Under vibrant new ownership, the kitchen in this small establishment produces some of the best food in southern Chittenden County that would be described as elevated bistro fare.
The bar has a rounded selection of local craft beers along with finely crafted cocktails.
Special weekly menu and drink offerings are available.
For some decor would be a drawback; Barkeaters is fashioned as a rustic Adirondack meeting place -white tablecloths would be out of character in this setting. When full, Barkeaters gets happily boisterous. Lastly, the facility would benefit from modest remodeling.

The calamari was meh, felt like I was only eating breading and sauce. Couldn’t actually taste calamari. Came here for the $12 Wed burger night special which included a beer too. For $12 can’t complain as it is a good deal, but wasn’t my fav burger. Didn’t leave an impression on me. For $12 I would rather go to Archie’s down the street and pay $12 for a better burger.

We finally visited this place on a short weekend trip to Burlington. After seeing pictures of the menus and food for the last year, we were not disappointed. The hummus was silky smooth and bursting with flavor and the sea bass was a reasonable portion cooked to a crisp perfection while the risotto it was served with was so rich it would have made an excellent dish on its own.

Great restaurant in Shelburne. The atmosphere is relaxed and decor is like rustic ski lodge / old england Inn. The menu has great options from farm to table fine dining to small plates & appetizers, as well regular pub fare of burgers and sandwiches. My wife loved the seared yellowfin tuna and I had the duck specials which was delicious! Wednesday is burger night and well worth a visit, but note it’s usually pretty busy! Can’t beat $12 for burger and pint!

Good food, poor service. Waitress had a 15 minute personal conversation with table next to us before taking our order. And was very rude. Will not be back.

Really like the feel and trendy rustic ambience of Barkeaters. Food was good. Salmon, corn chowder and dill carrots, great. Cioppino and lava cake okay. Everything was well priced and the staff was quick, friendly, and on top of all the takeouts and tables. Nice perk during the chaos of these times. A lot of regulars were coming and going and chatting with staff, which I found testament to their good food and service. Appreciate and looking forward to trying their multiple veggie options.

We visited Barkeaters this last Wed. and waited about an hour and a half to get our drinks and lunch. The place was maybe 1/3 full, including the outside seating. Another couple seemed to give up waiting for their meal. The floors were grease-saturated rugs and our shoes stuck as we walked on it. The place smelled of old grease. Regardless, we stuck it out because it was recommended by a local. Service was not great, but not awful – we had to ask for our drinks about a half hour after ordering them, during our long wait for food, while others that came in after us were given their drinks. Not once did someone check if we needed anything or needed a refill. The hamburgers, BLT, and Ruben were all very average to below average. The soda was flat and the water was served warm. The fries and the sweet potato fries were good.
The male in our group reported that the bathroom floor didn’t look like it had been cleaned of old misses in a very long time. The women’s room was basically clean.
Definitely not worth a revisit, mainly due to cleanliness. Also, assuming they may have had a bad day and were shorthanded, there just was no attempt to check in with patrons or communicate a long wait. We certainly didn’t expect to stay 2.5 hours in the place to have a mediocre lunch and leave wondering if it would pass a health inspection.
