We ordered beef tartar, pate, snails , salad with fennel and chocolate cake for desert.
Service was very nice and attentive. Highly recommend , especially if you are looking for the place dinner before the opera.
Great location. The food was delicious. The best onion soup ever. I love the charcuterie board. Amazing croissant.
REVIEW FROM 2 YEARS AGO: exquisite food: fresh and flavorful. Excellent service.
We visited Bar Boulud before seeing Firebird at the New York City Ballet, which is right next door. It’s a great location for those attending events at Lincoln Center, making it perfect for a pre-show meal or a post-performance drink to celebrate.
The service here is top-notch—attentive and professional, but not stiff or overbearing. The menu features a variety of pâtés and terrines, along with classic French bistro dishes made with great skill and care.
Some of our favorite dishes included:
• La Soupe à l’Oignon Gratinée: This French onion soup was incredible. The broth was rich and flavorful, with perfectly caramelized onions, lots of melted Gruyère cheese, and crispy baguette croutons.
• Le Steak Frites: This classic dish was done perfectly. The steak was cooked just right, and the fries were crispy on the outside and tender inside. The Bordelaise sauce was a nice touch.
• La Salade Niçoise: A fresh, light option to balance the other dishes. The seared tuna was excellent, and the salad had fresh veggies, olives, a perfectly cooked egg, and haricots verts, all tied together with a smooth aïoli.
Overall, Bar Boulud is a wonderful place to enjoy a refined meal in a lively, relaxed setting. It’s an especially great choice for anyone attending events at Lincoln Center. Be sure to make a reservation.
We loved the chicken liver mousse (amazing flavor and it paired really well with the berry jam), the rainbow trout and the passion fruit cheesecake . The Frenchie burger, hazelnut ice cream, raspberry sorbet and winter salad were decent.
– Pate was rich (wish I had more!) and complemented nicely by a well-dressed, albeit small, salad
– escargots were good in the rich buttery sauce and came with good, crusty bread
– trout was cooked perfectly
– the Frenchie burger came out medium as asked but there was too much going on (strong cheese, saucy pork belly) and I wish I could taste the beef more; the fries were great though
I liked the restaurant’s light and airy atmosphere and it was pretty empty on a weekday. If I’m in the area for a concert I’ll definitely stop by again.
The seafood dishes, paté, and dessert were especially amazing and I would come back just for those. Many guests also ordered the steak and frites so I’m definitely ordering that next time. For dessert, I highly recommend the petit four sampler, you won’t be disappointed!
Overall, a really great experience and definitely worth the money.
