The second you walk into Barrel Heads, Ashley greets you with that genuine smile that says, “Relax—you’re about to have a good time.” From that moment on, you know you’re in for spectacular service and a night that hits every note just right.
The place hums with life—music, laughter, and an energy so contagious it could power downtown Cincinnati. Then comes the spaghetti and meatball special, and all you can say is “Mamma Mia!” The meatballs are rolling like they’ve got somewhere important to be, and the sauce tastes like it was blessed by an Italian grandmother herself.
But don’t you dare skip the French onion soup. Mon Dieu! It’s like a love story told in flavors—rich, steamy, and perfectly cheesy. The kind of soup that makes your spoon feel like it’s dancing the tango.
Barrel Heads isn’t just dinner—it’s an experience. A high-energy performance where Italy flirts with France, and somehow, you leave grinning like you just got away with something beautiful.

Decided to make the 30 minute drive over to Barrel Heads for lunch. Got there around 1230 and only one other table was seated. We were immediately seated on the patio, it was a gorgeous day. Waitress brought menus and took our drink orders. Drinks arrived a few minutes later. I tried the Blood Orange Sour (was afraid it would be a little too sweet, I’m not a fruity drink person) and was very pleased with the taste. It was not too sweet. It was a larger drink so it filled me up pretty quick but worth trying. Ordered a Barrel Head Bourbon burger and swapped the fries for sweet potato fries (drizzled with carmel) and both were very delicious. We did explore their bar area and they have a very nice bourbon selectionv available. We will definitely stop in again when we are in the area. If you are in the Lawrenceburg, Indiana please stop in and show them your support by having a drink or meal. It will be worth your time.

We made a quick lunch of 2 sharing sized appetizers-brisket potato skins and onion rings. Both were delicious.

Saturday evening, 4p drinks were great, our server and the gal that helped her were friendly and attentive. A couple of us ordered the prime rib, a couple of the ladies ordered pasta and the rest burgers. The prime rib was complete waste. Both were gray and tough despite being ordered medium rare. The ladies pasta was undercooked flavorless and little sauce. The burgers I was told, were good. We had high hopes for this place and the menu looked great. Sadly it appears it’s not going to be the gem we were hoping for. $175.00 and tip lesson.

I had an evening free and was about to hit one of my usual spots when a friend texted me about Barrel Heads—said they had a great pasta dish and solid bourbon selection. I made the detour and headed down Stateline, hopeful and hungry.

As a former chef and bartender with nearly 20 years in the industry, I’d been curious about the place. The photos of the creamy Cajun pasta and drink options sold me. But unfortunately, the experience didn’t live up to the hype.

I arrived around 7pm on a Monday. It wasn’t busy—just a couple tables and a bar guest or two. A young hostess eventually greeted me (after realizing I walked in while seated eating & drinking with presumably family) and I grabbed a seat at the bar. It took about 7 minutes before the bartender even acknowledged me, saying “I’ll be with you in a bit.” No big deal—shift changes happen.

When she returned, she asked in a snappy tone “What do you want to drink?” I wasn’t sure so asked for a menu in which she gave a quick “Beer, wine, liquor?” response. I asked for all the above…. Not the warmest welcome. I ordered an espresso martini and finally got to look through the menus.

The drink selection was impressive, as well as the food, and I settled on the creamy Italian sausage pasta with a Caesar salad.

The salad was decent, though the dressing was minimally dumped on like an afterthought. The pasta, on the other hand, was a severe letdown—overcooked noodles, burnt sausage, no mushrooms, basil, or tomato, and barely any sauce. Bread was stale and crunchy like a bagel chip.

Mistakes happen in the kitchen, I get that. But when the bartender asked (after I pushed the dish aside after two bites & 10mins) if I wanted a to-go box, I shared that I felt the dish missed the mark & didn’t have any mushrooms, tomato’s, basil or heck even sausage that wasn’t burnt…her dismissive reply—“Well, I mean it’s just pasta and sauce”— that sealed the deal. I paid and left, disappointed. I hope to give it another try someday, but the lack of care this time was hard to ignore.

A nice place with plenty of options for everyone. Service was friendly and the food was all good. They have some great side options appreciated all the veggies. Their bbq sauce was a bit different than I usually like but they have a unique more vinegar base I think. Definitely check them out for dinner either indoor or on their patio. They have an impressive liquor selection at the bar also.

I’m not someone who enjoys leaving negative reviews, especially for a place that has been a favorite of mine for the past three years. I tried to chalk up the first not so great visit as a one off, and the second as an “okay” night, but tonight made it clear that things have changed.

Service matters. Our table of four arrived around nine, and the restaurant wasn’t busy. We waited longer than expected for our food, which we didn’t mind at first since we were catching up over a beer. When the food came, we weren’t asked about another round, and our server didn’t check back in until two of us had already finished and the other two were nearly done. By then it was too late to mention that the avocado in my husband’s wrap was rubbery and not edible.

It is disappointing to admit this will be our last visit. I’m simply not impressed anymore. When a place stays open until ten, you still expect the staff to be attentive to the guests who are there. Instead, it felt like most of the team was more focused on chatting with each other than checking on tables. It was unfortunate, because there was a real opportunity to provide better service, make an additional sale, and earn a better tip.

I truly hope things turn around, because this used to be such a great spot.

I will start this review by stating we ate dinner around 7:30 on a Friday, so it was naturally busy. That being said the mix between music and large crowd meant for the remainder of our meal, I could barely hear a thing. The pretzel bites taste less of pretzel, and more of biscuit. I had the ranchero fried chicken sandwich, which I took the avocado off since I already I know I don’t like avocados. The sandwich has a pepper jam, which I was initially hesitant about, but, was actually pretty good. My meal was good, the previously stated sandwich with French fries. I will say the sprite must of had too much of something, as it tasted noticably off. The chairs, in my opinion, were not very comfortable, but I am a larger man so I understand that for anyone of healthy size will probably be fine. I would give it a 3.5/5. The highlight was definitely the staff, as they were very kind, and very professional, despuee obviously being in a rush.
