Barrio Queen is the best restaurant in Phoenix for authentic Mexican food and craft cocktails. We are conveniently located in the center of the Desert Ridge Marketplace Mall off the 101 and Tatum. Our food pays homage to history and culture by serving fresh, authentic Mexican cuisine using traditional recipes from barrios throughout Mexico. We had an absolutely phenomenal dining experience at Barrio Queen—hands down one of the best meals of our Phoenix trip!
Our server, Mary Jane, was an absolute legend. From the moment we sat down, she brought incredible energy, genuine warmth, and spot-on recommendations. She made our family feel right at home, checking in perfectly without ever hovering.
We ordered a feast: the standout Sonoran Shrimp Tacos (bursting with fresh, perfectly seasoned shrimp, crisp veggies, and that signature Sonoran flair), sizzling shrimp fajitas that filled the table with mouthwatering aroma, three additional tacos loaded with flavor, and three kid-friendly options that even our picky eaters devoured without complaint.
The food arrived lightning-fast, piping hot, and every bite was delicious—fresh ingredients, bold flavors, and generous portions. What really elevated the meal was the service: our drinks (especially those excellent margaritas—smooth, perfectly balanced, and dangerously refreshing) were never allowed to dip below half-full before Mary Jane swooped in with a smile and a refill. It’s the little things like that which turn good into memorable.
This spot delivered everything we wanted for a relaxed family dinner: great food, top-tier hospitality, and a welcoming vibe. Coming from Wisconsin, we felt truly taken care of. We’re already counting down to our next Phoenix visit so we can return—highly recommend to anyone craving authentic, crave-worthy Mexican in the Valley!

Today at Desert Ridge was absolutely delightful. I basked in the beautiful weather and explored charming shops, feeling a real sense of joy. A spontaneous decision led me to Barrio Queen for a quick escape—my first visit, and certainly not my last. I savored a delicious brunch that made the entire experience unforgettable. A special shoutout to Eric, my bartender—his charm, attentiveness, and genuine helpfulness elevated the moment. If you have a moment, stop by and try an iced coffee infused with Licor 43 Cuarenta y Tres, a Spanish liqueur. Eric crafts the drink to perfection, and I promise you’ll love it as much as I did! Thank you, Eric—you truly are exceptional!

I really enjoyed my time at Barrio Queen. I went around mid day. The open air setting is lovely. The young lady who served me was so very attentive and kind. The street tacos were very good! I had one birria and a pork one as well, forgot the name of the second taco type. Their chips and warm salsa are superb!
I’m in the area once every year for one week in February, and I go at least one time each year. Great service and food!

What a great experience we had at Barrio Queen today! First, highest marks to our server Angela. She was delightful and professional. Her recommendations on the menu helped our entire party make perfect choices. Angela’s personality sparkled and her service was top notch! (In fact I suggested to the manager, Brian, that she deserves a raise.) Every dish we tried was delicious. We especially enjoyed the guacamole and the tamales. This was our first visit to Barrio Queen—but it will not be our last!

Visited this place for the first time yesterday for lunch,, was greeted and seated by M.J.I didn’t feel as though she was warm pleasant or friendly. Was meeting a friend for lunch or I would’ve left after that experience. However, our server, Gavin Turned everything around he was pleasant, friendly, I had the tacos they were OK. My drink was good and I did not care for the chips and salsa.

On a pre-game drop in, and coming off a nice nap, we tried Barrio Queen. A very nice catrina themed Mexican restaurant. It was just before lunch, but the place wasn’t too busy, and we were seated promptly by the host. Our server, Valentina V. (Tina), was quick to present us with menus, chips and (tasty) salsa, and take out orders. She was on it – makes a mean guac.
I wanted to try their tacos, and Liz did try two shrimp tacos that looked really good. Noemi enjoyed her kids chicken quesadilla, nothing too complicated there. Noah tried the Tamale Duo. The tamale duo came with one chicken in red sauce tamale, and one green chile pork tamale with rice and beans. He put a good dent in it for sure, meaning he really liked it.
I enjoyed my birria enchiladas plate. The cheese and birria enchiladas were covered in green chile. It was pretty good, and I didn’t leave anybody any bites.
Tina checked on us throughout the meal, and make sure to take care of us during our time there.
We left full and happy. I’d come to back to try their bar, and probably a variety of their tacos.

We had amazing service and most of the food was amazing! The Mexican chocolate cake and Mexican street corn are my favs favs. Sadly, my carne asada street tacos were a little charred for my taste. Overall, great meal!!

This place was amazing the steak was cooked to perfection very tender and juicy. Food was hot. I asked for special toppings for them with no problems and no extra charge. The game was playing at the bar and old school music played on the background. Servers were friendly and attentive . Clean atmosphere would highly recommend.

Wonderful experience and delicious food at this restaurant
Food : my group of 6 ordered 3-4 entrees and shared them among the group as some of the meals are quite large and designed to be shared. All were absolutely delicious and prepared and served so beautifully. Everyone left with a full and happy belly.
Service: our service was amazing, she made wonderful recommendations that did not disappoint.
Atmosphere: the atmosphere at this restaurant is bright and fun, reminds me of the film Coco with all of the vibrant and beautiful colors and decor.
I would absolutely recommend this restaurant and plan to go back myself.
