Bates House of Turkey took me back in time to thanksgiving dinner at my high school girlfriend’s Southern Baptists parent’s house. You see, I was Catholic and when I would arrive there would be an awkward silence whilst we ate. I couldn’t wait to leave. Not because the food was bad, because it wasn’t. It just wasn’t great. Just warm enough and just homemade enough to call it homemade. The silence was deafening. I needed a beer.

Meh. The food wasn’t warm, much less hot. The food was tasty, but I don’t want cold food.
One order was a turkey plate and it wasn’t even warm, not even the gravy. I had a smoked turkey sandwich, and it wasn’t hot either. I’m not sure if it should’ve been. But it was very small, more like a slider, I should’ve ordered two. The sandwich was a tasty little fella.
My other issue is common at a lot of places. We ordered and paid at the counter, got our own drinks, and picked up our food when our name was called, and yet the app defaults to adding a tip. The service isn’t any different than a fast food place, and we don’t tip there either. Yeah, I gave a tip, but should’ve tipped myself, I did everything.
Bates did quickly respond to the other diners’ review to gather more details.

Best places to stop going I65 South or North in Greenville, Ala. Great fresh made sandwiches . They also have fresh made dishes to go that are frozen to cook for later. All types of desserts and the turkey jerky is my favorite. Definitely recommend to stop then you will never just pass it again.

Past by it 50 times but today I stopped. Best turkey never tasted anything like it. Green beans were canned but tasty. Great place to stop on interstate 65

Counter service restaurant with turkey sandwiches and turkey plates. If you’re on a trip and in the area it’s an ok place for lunch, better than fast food options but not by much. Turkey was mushy, more lunch meat quality than actual turkey breast. Sides were just ok. Sweet potato souffle tasted strongly of cloves and nutmeg. Butter beans and potato salad were fine but not great. Healthier and marginally better than fast food and about the same price. Caters more towards the interstate crowd than the sit-down restaurant crowd.

I stopped by Bates House of Turkey for dinner on my way home to Pensacola. It’s right off I‑65, and my friends have been talking about it forever, so I finally decided to give it a try. I don’t normally write reviews, but I felt like I had to after the service I got tonight. The hickory smoked turkey sandwich was pretty average, but Lexi and the other girls who took my order were just the sweetest. They were so friendly, welcoming, and patient — truly the kind of service you don’t see every day. They’re the reason I’ll be stopping back by next time I’m passing through.

I have heard about this restaurant for many years but have never been able to stop. While traveling south to the beach, we took the opportunity and had a great meal. The turkey plate was like a mini thanksgiving meal and was delicious. The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars was due to several tables that had not been cleared and cleaned. We had a late lunch so the restaurant was not busy but maybe they were short handed so not a big deal to me and my partner since we found a table that was ready for us. I will come back again and look forward to it!

This place is sooo good. I didn’t know what to expect when I went. I had a smoked turkey salad wrap and OMG, it was so good. My husband got their turkey and dressing dinner, and I was wowed again. Southern people are so picky about dressing and let me say, It was very good.

I got the house turkey play it was pretty good I got extra gravy gravy with homemade and delicious turkey the smoked turkey was definitely the way to go I got to smoke turkey sandwich and it was the bomb they only had rolled gold barbecue sauce which bean from the Midwest was a little hairy because we like our sweet and spicy or savory red kind. All in all it was a fun experience. Anytime I’ve passed through prior they were always closed, so I didn’t even know that this place was still open, the parking lots a little bit decrepit! It was nice to see them open for once when I was in the area..
