Every time I shop at Artist & Craftsman across the street I have seen this little place and am kicking myself for not trying it sooner. It was my daughter’s choice for breakfast this morning and I am so glad we went! We were able to park right in front as it was about 8:30 in the morning. The tables are small, but the server offered to take some of the stuff away that we didn’t need. We both got the breakfast sandwich, which was egg, sausage, and cheese on a toasted English muffin. I chose grits as my side while my daughter got the rice and beans, which were delicious! A little spicy for me first thing in the morning, but super good. We both got pancakes as an extra. I got blueberries in mine. Most places use the big fat blueberries but Bayou Kitchen uses the Wyman’s wild blueberries, the small ones, which I prefer. We chose to upgrade our syrup to the real stuff, which made the already delicious pancakes even better. As a side note for me, thank you for not contributing to plastic waste by serving your cream and your syrup in those cute little pitchers. ❤️ The staff was very friendly, said hello as soon as we entered, and our meal came out in good time. The atmosphere was pleasant and comfortable. We will definitely be going back to try the rest of the menu.

We got most of the items on the Cajun classic menu and they were good—not amazing as the kitchen in the chicken was dry, the gumbo lacked flavor, and the cornbread was dry—but the wonderful service and atmosphere made up for it. Made it feel like we were back in New Orleans!

These guys cooked the most nostalgic breakfast I’ve had in awhile! I tried the cajun omelette (with crawfish). When my friend said she only wanted water for drink, they brought out a huge cup for her—yess. Love the funky decor and the staff were fabulous. Definitely coming back.

This is a small little restaurant with a definite New Orleans feel (hot and sticky). Servers were very friendly and food came out quick. Staff was knowledgeable about their gluten free options including the fact that there is a chance of cross contamination due to shared cooking surfaces. The GF jambalaya was great, and the cajun jalapeño burger was loved by my non-GF husband.

AMAZING. Not much more to say than that. I love me some food from the Louisiana world and this place other than a couple spots in New Orleans that I’ve eaten at was the best I’ve had. Go here, if you don’t.. Your loss. The cajun sausage biscuits and gravy special is a must try!

Stopped in on a whim and so glad I did. The staff was wonderful and the service was quick. I had the jambalaya with crawfish and biscuits on the side. Very, very flavorful. It was actually spicy but not overwhelming (which in Maine, “spicy” is normally just black pepper). The biscuits were nice and soft too. I will definitely be back here again when visiting Portland.

Fantastic amazing Cajun food from our southern homeland (I’ve been raised as a Mississippian & Floridian). Highly recommend. Both blueberry and jalapeno cornbreads were delicious. Gumbo amazing with added crawfish! Get grits with anything you order, they’re amazing! Long wait time to get in the door but worth the wait!

We were visiting Portland, Maine. This restaurant is awesome. The people are so nice, and the food was homemade. The Hurricane Omelete was beyond delicious. The potatoes, and cornbread were so tasty. I love this place. Please come to Texas!

Great food and awesome service! The wait staff apologized profusely for our wait which we didn’t mind. Exceptional service and the coffee was always full! The Coffee flavored pancakes were incredible! The Huevos rancheros was very good and so was the Omelette. The corn bread was good, but I had better ones. Overall, reasonable price, good food, and great service. I will definitely come back again.

The Verde chilli omelette was very tasty. I think this dish is my new favorite breakfast dish in Portland. I highly recommend the rice and beans as a side. I know you will be tempted for some potatoes, (which I’m sure are good) but go against your grain. The rice and beans are flavorful and complement this omelette perfectly. Also, the staff was great. can’t wait to return!
