Small mom& pop restaurant. Very 廣東 台山 Cantonese Taishan family style menu for lunch and dinner. Their chicken rice is delicious, juicy tender brown chicken, fragrant rice, just not very Hainan style but I will order again. Their curry pork chop rice, the curry sauce was very yummy unfortunately the fried pork chop was very dry inside. Want to love it so much because the fry job was done right but the meat was too dry. We also order the Chinese sausage salty egg meat Pattie on rice 台山臘腸鹹蛋肉餅飯. That was delicious! They can accommodate bigger group (6+) but best to call ahead. Easier for 1-4 person. There is a free small parking lot on the side and street parking. Even though I gave it 4-star (cuz of the pork chop), I would definitely return to try other items. Very authentic regional Chinese food.

Made a literal U-turn to check this place out for lunch and I’m so glad I did! The food was incredibly fresh and the flavors were spot-on authentic Cantonese. Truly a lucky find. If you’re passing through, don’t miss it

My lost your gain. They call it Hainan Chicken but it’s just plain cooked Chicken with Ginger sauce, this isn’t Hong Kong style, but even the soup tasted plain .
I hope they improve their ingredients.

Bao Kee Cafe in Southern El Monte is a family owned restaurant that serves Taishan cuisine ( a variation of Cantonese food). Their herbal soups are fantastic and popular with patrons.

Although the menu is small, each dish has its own uniqueness. we ordered a shredded meat fried rice noodle and pig’s ear in chili sauce when we visited the restaurant recently. The noodle was tasty and full of wok hei but it could have added a bit more seasoning. For a group of more than 4, they have set meals with good price starting at $50. the restaurant is small and it only has 5 tables , so it’s best to call ahead to make a reservation or be prepared to wait for a table during peak hours. The interior of the restaurant is simple and cozy, with a few decorations that give it a homely feel.

In terms of the food, the shredded meat fried rice noodle is a must-try dish that combines the savory flavors of the meat with the satisfying texture of the noodles. The pig’s ear in chili sauce is a bold and spicy dish that is perfect for those who like to try new and exciting flavors. The herbal soups are also a standout item on the menu, offering a warm and comforting option that’s perfect for colder days.

Overall, Bao Kee Cafe is a great option for those looking for authentic Taishan cuisine in the Southern El Monte area. With its friendly service, delicious food, and reasonable prices, it’s easy to see why it’s a popular spot for locals and visitors alike.

A very bad experience. The waitstaff had a terrible attitude, repeatedly rushing us to order and then repeatedly rushing us to pay the bill. One elderly female server touched our food with her hands while packing it, and she was constantly sitting in the middle of the restaurant playing on her phone loudly. The environment was very basic and felt very neglected.
