourced meat and vegetables so the quality is top notch. The owner Keifer was a pleasure to talk to really has a heart for doing things right for the locals and the tourists. Aurora was the cashier and maintained the front of the house..what a delight to see such a good heart for caring about what she does and the atmosphere she creates.
Really enjoyed the experience..went back twice and next time in the town..going back for that delicious ham..oh yes.
