We sat at the bar the other day. The bartender, Angel, was awesome. He was hilarious and very attentive. The food was delicious and portions were big. Only complaint is they have Coke and not Pepsi but that’s more of a joke we had with the bartender. All around, great experience and we will be back soon. We got the Duck Confit Poutine and Birria Egg Rolls.

Whoo hoo. Great atmosphere for a Saturday afternoon lunch. The food was awesome and a great variety of cocktails. The restaurant filled up quickly in the afternoon, so make sure you make reservations.
I need a return trip. So many food choices.

Absolutely love this place. I’ve been a handful of times over the past few years and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it every time. We went for New Year’s Day on a whim and found two bar seats on the end that were open. The seating here is tight so unless you have a reservation, chances are you aren’t getting in. It is a whiskey bar, so there’s a significant amount of seating at the bar, but it is usually filled up at peak hours. Alas, we secured a spot. I got an old fashioned, my wife got a s’mores espresso martini – both delicious in their own right. We proceeded to BOTH order the steak frites which… if you’ve looked at the picture, hardly needs an explanation. I will say, it’s a hangar steak so certain parts were slightly difficult to cut, but nothing at fault of the chef. 90% of this steak was as tender as butter. Speaking of butter, it came with a side of oil, butter, and herbs – *drool*. The fries were truffle and we could not stop eating them. I usually am not a huge truffle fries kind of guy, but these were on point. The fries themselves had great texture and were excellent. My only gripe was you could feel the cold air from the fridge leaking through the bar, my wife had to put her coat over her knees lol. That and that I wish this place was bigger. Otherwise, this place is top tear. I recall the jambalaya was really good another time I went.

9.5/10 – would definitely go again

We ordered there for the first time the other night. Food was good, but then my husband took another bite of his jambalaya and was chewing on paper from either a receipt or a ticket. I called the restaurant to tell them about the incident. Told them I saved the dish and had a picture. The person I spoke to on the phone took my information and told me his manager would call me back. I never received a call back from them. Very disappointed because the food actually tasted good.

Barrel & Rye in Geneva, Illinois, is a total 5-star experience without a doubt!

From the moment you step inside, you’re in for a treat. The meat kabobs are mouth-wateringly delicious, perfectly grilled and bursting with flavor. The salad my friend purchased looked so fresh and satisfying, with just the right balance of ingredients, and the breaded shrimp is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside simply amazing!

But it’s not just the food every detail is impressive, even down to the fancy bathroom!

The staff is incredibly welcoming and attentive, making the dining experience even more enjoyable. Whether you’re in the mood for a hearty meal or just a cozy spot to relax, Barrel & Rye is definitely a must-visit in Illinois!

This was the best meal from start to finish that I have had in quite a while. The atmosphere was nice and our waitress, Aly was great. She had great recommendations and was so very sweet. The old fashioned is a must try but I was sad that it did not come with the cherry. I also had the smoked Manhattan which was pretty good and the charcuterie board to start with. The strawberry jalapeno jam was not spicy and very flavorful, I had the shrimp and grits for dinner which was amazing and we finished with a brownie and ice cream for dessert.

The drinks were outstanding; I highly recommend the Bourbon Milk Punch – the cookies on top truly elevated it to something special. The food was equally impressive. My crab cake sandwich was a delight, and the fries were cooked to perfection, crispy and flavorful.
The atmosphere was pleasant, but the noise level was a bit high for my liking. If you’re seeking a quiet, intimate dining experience, this may not be the ideal spot. However, if you’re looking for a lively place with excellent food and drinks, Barrel + Rye is a definite winner.
Pros:
Delicious, creative cocktails
Outstanding crab cake sandwich and fries
Cons:
Can be a bit loud
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Barrel + Rye and would happily return for another round of those fantastic drinks and food.

Oh goodness — I wasn’t sure what to expect when stopping in here at noon for lunch at a bistro, but I was blown away. I ordered the glazed salmon, and my wife had the birria grilled cheese.

Wow… it’s hard to put into words the flavor explosion from that salmon. The sweet notes of soy and teriyaki were perfectly balanced, and then, right at the end of each bite, a burst of citrus came through — making it quite frankly one of the best salmon dishes I’ve ever had anywhere.

My wife’s birria grilled cheese was a creative twist on the classic, and she enjoyed it thoroughly.

One note: seating is limited, so it might be worth calling ahead during busy times. That said, we had no trouble getting a table for Saturday lunch.

Such a fantastic place for a great meal — we will definitely be back!

Really enjoyed our recent lunch here with family. Weekday afternoon; patio was lovely and service was excellent.

We tried two shareables: the Baked Brie and the Stuffed Mushrooms (6). Both were so delicious with subtle flavors that worked well together.

Several tried the salads ~ they are definitely a meal-size portion. Others in our group liked the Linguine Primavera and the Barrel Burger. All the food we had was so delicious and fresh.

My only “beef” is that the menu doesn’t offer any sandwiches that are vegetarian. Even the grilled cheese contains meat. If they’d add a vegetarian or vegan sandwich, they’d be 5 stars across the board.

The menu here has a little of everything. We ordered the crab stack, b&r salad, the barrel burger and chicken shwarma. The crab stack was such a treat. Lump crab with crisp, cool diced veggies and a sauce that tied it together nicely. The B&R salad was great for 2 and could be split for 3. The burger was delicous but the fries were the real star. Perfectly crisp and fluffy on the inside. And finally, the chicken shwarma was warm and perfectly spiced. One of the better meala I’ve had lately. The service was excellebt as well. We’ll definately be dining again!
