We arrived early for our reservation and were seated promptly downstairs, which was a first for us. A gentleman poured us water, and we had time to look over the menu. Unfortunately, it took about 10 minutes before our server, Denise, came to greet us.
We ordered the shrimp malagueta, side of plantains, and ensopado de porco. The food arrived in a timely manner. However, my mariscada was missing key ingredients clearly listed on the menu, specifically crab and fish. There was also no check-in from our server after appetizer and entrees were delivered.
When I waved Denise down to ask about my entree, she stated that the crab and fish were incorporated into the sauce and therefore not served in pieces. I did share with her that I ate the dish less than 4 weeks ago and there were definitely pieces in there. She took my plate to the kitchen, spoke with whomever, and returned to inform me that they have been out of fish and crab for about a month and have been substituting additional shrimp and calamari instead. While I understand supply challenges happen, this information should have been shared before ordering. My reservation that evening was centered around ordering the mariscada specifically for its seafood blend, so this was disappointing.
I left feeling let down by the experience. I’ve been a loyal customer of Batuqui for over five years and have always supported the restaurant, its robust food and beverage menu, and evening specials. Regrettably, this evening has altered my perception of a place I’ve long enjoyed.
We started with a Brazilian Wax cocktail and for appetizers we added Calmari and Fried Plantains (so sweet with crispy edges).
If I had to complain….I will say the seats are not very comfortable for my old back and for the price per person value….I wouldn’t mind having some cushion to my seat.
We will be back for more!!
Our meals were amazing! My friends all said “I’ll be taking half of my dinner home” and both of them Ate their entire meal And shared dessert! We got the coconut butter cake and let me tell you, it’s. MUST TRY! Wow is all I can say! I forgot a photo because we all ate it so fast. It was Amazing! I was so happy they enjoyed it too! Our server Alex was even able to accommodate my food allergies and eliminate them from my meal to my pure delight! Muito Obrigada!
Large parties? They have a lower level that can accommodate larger groups or private parties too! Who knew?!
This was my first time here and I was blown away with how good it was. The food is full of flavor and there’s lots of variety to pick from. This is an old church that was renovated and turned into a restaurant. The inside is elegant, but yet not over the top. The menu has extremely nice selections for a modest price point and a fully stocked bar to cover all of your desires. The service was amazing and every single thing we ordered was just an explosion of flavor in our mouth! There is a fair bit of parking around the building and on the street area and the overall location was neat and clean, but you definitely need to climb steps to get in and out so if you are in a wheelchair, you might need to call ahead to see what provisions they have to get you in. I have nothing bad to say about this location and will definitely visit again myself in the near future!!!
I tried a traditional cocktail called caipirinha, a refreshing mix of muddled lime and sugar, shaken with ice and cachaça, a sugarcane spirit.
Had the coconut butter cake for dessert!! It’s served warm and was delicious!!
Highly recommend! Will be back.
