After surviving throat cancer, each day and each meal is a challenge…
With that said, Bar-B-Que Chef’s Smokehouse food is consistently “Dammit Janet Good!”, and the atmosphere is always friendly and inviting, and the service is always impeccable!
Miss Heather has always remembered what I’ve been able to eat and what not (that goes along way with me).
I eat there because of the consistent QUALITY food, friendly service, and ‘finger licking after each bite’!
I Pray your taste buds make the right choice too!!!
Blessings, John

Ok before u knock the restaurant based on my review please dont! Im just giving my honest review from someone that isnt local to the area and spends most the summer at the grill cooking. So lets start with the positives. The service was great! So friendly and patient with a new person trying to make up my mind on what to order. And let me preface the negative with the fact I was there 1 hr before closing so that may have been the biggest part of my problem. Bologna was not the greatest until I dipped it in the sauce. And then it was pretty good. My preference with any meat is that it shouldn’t need added sauce to make it taste good. Sausage was good, again the sauce made it better. The mac and cheese was good as far as taste but the noodles were too mushy and the deviled eggs were dry ive never had dry deviled eggs so idk what could cause it but they were dry. The potato salad was flavorful and creamy just not the kind im used to so I wont say it was gross just not for me. The jalapeño poppers were not filled with a cream cheese mixture like I am used to idk what was in it and it had a decent flavor just not at all what I was craving or expecting. Overall if im ever in the area again I will give the place another chance just not so close to closing.

While staying at Lake Whitney we decided to find some good barbecue. This place was the real deal! The potato salad was different than traditional and yet it was delicious. The jalapeno cream corn was the best. The brisket was juicy and tender, jalapeno sausage was delicious. Now I’m a bit of a rib snob (Country Tavern raised), so I tried one of my husband’s. delicious and I highly recommend it all! The owners are awesome and friendly as well. When I’m within a 50 mile radius of Whitney I will definitely be returning! Kudos to you both for a great place to eat.

I read very good reviews and we were excited about trying to find a good bbq place. We ordered the jalapeño peppers, chopped beef and homemade French fries. The chopped beef was very different. It was more like a paste or mush. I would recommend you look at it before you buy. We couldn’t finish it. The homemade French fries were not fried but were cubed potatoes baked. It was disappointing but maybe for someone’s taste.

While vacationing in the area we rode by this place the week before and it had a solid line mid-day Sunday. The following Sunday made it back and wow, so happy we did. Met Robert the owner after the rush. Nice guy, he made us a great plate of just about all the meats, even a taster of the fried baloney.
Spicy jalapeño sausage was my favorite and my wife loved the brisket with sauce. Texas beans, red potato salad, mac & cheese shells, this guy IS a chef!
Nice big tree to sit under, playground for the kids, was a great outdoor country style BBQ Sunday afternoon.

Hoofs’ Down this is one of the best damn BBQ spots I’ve ever had in my life.
This is the type of spot that you’ll still be full and continue to eat cuz it’s good.
The brisket was juicy, flavorful soft and soft, the Bologna also captured the true BBQ taste. Never had BBQ bologna that tasty.
The Mac & Cheese was ouuey Gooey, & cream corn fire..
Chef Rob and his wife are awesome too, they were very welcoming and took pride in their spot, well deserved.

Thursday night was hamburger night. I ordered one with everything on it including cheese. That was one nice juicy burger that I enjoyed each and every bite. I plan on going back on a weekend to try the bbq and I would expect it to be just as good.
