In town for just a few hours before catching a flight home. We all wanted a good home cooked type breakfast. The reviews were good so we gave it a shot.

It’s nestled in a neighborhood and you feel at home as soon as you walk in. Definitely a hometown diner feel.

The service is great and I wouldn’t be surprised if these waitresses have worked here for 20 or 30 years. They were quick to greet us see us and move us along the dining experience.

I got the two egg combination breakfast plate with biscuit and gravy and grits. Everything was really good. It came out hot and quick and you could tell that the grits and the biscuits were definitely homemade. The gravy had a different taste, but it was just different seasoning and I grew to love it.

Definitely a great place to stop and get a very reasonably priced hot breakfast or lunch.

I really wanted to write a good review. This is my first time eating here. We just bought a house and WALKED from our house to this specific restaurant. When we got here only a large booth was available. We stood in the doorway until a polite waiter came and said for us to sit there. We sat, ordered, got our drinks, were comfortable and ready to enjoy our breakfast. Then a large woman with short dark brown hair, apparently her name is Debbie came up to us and told us we had to move to a table because SHE had a six top and needed that booth. They put us at the next booth covered in filth and did not even bother to wait long enough to clean off the table which would have taken TWO MINUTES TOPS. My food is here and I no longer want it. The opposite of the experience I was expecting. Incredibly disappointed.

Updated to add 15 minutes later and no one has noticed I haven’t touched my food.

It was 1030 on a Sunday morning in October. We needed some brunch. Decided to check out Barksdale. Waited on line about 5 mins for a table, they were really crowded so you know the food had to be good! The waiter promptly took our drink order. I ordered a 2 stack pancakes and an All American. Definitely worth the wait. It was all good but loved the pancakes! Highly recommend this place for breakfast!!

Every time I come to this spot it’s like coming home! The waiters are so kind and make you feel at home. Even the food tastes like grandma’s cooking. I had the griddle cake with scrambled eggs and sausage and all I can say is my lord. The food had me slapping my knee it tasted so good. If you are ever in the area check this place out you will not be disappointed. This landmark just doesn’t disappoint, they hit the mark every time.

FRIENDLY FACES!

First time at this local eatery and it didn’t disappoint. Grabbed breakfast with my father a few weeks ago as he lives nearby. I knew they recently reopened from maybe a fire or other event.

The lance was full but the turnover was quick. There was little to no wait.

We each had the apple pie bowl with oatmeal, apple pieces and spices. It was very good and I was glad to see several healthy options on the menu.

The coffee was fantastic! Kudos to the owner for not going cheap on it.

Christopher did a great job serving us as well. I can’t wait to go back and try something new there.

Service was great! Was seated as soon as we walked in the door.. Our server was nice, and even though he was super busy with other tables, we never felt left out. The atmosphere is classic mom/pop corner restaurant, with older decor and history of the place itself plastered all over the walls.. Cutsie and warm, which is always good these days.. The food itself felt a tad sad unfortunately for the price, as the quality seemed lacking.. The biscuit I ordered had a large biscuit with a meat and cheese on it, and came out on a very small plate.. The biscuit, was dry and hard with little flavor. It literally crumbled apart in my hand as soon as I picked it up. Its like it wasnt from a fresh batch, but maybe made the day before and reheated? Either way, the meat and cheese was the only good part of the biscuit (even though the cheese was still kinda cold). But still, I just ate that part with a fork, and enjoyed time with my friends. Overall, I’ll give it another try. It really could have just been a rough morning for them in the kitchen. I enjoyed the atmosphere enough, that I’d for sure give it another shot. I just won’t be ordering any biscuits next time.

We have been regulars at Barksdale’s for over 20 years. The servers called us by name and always greeted us. The food was good. The service was the best and the atmosphere was welcoming and friendly. In 2024 when they had a kitchen fire and had to close, it was like losing a good friend.
When it was purchased we were elated yet concerned because we knew there would be changes. We were among the first to walk through the door at their soft opening. Deb and Bert greeted us with big hugs and huge smiles. The interior had only changed a bit and still felt like home.
Deb waited on us and we ordered our “regular”–two eggs over medium with toast, bacon/sausage and hash browns…with coffee, of course. There were, of course, some bumps along the way since it was the first day. We expected that. But, when our breakfast was served it came with only one piece of toast. The air went out of my balloon. Who can sop up two fried eggs with one piece of toast? We asked for a second piece not happy that it was an add-on.
Since the service was excellent (as always) and the bacon was cooked perfectly, we knew we would try again another time.
Our second visit was made with a hopeful attitude. Deb was our server again and we got our greeting from Bert as well. Since she told us that they were still only giving one piece of toast, we decided to try something new.
We both ordered omelettes with hash browns and one of their biscuits. Hubby ordered a western omelet which included green peppers. I ordered the veggie omelet without green peppers.
Both omelettes came without green peppers and had unmelted cheese. Both were NOT hot. They tasted bland and looked like they were made from liquid eggs. The biscuits were more like a huge piece of cake rather than a traditional biscuit. I hope they work on that a bit.
As if the bland omelettes weren’t bad enough, they had changed the hash browns to the patties like you get at McDonalds. Not a good choice on their part. (I understand that they have changed back to regular hash browns now!)
If we had not been regulars, and wanting to give everything a chance, that second visit would have been our last–a twofer. Very disappointing.
Yet, wanting to give it a fair chance, today was our third visit. We had one of the new servers, Chris, who was friendly and attentive. The place was packed. It was sooooo loud! Poor Chris had to lean in to hear our order. We could not even talk to each other without shouting.
Hubby ordered the pancakes and I ordered French toast with high hopes. My order came with eggs but he had to order his eggs on the side. My bacon order was also a side add-on.
The French toast was greasy. The pancakes were huge and looked very fluffy, but apparently were not pleasing. His sausage was placed on top of the pancakes since they took up the entire plate. He did not receive his eggs until we asked about them. Both of our eggs were cold.
All was well enough, even with the cold eggs, until I went to pay and said something to the owner who was manning the cash register. I showed her where we had been overcharged for the eggs, having been charged for two side orders. I also asked that she remove the charges for the eggs since they were late and cold.
While she was fixing the ticket, with an attitude, I asked why they don’t give two pieces of toast with their regular breakfasts? Wow! She went off on me. She came back at me with a vengeance and an attitude! She said it was a decision they made for pricing and that I was welcome to buy the extra piece.” I’m embarrassed to say that her attitude set off mine and I told her that was “just wrong” and that “it’s just a piece of bread. You really need to consider changing that.”
Her response was snarky and disrespectfully delivered, “I am NOT going to do that. You have a BLESSED day! A really nice and blessed day,” turning away.
Needless to say, I was taken aback and really pissed by her rude and unnecessary treatment.
I hugged Deb on the way out because I will definitely think again before considering a return visit.
