We had a GREAT time! This was our sixth trip to Basil, but our FIRST time to this location in North Charleston. We gotta tell you….our hearts were stolen. We were seated in less than 2 minutes. Our server Alexis was TOP TIER. The chef absolutely crushed it with my husband’s baramundy fish, which is quietly picky about because it’s never spicy enough. They accommodated my allergies, served us delicious food, and all in all were top notch. Our server Alexis had a group of 8 to serve right beside us, and she STILL was super attentive to us (and them), worked with a smile, and managed some friendly conversation.

100% returning to this location over Mt. Pleasant now.

We walked in at 8:30 PM on Monday night five people, Four of us are vegetarians
The host told us the kitchen is closed and they cannot see us. We said we’re gonna order real quick and she refused saying that the kitchen is closed.!!!!!! I Have never seen a place that do not place people half hour before closing time. Also we told them we are going to be really fast and we can take it to go and she also said they closed down the kitchen.
Not sure if the owners know about this I just wanted to say how upset we were

This was my first time eating at a Thai restaurant. I had stuffed shrimp egg roll as my appetizer with the vegetable delight with chicken and Peach Blossom cocktail. The egg roll was hot, fresh and crispy. The broth from the vegetable delight was well seasoned. The vegetables were still crunchy not soaked in the broth. My cousin had fried chicken wings with shrimp fried rice and an Armaretto. The chicken wings were crunchy and well seasoned. For spicy food lovers, this dish would be up your alley. The shrimp fried rice was well seasoned, the shrimp were jumbo and delicious. Our waiters name was Kelly. She was funny, attentive, and very nice. I can see myself going back here again.

The atmosphere was elegant and upscale. The service was warm and inviting. Our waitress was attentive to us during dinner. For our appetizer, we ate the stuff shrimp which were really delicious. Unfortunately, dinner was not a “wow”. I ate Basil Shrimp and I felt like the shrimp were not fresh caught. Considering their location, I would expect fresh local shrimp. I did love the fact that they offered brown rice as an option. Hubby ate the Basil Beef. He enjoyed it; however, he did request Thai Hot and felt that the heat level was not hot or in comparison to other Thai restaurants. This was our 1st dining experience at the PC location.

Recently went to Basil and it may have been the worst experience we have had at a restaurant. Went during restaurant week because we wanted to try a new local restaurant in our community that we hadn’t yet been to. I want To give credit and express my gratitude to what little staff seemed to be working; they worked extremely hard and the food was delicious. However, the systems and management gave them no chance to succeed. Starting at the front door, the poor hostess was using random post-it notes instead of a normal waitlist for dine in seating and just seating whoever showed up instead of working the list like is standard for a restaurant. Our server worked extremely hard but impossible to provide good service when you have to care for 1/3 of the restaurant. They were overwhelmed with DoorDash/uber eats orders and based on recent reviews this doesn’t seem to be just a restaurant week issue. I saw No management in front or back of house helping or apologizing to guests for the long wait times. Overall it was 2 hours and 23 minutes from when we first got our name put on a random sticky note to when we left and 1 hour 33 minutes from being seated to leaving when we put our order in as soon as we sat down.
Unfortunately the food was not good enough to make up for this poorly managed restaurant and will be choosing to dine elsewhere next time we are in the Park Circle area.

Had a chance to try Basil during restaurant week 2024. Starting with the fried wontons (not pictured I forgot to grab a picture before I devoured them) very nice, different in taste because they’re not crab but not different in a bad way. Good portion app with about 8-10 served in it. The Pad Thai and Pad See Eu were both great dishes and very flavorful. With good portion sizes. I had the Pad Thai medium and felt as if it could’ve easily been a mild so the server was gracefully able to provide additional spice (garlic chili paste) so feel on the safe side ordering knowing the spice level will not be overbearing. For dessert I had the Raspberry Cheesecake which was amazingly light and soft, not dense at all it was a dream to finish the meal with. The mixed drink was the Creamy Lemon Cake which was very delicious and almost felt like a dessert in of itself. It had an actual lemon cake aftertaste with little to no alcohol taste during or after the drink. Our server was incredibly kind, happy to serve, and had a bubbly welcoming personality. Safe to say I will definitely be back here for more.

Basil Park Circle is a case study in gross mismanagement. The place has everything going for it: prime location in the heart of Park Circle, authentic, fresh and affordable food, and a front of house team who is eager to provide a pleasant experience.

Sadly, the restaurant has been completely overrun by Uber Eats , Door Dash, etc., and now primarily operates as a ghost kitchen. Good luck getting a traditional takeout order, as the kitchen won’t even start to cook it until an hour after you place it.

If you cancel your order, the restaurant will still charge you, and it will be up to you to call them back and ensure you get a refund. This has happened to us more than once. Even then, you will be lucky if they don’t accuse you of fabricating your story and requesting a refund in bad faith.

Worst of all is the poor teenage hostesses who have to deal with the chaos at the door. Between sleeveless Uber drivers, hungry takeout patrons, and dine-in customers who just want to find a seat, I have never seen real management up front. Instead, it’s always these good-intentioned but powerless teenagers who have been placed by management in an untenable position.

I have sworn off Basil on multiple occasions, but this last one was for good. My recommendation to management: limit your door dash and uber orders, focus on the people ordering from you directly, and find a better way to manage your kitchen and front of house.

I enjoyed my experience. The server was friendly and knowledgeable. The food was different and tasty. I was disappointed that the hours of operations are short. The bathroom was clean. It was a beautiful experience. I encourage you to visit and see Jah (I think that is the correct spelling). If not, I apologize in advance.

Always a great meal when dining here. Just wish there weren’t so many takeouts near our table at the entrance. Took away from the ambiance of eating out. Seems like they focused more on the to go orders than the dining in experience. I asked for nam pla but I got soy sauce with chilis.

Curry duck was good, although i feel like the curry is not sufficient as the meat was a lot. Coconut chicken soup was featured, while the chicken was a little dry, the soup tasted good. Pad Thai was a little sour. Spring roll was fresh with the sauce. Sadly no thai tea to be found. Overall more like a fusion thai restaurant.
