Bar Roma is a hit! Came here for a date night and had a great time in paroozing the menu while enjoying the atmosphere. They had specials for Valentine’s Day too! I ended up choosing the lasagna with bolognese sauce (you can choose meat or plain red) and it was a hit. A perfect portion size I finished it without any help haha. The chocolate lava cake was decadent and thick and melted on the spoon. Amazing! Staff seemed nice and were quick and attentive and it was a happening place!

I visited Bar Roma on a Sunday afternoon and was immediately welcomed by an inviting and friendly staff. From the moment we walked in, the restaurant felt warm and approachable, setting a relaxed tone for the meal.

The atmosphere stood out with its rustic charm. The space clearly has character, giving the impression of a well-loved restaurant that values comfort just as much as style.

The food lived up to expectations and felt like classic Nonna cooking, comforting, hearty, and full of rich, homemade flavor that made each dish feel thoughtfully prepared.

The waitstaff were kind and accommodating, though service was occasionally slow. It took some effort to get our waitress’s attention, but she servicing multiple tables..

Overall, Bar Roma delivers a strong dining experience with excellent food, a welcoming atmosphere, and a charming rustic setting. Minor service delays aside, it is a place worth visiting, especially for a nice meal.

I had an incredible birthday experience at Bar Roma. We had the best server, and the food was perfect for sharable and individual portions, not to mention big portions and unbelieavly tasty—get the meatball. We had a table to 10+ and the atmosphere allowed us to feel lively and enjoy eachothers company. Can’t recommend this place enough, it was as if I was back in Italy. 10/10

I have been wanting to do here ever since I moved into the area 1.5 years ago. This space was special to me as it has previously been my favorite restaurant in all of Chicago, Atlantique. When that place closed down I was very sad and hoped something great would take its place.
I’m not sure if Bar Roma was the immediate replacement but this was so good!
I went for happy hour as the menu looked pretty damn good. Their full menu looks great as well.

I started with the cocktail special which was very tasty. They brought bread out, which I didn’t expect, and it was amazing! Warm, crunchy crust and so soft. The oil and Parmesan cheese plate was so good!
Then had the meatball which was amazing, very big plate for a happy hour dish.
Then I had the breaded shrimp and this you too was great! I wanted to order the mussels but was already very full.
Had their white wine which was good.
The space is great! Really love what they did with it.
The bartender was very nice.
Definitely will return. Need to try the full menu next time.

I’ve been trying tons of great Italian food, from amazing to pretty good, and this place is good. For us, nothing’s wow accept squid ink fettuccine with very good spicy white wine sauce. This dish is a bomb.

I enjoyed my meal here. The menu is uncomplicated yet diverse. I had the oxtail pasta and an appetizer of fried calamari and shrimp. The meal was tasty and satisfying for what one would want from an Italian cafe at this price point. The patio seating is a wonderful place to sit amongst flowers and greenery on a warm sunny day.

Mixed Experience at Bar Roma

We came to Bar Roma to celebrate my husband’s 40th birthday and were really looking forward to it. The wine selection was great, and the meatballs were truly out of this world—definitely a highlight!

Unfortunately, we were incredibly disappointed with our main dishes. The chicken parmesan was just okay—it lacked flavor and felt quite bland. The biggest letdown was the pappardelle with braised oxtail ragu. While the noodles were cooked perfectly, the oxtail was mostly chunks of fat with little to no actual meat in it, and the dish as a whole lacked seasoning.

In conclusion, if you’re looking for a fun spot with great wine and appetizers, Bar Roma delivers. But if you’re hoping for a full-course dining experience with flavorful entrees, it might not be the best choice.

We checked in this place for our anniversary without reservation on last This night and could get our seat. The food was good and we enjoyed our time there. Staffs was good and the vibe was good too. I’m not a fan of Italian food but can’t say it is not good. I just tried different dish but then thought I had better stick with pasta. I will return for sausages, pasta, and meatballs next time!
