I was able to finally check this place out, since they have new ownership with new hours! It didn’t disappoint. It can be a bit difficult to find parking during the busy times but there wasn’t a wait. It is a quaint little building with great lakeside decor. The service was fine, not spectacular but I have a feeling they will get better as they go. The food was excellent. I ended up having the club sandwich and it was a great portion. They were out of fries (it was around 1pm) so I ended up with onion rings and they were excellent. The rest of the table got Shrimp and Grits, country fried steak and a deconstructed beef stew (it was pork beef, no stew). Overall, I’m glad I tried it but I will give it a few weeks to get the kinks worked out before I return. I would definitely recommend trying this place!

Oof. I’ve never waited so long for two sandwiches in a long time. We finished a job around the corner. Like a few other patrons there we waited over an hour for our food. We felt bad for the waitresses as they were trying to keep all the guest happy.
The sad part was that the walk in to go orders were going out faster and priority over the people actually waiting.
By the time our food was ready we had to leave. Nearly an hour and a half for a club sandwich with onion rings and a reuben with fries. I cant speak for the reuben. The club was pretty standard. The onion rings were really good as recommended by our waitress Dorothy. Great recommendation but man the kitchen needs to get it together.
Neat place with great potential yet kitchen will hurt it if people are waiting hours for basic food

We had a wonderful breakfast at Batesville General Store in Clarkesville, and it was such a cute and quaint spot! Our waitress, Kiera, was absolutely wonderful—so sweet and super attentive.

The food was really good. I ordered eggs over medium (they came out closer to over easy), but they still had great flavor. The bacon was perfectly cooked, and the berries were fresh and delicious. My husband had a hot, out-of-the-oven biscuit that he said was amazing.

Prices were very reasonable, and it was the perfect way to start our day and fuel up before our hike. We’ll definitely be back!

I had an older review, but the restaurant has changed hands since then, and the new version is SO MUCH better I thought it best to write a new one.
Enjoyed a scrumptious brunch at the all-new Batesville General Store last Saturday. The store is the same, but the new menu is loaded with so many great tasting items. The coffee is excellent, and the service is second to none. If you’re driving around NE Georgia, then you’ll simply not find a better place to stop.

Great service, food, and atmosphere. Or server, Katie?, was very attentive and kind. My only suggestion is the sausage patties could be thinner. It had a great taste but just too thick for me. I didn’t get a picture of my plate. We also had a carry out bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich that was huge! Loved the fresh bread.

Cutest little breakfast and lunch spot. Homemade everything from Bonnie’s recipes (new owner). Worth a day trip at least. Amber our server was so heartwarming and so sweet as well as all the staff. They welcomed and treated you like family.

The food was absolutely delicious — fresh, flavorful, and made with care. Everyone we encountered was incredibly friendly and welcoming, which made the whole experience even better. A special shoutout to our server, Sylvia, who went above and beyond to take care of us. She was kind, attentive, and made us feel right at home. Highly recommend stopping by if you’re in the area — you won’t be disappointed!

Came for lunch, left pretty disappointed in the experience.

Perhaps our expectations were too high, given that we had heard many good things about new ownership & revitalization. The inside of the restaurant is nice- hardwood floors, about 10 tables or so, desserts, some merch, etc. There is one TV (at least while we were there), that was playing mind-numbing loops of TikTok videos of cats. But I digress.

We had to wait quite a while to place our order. There were plenty of people working there, however we still seemed to have a difficult time tracking down our server.

I ordered the BLT, my wife got the chicken salad sandwich. The BLT was underwhelming- the tiniest sliver of tomato, served dry on a couple of pieces of white bread. Am I crazy for thinking a BLT should come standard with mayo? The staff seemed to think that I was. I guess for $14 I expected a little more. Chicken Salad croissant was small, and pretty average.

I’m sure folks out there might like it…it’s quaint, nostalgic, but for us it just didn’t hit the mark.

We ate in this restaurant on 11/16. Food was great. Chicken was exceptional. We returned on 11/23. The waitress took more than 5 minutes to enter our order in the handheld device. When the food arrived, the vegetables were hot, chicken was cold. It was dark colored (overcooked), cold, and small. It was not good. I ate one strip and cut into the second. No chicken. It was a doughball. Worse yet, the inside of this thing was gray. To add insult to injury, the waitress got our tea orders wrong several times. It is sweet or unsweet. How can it get that confusing.

My theory, last Sunday was like a grand opening. This Sunday is what you get once the crowds start coming. Oh yeah, one more thing. The fish, which some said was delicious, is off the menu. I don’t normally fall for bait and switch but I do feel like that now.

We live in Batesville and would love to have another restaurant where we can dine occasionally. Batesville General Restaurant is not it.

I have eaten there many times, over the years. New owner now, after being closed for awhile. Just as good, if not better! Shana was my server and she was just plain Awesome! Great attitude, professional and funny! The food was excellent and the price was fair! For decades, there has been a sign when you are entering Batesville, on Hwy 197, that welcomes you to Batesville. On the bottom of the sign it reads, “Best Biscuits In Batesville!”. They still live up to that reputation and history. And WOW! They are so big and fluffy! Can’t wait to eat there, again! Thanks for reopening!
