I called to get some ribs, shredded pork, and turkey with green beans, a side salad, and mashed potatoes w/gravy. When I began the order on the phone, the lady asked me for each protein I ordered, “would you like that hot or cold?” In all my years in the restaurant industry, I should’ve realized that when she asked me that it’s obviously all precooked and frozen . I guess it didn’t register at the time. I understand that bbq can’t be made fresh to order, but it can be made fresh for the day. I asked for plastic ware & bbq sauce on the side..She finished taking my order and said, “give us 20-25 minutes to cook that for you.” Sounds good, right? We arrived approximately 30 minutes later. Upon entering there were no employees at the register, but I figured they were busy, so I waited…and waited. About 5 minutes pass & a young woman with glasses asked if she could help me. I told her I was picking up a carryout order and gave her my name. She walked back into the kitchen. At this point, about 5-6 people walked up to cash out. I noticed an uncovered half of a pecan pie just sitting on top of the glass case. About 5 minutes passed & I noticed the lady who was “checking on my order”was waiting on a table, taking orders….? She looked busy, but annoyed & didn’t say a word. Finally, a very sincerely-kind young lady approached and asked if I’ve been helped, after fifteen minutes. I told her that the other girl was supposed to be checking on my order, but hadn’t been back. She kept apologizing about them being crazy busy. I told her to cash out the people who were waiting. She did & apologized to every single person. Finally, she was able to get my order. I added 2 creme horns to the now, $50 order. I noticed there were no utensils and she went to get me some.
We get home and took a look at our food…. I went to taste the turkey and it shredded in my hand. It was so dry I wasn’t able to swallow it. AWFUL. No seasoning or smoke at all. Ribs were horribly dry and had a line of yellow sauce on them. The pork wasn’t AS DRY as the rest, but zero flavor or seasoning. The green beans tasted like a tin can..no seasoning. My husband’s mashed potatoes & gravy were both in clear plastic to go ramekins (approximately 6oz guess…see picture) and melted in the microwave. He said they were tasteless. We put the turkey in some gravy to hopefully rehydrate/revive the meat so it was at least edible. NOPE! She didn’t give us any bbq sauce. I was able to season & save the half shredded half sliced pork shoulder. The “salad” was made up of torn iceberg, 2 cherry tomatoes, and cheese.
I really thought they probably had an off day, but it’s inexcusable. We will NEVER be back. We threw it all away, as it was inedible.
Almost forgot to mention the Cream Horns: they are to die for.
We finally made it to the Bar-B-Q Barn. It has been on our list for a while now and after an afternoon of antiquing in the area we saw that they were open and had to stop in.
I decided on the Hot “Brisket” Brown plate. It is an open faced sandwich with bread, meat, mashed potatoes and brown gravy. I love Brisket, it had fantastic flavor. We shared an order of onion rings. My husband had a rack of ribs cooked perfectly, moist and tender, great flavor. He also had the potato salad which was delicious. The baked beans, neither of us a fan, too much of a ketchup flavor. Someone else may love them.
We had great service. A place we will definitely revisit. Highly recommend the ribs and brisket
The coffee was awesome
And The staff very helpful and friendly.
I did send the hash browns back as they were still fridge cool and not a single bit was crispy.
The 3 meat omelet was packed with ham, sausage and bacon very good. So we’re the Belgium waffles
Now they have stopped making it.
Myself and several others used to make it a point to stop in there specifically for their mozzarella sticks and meat sauce.
Unfortunately, we won’t be stopping there anymore.
