This bookstore/bar was so unique and cozy! I was in awe of how many bookshelves they worked into the space and how efficient the bar upstairs was. There was live music and the whole thing was so classy! the St. Germaine spritz was delicious and I found some books I’d been looking for and unable to find anywhere else. everyone should swing by this place at least once!

Since I love to read books, I wanted to stop in and check this place out while I was in Asheville. It’s a cool place. The humans and crackers were good, carrots were fresh. I had a glass of Chenin blanc. I brought my own book to read and walked around the whole place to check out the books. I love the concept. Cute little spot to stop in if you appreciate books.

This is the most unique bar stores/ restaurants / bars I’ve ever been in. They have new and used books on all types of subjects matter, good food and drinks. Definitely a must if you are in Asheville NC

I loved this place when I first visited in July 2025. Excellent selection of books and beautiful atmosphere for socializing or reading quietly in the many open seating areas throughout. I brought my dog then and had no issue. Upon return in November 2025, was informed they no longer allow dogs inside. The person who told me this, presumably the owner or manager, was very nice about it and even brought a treat out to my pup. I wish that policy would change but realize there are several factors including past guests and food service that factor into these decisions. Still highly recommend this as a place to visit and spend some time.

The violinist in the live jazz trio looked like a self-taught fiddler in a backwoods amateur bluegrass band but he played as if he had a scholarship at Julliards. Sometimes, surface appearance, as interesting as it is, hides an even deeper, better nature. This isn’t the only bookstore/cafe, bookstore/bar I’ve been to. it looks like a decent attempt to create a carefully curated ambiance of spontaneous charm. The bookstore part was actually a good bookstore with a mishmash of new and used books as well as special first editions, signed books. The champagne bar did a lovely job of presenting a manageable but varied and solid selection. Prices for the tasting flights were quite reasonable for the selection and the pour was generous. But after a few minutes in the place, the artifice revealed a genuine charm. And somehow, every time I walked by a bookshelf, I managed to see a book that I wanted to read and buy. In fact, I did buy a used copy of a photobook of early 20th Century major construction projects in New York City. Something that I wouldn’t look for on my own and something I couldn’t buy for cheaper on Amazon. And somehow, it was right where I couldn’t help but see while I was waiting in line for the bathroom. And every single person I interacted with at the establishment was friendly and engaging beyond a rudimentary smile and rehearsed welcome. They genuinely seemed to care about books, champagne and the customers who like books and champagne. Frankly, if I lived nearby, I’d be hear twice a week.

We had our wedding welcome reception at Battery Park and Book Exchange, hosted by Donna in the enchanting “Gatsby Room,” and it was an absolute dream come true. The setting was beyond magical—sipping champagne surrounded by towering book stacks while a jazz band played softly in the background created an ambiance straight out of a fairy tale.

Donna, our gracious host, deserves every accolade for her exceptional service. From the moment we began planning, Donna’s dedication and attention to detail were evident. She went above and beyond to ensure every aspect of our reception was flawless, and her efforts truly paid off. We were blown away by the abundance and variety of food and desserts she curated for our event. Trusting her to select the menu was one of the best decisions we made; every dish was exquisite and perfectly complemented the evening.

The jazz band provided the ideal soundtrack, adding a sophisticated touch to the atmosphere. The bartenders and servers were equally wonderful, ensuring our guests felt welcomed and attended to throughout the night.

Overall, our experience at Battery Park and Book Exchange under Donna’s guidance was nothing short of extraordinary. It was a night filled with joy, laughter, and unforgettable memories, thanks to Donna’s impeccable planning and the venue’s unique charm. We are grateful for such a perfect beginning to our wedding festivities and will cherish the memories created in the “Gatsby Room” forever!

The atmosphere is incredibly unique, blending the charm of a bookstore with the elegance of a wine bar. You can browse an extensive collection of books while sipping on a glass of wine or a crafted coffee. The cozy nooks and eclectic decor make it a perfect spot for a relaxing afternoon. It’s an experience not to be missed!

Live music on Saturday! And the most delicious salad I’ve had in a long time. Be aware there is no coffee here, which I expected because of all the books for some reason.

Without equal. A used book store for serious book lovers. Nothing like it anywhere. Come for champagne or a cup of tea with sweets but gorge yourself on the amazing selection of books. I picked up A western Journal by Thomas Wolfe, 1951. $20. “The farm buildings curiously forgotten in the vast curious landscape.” Battery Park Books, a jewel to be savored among the Great Smoky Mountains.

Slice of heaven in historic downtown Asheville!
Such a pleasant find as we walked the downtown streets on a Sunday afternoon. As we passed a sidewalk art fair we saw the outside umbrellas and the pillow filled outdoor furniture and beautiful guitar and Ellie e samble playing on the outdoor patio.
We venture in to find a very calming darkish old world book store with multiple levels and a humming vibe of book enthusiasts and those here to have lunch and a cocktail.
We sat on the wonderfullly relaxing patio and ordered wine by the glass and a plentiful charcuterie board filled with cheeses, salami, olives, nuts, spreads and finger breads.
An absolutely beautiful afternoon.
Thank you!
