I recently dined solo at Bar Totti’s in the Sydney CBD. I was seated outside in the alley, which unfortunately meant dealing with quite a bit of noise and disruption from nearby venues.

The food started off strong. The antipasti was delicious, and the pappardelle pasta was rich and perfectly cooked. The kitchen is clearly capable of delivering high quality dishes.

However, the service completely overshadowed the experience. I waited around 20 minutes for the antipasti and then another 45 minutes for the pasta, with no communication about the delays. Dining alone makes you especially aware of timing, and the long gaps made the meal feel unnecessarily dragged out.

The man serving me seemed completely disengaged, with no smile, no interaction, and a very nonchalant attitude throughout. He did not check in once, and when I politely asked if I could move to another table, my request was ignored. Since I was seated outside, drunk partygoers from the club next door were repeatedly catcalling him throughout the afternoon, which created an awkward and chaotic atmosphere. It happened many times and became quite distracting. Regardless of what was happening around him, that should not translate into poor service or dismissive behaviour toward paying customers.

To end the meal, I ordered the tiramisu, which was unfortunately disappointing. It lacked flavour and did not live up to the standard set by the earlier dishes.

I honestly felt invisible the entire time. It is disappointing because there is clearly potential here, but the inconsistent service and underwhelming dessert left a sour final impression

Came to Bar Totti on New Year’s Day because I apparently enjoy controlled chaos. The place was absolutely packed — no booking means you’re gambling on a good hour wait if luck is on your side. That said, once seated it’s surprisingly comfortable and pram-friendly, which feels like a minor miracle given the crowd.

The food? No misses. All the pastas hit, but the fettuccine is the clear standout — rich, silky, and gone before you realise what’s happened.

The bread is mandatory. Not optional. Order it and use it to wipe every last drop of sauce off the plate like a true professional. Add the smoked ling dip and suddenly the table goes quiet — everyone’s too busy scooping.

Despite the New Year madness, service held up well and dishes came out fast enough to erase the wait-time trauma.

Bonus points for sitting outside watching the crowd flow past — honestly not a bad way to spend New Year’s Day with good food and a full table.

Busy, loud, chaotic — and absolutely worth it. Book ahead or bring patience and an appetite.

On my second visit, I had mixed feelings.
The first time, four adults went together. The staff were friendly and the food was great, which is why I decided to come back with my daughters.
Most of the dishes were still good, but while eating the vongole pasta, I kept biting into small pieces of shell. I had to spit them out into a napkin as I ate. I thought to myself that I should never order this menu again, but I didn’t say anything to the staff.
However, when I paid the bill of $137.50 by card, I couldn’t forget the unpleasant look from a young white woman at the counter. It made me feel as if she didn’t like the way my children and I were dressed.

This restaurant was amazing loved the atmosphere, customer service was incredible and food service was fast. Celebrated my birthday here for the first time after hearing great things about this place. Let me tell you they did not disappoint. The wood-fire bread was beautiful soft and crunchy at the same time. Pasta was incredible so much flavour! Would definitely recommend! Would also highly recommend to make a reservation as they do get very busy it’s a popular place!

We came without a reservation around 630pm. You get placed on a waitlist and receive a text when your table is being prepared. Considering that it was a Friday night, we were happy to be seated within 30 minutes. The atmosphere is lively and the service was prompt. We had a bread and a burrata as a starter which is quite a lot when ordering mains too. The bread is priced at $18 + whatever topping you choose which is steep but Considering the location and popularity of the place, it was expected. The pasta itself was okay but nothing too crazy. Overall it was a nice dinner and I would potentially return. I definitely recommend booking in advance if the group is bigger than 2 people as they were booked out for 1 month in advance.

Excellent food. Good service. Popular and loud.

This is what can describe Bar Totti’s.

We went there on a Sunday for lunch, as a family of 8. We had pre-booked so we moved quickly through the queue which forms outside.

We were looked after by Catherine and her colleagues who provided excellent service. The drinks and then the food arrived reasonably quickly.

All the items were very well presented, authentic and delicious. The simplest item – the bread – is a delight to look at, feel with hands and eat!

Vegetarians like us will love the place – there is so much choice of dishes. We chose to share all our dishes within the family.

The drinks were good too – in particular the Melone Fizz I chose.

Between 7 adults, our bill was about $615 including a 10% Sunday surcharge and $5.80 CC surcharge.

I would happily dine here again – specially for a special occasion!

This place is worth the hype. It’s expensive but the food is delicious and you can tell it’s good quality. The chef’s know what they are doing. I didn’t have a reservation. Just walked in on a busy day. The staff really took care of me. Suggested a seat at the bar however I said I wanted to sit outside and the accommodated me. The service was prompt and all the staff were lovely. I would definitely go back here. Perfect for a bit of a treat as it is pricey. I got a fairly simple pasta dish and was so surprised at just how tasty it was!!!

Bar Totti’s is a fantastic spot for a lively night out and consistently great food. The wood-fired bread is the standout—warm, beautifully blistered.

A special mention to Brian, who delivered genuinely exceptional service. He was attentive and friendly. He made the experience well looked after.

The vibe is energetic and fun, though it does get slightly noisy when it’s busy—more “buzzing bar atmosphere” than quiet dinner. If you’re after great food, excellent service, and a lively setting, Bar Totti’s is a great choice.

I was nervous because I heard they weren’t friendly, but that wasn’t the case at all! Since I made a reservation, I didn’t have to wait and was able to go in right away, which was great.

The only downside was that the pasta came out very late. We had already finished all the other food and were about to cancel the pasta and leave, but it came out just in time It was a bit salty, but overall the food tasted really good.

Bar Totti’s is worth every minute of the wait. After a short line-up before opening, we were seated outside with a front-row view of the ever-growing queue and the lively George Street hubbub—an atmosphere that immediately set the tone.
My host ordered a generous selection of antipasto followed by the lamb as our main, and wow—what an experience. Every morsel was melt-in-your-mouth tender and packed with incredible flavour. Simple, confident cooking done exceptionally well.
Definitely one for a return visit. My one tip: make a reservation if you can—this place is popular for very good reason. ️✨
