Baxters – an upscale yet friendly place to eat. As you enter there is a full bar, with dinner service. Those folks are chatting and having a good time too! The restaurant is dark-ish, with good lighting over the booths. There are a few larger round tables for 6-8 pax but booths for everyone else. The “vegetable” side is always a fresh mixed steamed assortment. You can ask for just broccoli but they just pick it out of the mix for your plate. The bread served prior to the meal is excellent. The shrimp and fish are properly cooked and delicious. Limited sides- always ask as they may have more than are on the menu. Not a seafood restaurant per se, more of a steak place, but the seafood options are good. A bit pricey. Staff are very friendly.

If you live or vacation on the South End of Amelia Island, Baxter’s is a local staple. The bar is always packed with locals and fun bartenders. Baxter’s lives up to its reputation as a local “Cheers!” establishment. That being said, it caters more towards tastes of an elderly clientele (mostly standard, bland-ish fare.) This is not necessarily a bad thing. Baxter’s knows what its customers want and has been in business for years. The steak was well seasoned and flavorful, if a bit on the chewy side. The shrimp was fresh, and felt like healthly, tasty option. The calamari was a table favorite and the dipping sauce was surprisingly spicy and flavorful. However, it was extremely hot in the resturant section and I don’t know how people handle it during the dog days of summer! Plan for a winter, spring or autumn visit for maximum enjoyment.

We went with a group and were genuinely excited after looking over the menu, which sounded fantastic. Unfortunately, the experience didn’t live up to our expectations.

The French onion soup was excellent and was the highlight of the meal. However, things went downhill from there. We ordered steaks and chicken francese. Two of the steaks came out cooked incorrectly, and when we brought it to their attention, the owner came over and was visibly upset that we had sent them back. One person in our group said not to worry about remaking his steak, but the owner insisted, and we had to repeat ourselves multiple times before he finally backed off. His attitude throughout the interaction was uncomfortable and unprofessional.

Flavor-wise, all of the steaks were extremely disappointing. They were completely unseasoned and lacked any flavor. For the price, this was especially frustrating—I honestly could have made a better steak at home.

The chicken francese was also not what was expected at all. It looked more like a scampi dish, included peas, and tasted nothing like traditional francese. After checking with our very pleasant waitress, she confirmed that this was how the dish was prepared.

While our waitress was extremely kind and attentive, the owner’s behavior and the overall quality of the food left a lot to be desired. I would not recommend this place. If they consider themselves a steakhouse, they have a lot of work to do.

What a sad representation of what could have been a gold mine. Last year to start, there was the most unfrendliest bar tender in town. Unless you’re a local, forget being served. This year our friends insisted on trying it. The place smells of weird cleaning soap, and the booths and atmosphere was dingy. We got a server who had never heard of wine or martinis. There was one other table of eight people there at 5, and when we didn’t get our drinks in a reasonable time, the server said the bar tender had a large table she was getting drinks for. I ordered a wine, and the glass was dirty. We can’t critique the food because we didn’t stay. Never again…

The ribeye was great but the veggies really sucked. No flavor and the rum runner was horrible. And my wife’s parents said their stakes tased more like sirloin then ny strip. If your going to charge that much for food it better be perfect.

This restaurant definitely surprised me. Its been around a minute for sure and the booths could use some love, my mom could barely reach her food on the table, etc.. but the food. Nothing short of amazing. Escargot, baked brie, lamp and the sizzling steak, just wow. Absolutely perfect. We will definitely be back.

I would highly recommend most of the seafood. My girlfriend’s mahi was breaded and fried to perfection. They should just not serve the bread, its tough and cold. The surf and turf is not a $55 steak and lobster. The steak was not bad, I just don’t see this as being the best steakhouse in the Amelia island area, as its promoted. The lobster tail was a little rubbery but still ok. Baked potato was super dry and the green beans tasted kind of old and warmed up. The salad had one tomato, one onion slice, one cucumber slice, and one green pepper slice on a bed of arugula. Which isn’t the worst salad ever served. On a $55 plate I would expect a little more. Our server was fast and attentive, very good service. So if you go with fried seafood I think it’s a win.

The petite fillet was melting your mouth fantastic! But on the other hand, what they call French onion soup is not French onion soup there was rosemary in it. Oh yes, I tasted the rosemary. I make a wicked good the best in town French onion soup, I couldn’t taste any wine Or cognac., I was so looking forward to that.

The server was great. Very sweet and attentive. The food was nothing special. The Brie, well I’m not even sure what you were supposed to do with it. The fruit made no sense, the garlic bulb with the pairing of fruit was odd, and the bread you couldn’t cut through or pull apart without crushing it. The burger was very flavorless. The cheese and onions carried it. The steak was good, but the vegetable and the raw, old looking broccoli very underwhelming.

I took my friends to dinner and could not have been more disappointed. The 14 oz ribeye steak for $49 were both so small and well done it was unacceptable. I don’t believe it was 14 oz because it was so well done. We returned and because one of the guests got a NY strip that was very good w reordered the strip….. It was not the sa,e and it was thin, not medium rare, and not good. We decided to go somewhere that offered authentic deserts and were pleasantly surprised at the Lagniappe. Service and deserts were excellent and I wished I had spent ,y $300+ there for dinner…Baxters meat may be angus but is is not prime, or even choice meat, if you k ow the difference. Will never go there again.
