There is something special about walking into Base Camp Restaurant. Nestled at 2611 W Colorado Ave in Old Colorado City, it feels intentional, welcoming, and rooted in Colorado flavor from the very first glance at the menu. Every dish we experienced was layered, thoughtful, and incredibly fresh.

We began with the loaded baked potato topped with broccolini, bacon, white cheddar sauce, sage aioli, and trout roe. It was rich without being heavy, perfectly balanced with the salt of the roe and the freshness of the broccolini. Each bite was savory and vibrant, proof that even a comfort classic can be elevated into something extraordinary.

The warm spinach salad was just as impressive. Tossed in a bacon vinaigrette with pickled shallots, we substituted goat cheese and added candied pecans, which gave it the perfect creamy and sweet contrast. The ingredients tasted garden fresh and beautifully composed. Nothing felt rushed. Nothing felt ordinary.

The molasses glazed salmon with cranberry barley risotto was the star of the evening. The salmon was cooked to perfection, tender and flaky with a subtle caramelized glaze that complemented the bright tartness of the cranberry barley. It was hearty yet refined, deeply savory and undeniably Colorado inspired.

What sets this place apart is not only the quality of the food but the heart behind it. Chef Matt graciously donated a $75 gift card to support an upcoming local charity event at @everydaygirl_adventures for @theunderdogswithdogheaven benefiting both the Woodland Park and Colorado Springs communities that @dogheavenllc helps. That generosity speaks volumes about the kind of establishment this is.

Fresh ingredients. Bold yet balanced flavors. A menu that feels curated and intentional. Base Camp is not just a meal. It is an experience and truly a must visit in Old Colorado Springs. Thank you mcjonesy22 for the work lunch chatting all things community and nonprofits. @basecampcos is a must experience part of Colorado.

I’ll level with you . . . Atmosphere was perfect, we were the only ones there for lunch! My mom doesn’t like loud places and has specific food needs. We love shared plate restaurants, this was perfect!!! I loved the seasonal cosmo cocktail, we shared the bean something and beef check something arepa. Sorry I don’t remember the names, but they were fabulous and perfect for a light lunch. I’ll be back for dinner and love the menu set up for picking your own options. And also want to try the chef choice dinner option!

First time trying out base camp and it was wonderful! All the food was made well with just the right amount of flavor. Ingredients were fresh and their marshmallows and Graham crackers were homemade!

We had the spring onions stew that had the perfect onion flavor and was not salty at all.

The smoked trout croquettes with the perfect amount of smokiness and properly textured.

There was the steak frites with chimmichuri sauce and wow!!! The bison Flatiron (locally sourced) was so tender. The chimmicburi sauce added a nice complement but didn’t take away or over power the flavor of the meat.

Next was the Shepard’s pie and I’m honestly really picky with my lamb but they did not disappoint. It was a lamb stew and that sauce was nicely flavored and a bit thick.

Then we had the BLAT which had a braised pork belly, pastry puff, tomato compote, and some avocado. Usually pork belly can be overly greasy but these were not. A bit of a messy dish but great flavor combos.

For dessert we had the mint s’mores. I wanted to try this since the marshmallow and Graham crackers are homemade. I personally am not a mint chocolate fan so wasn’t too enthused with that part. But the marshmallow was really good. Only wished the marshmallow was charred more.

Overall, the food is excellent here. There isn’t any overwhelming or overpowering flavors competing against each other. And nothing felt or tasted too oily or too rich. There was just such great balance and you can tell they use good quality ingredients.

Lastly, the service was excellent. Our server Janelle (unsure if that is spelled right) was so warm and inviting. Gave us great suggestions and was overall very attentive and kind.

Will definitely coming back! Hoping to try their homemade biscuits next time

This place was great! My husband and I shared the “Choose Your Own Adventure” for 75$. We got the gnocchi, which in my opinion was nothing like authentic gnocchi, and wasn’t my favorite. But it was still good. Also got the Loaded baked potato, which was my favorite. it is very unique. the homemade cheese sauce was delicious. 10/10 potato. Next the Fried pork chop, was also very delicious and cooked very good. Last we got the salmon, which i also wasn’t a huge fan of. It comes with a raw center which is not my favorite. overall flavor was good. Others may really enjoy. Last the chocolate Pecan pie dessert was really good!!! I’d say we went 2 for 4 in my tastes buds, but overall a great experience.

Highly recommend!! We litterally had to try so many menu items because it all looked great and were so happy we did! We had:
– BBQ Relleno (lots of flavors!)
– Southwest Corn Chowder (sweet & spicy, packed with flavor)
– Pork Green Chile Meatballs (spicy and great with the sweet corn muffins/agave butter!)
– Bourbon Bison Steak (SO juicy!)
-Raspberry Lemon Smores (the marshmallows melt in your mouth!)
– Peach Dumplings (peaches wrapped in dumplings with butterscotch sauce!!)

**Highly Recommend ** We had a great time at this new spot! KJ and Eli were amazing—super friendly and made us feel really welcome. The “Choose Your Own Adventure” menu was such a fun idea, and everything we tried was delicious and reasonably priced.

Highlights from our meal: the street corn was flavorful and addictive, the barbecue relleno was packed with pulled pork goodness, and the pork green chili meatballs were excellent! The Trout Sandua was refreshing and perfectly cooked. And the raspberry lemon s’mores? Absolute showstopper—sweet, tart, and just the right touch of campfire nostalgia to end the night.

It’s definitely worth checking out if you’re looking for good food, good vibes, and a unique dining experience.

This place is a gem! The food, the atmosphere, the service – fantastic!! Our host, Collin, was amazing and shared so many fun facts about the restaurant, the chef, and the food. He made our first visit to Basecamp amazing. We had one of the “expeditions” – every course was amazing, but my favorite of the night was the Udon and the Carrot Cake for dessert.

We had a reservation for 7pm for my birthday and the weather the last few days has been absolutely awful. They called to confirm earlier in the day, and I happily confirmed. When we arrived we were welcomed right away and seated. Due to the weather we were the only guests. The restaurant itself was well lit and clean, and you could tell it was well taken care of.

Matthias our server was really great and as it was our first time there explained the menu, and all our options. We decided on the Guided Tour expedition, which is a 10 course meal where each course is decided by Chef Matt and had several surprises not currently on the menu. My husband had a Cider and Peaches & Cream craft soda, while I had the Rootbeer on tap! Everything was so good. Our favorite dish was an arepas benedict and it had the best hollandaise I’ve ever had at any restaurant I’ve been to.

Matthias checked in with us the perfect amount during our meal, and was happy to explain each course as he presented them to us. At the end of our meal the desserts were so good and the perfect portions after the previous savory courses.

Chef Matt came to check on us at the very end, and we had a wonderful talk. You can tell his heart and soul goes into the dishes he prepares, and loves what he does.

Overall, it was the best birthday dinner I have had in many years. I cannot say enough good about Base Camp, Chef Matt and Matthias our server!

We plan to return with friends and every season when the new menus come out. We are so excited to see what comes next!

Happy people work here. The bison flank steak & maple braised pork belly are the absolutely delicious. The pavlova is my favorite version – light, airy & crispy. The pistachio quail is cute and interesting. The cacio e pepe is also very good, although I’m not usually a fan of pasta
