Very fresh and handmade food including the dumplings and noodles.very fast service, and they bring you water without asking the dumplings and soup were all very delicious and the portion sizes are large. The place is really clean, and close to the museum. Definitely recommend!

I really enjoyed the food here, we tried 3 types of dumplings and two entrees. We were pretty satisfied with all of the food. I was not thrilled with the creme brulee bubble tea though, it was just okay. My only complaint is that the service was odd, the dishes came out all at separate times very spaced apart which was really weird. My boyfriend got his curry like 20 minutes apart from any of our shared food and my entree.

I ordered BAO for takeout recently (so this review might not be applicable to the dine-in experience).

– Pork buns: just pretty dry and bland throughout (both bun and filling). Price point of $14 for just 5 buns felt rather high.

– Stir fried udon (I got pork): overall just really oily. The noodles had a decent texture and the pork was fine, but the overall greasiness made the flavour of everything (noodles, pork, veggies) all kind of taste the same.

– Taiwan sausage fried rice: at least there was one good thing that we ordered haha. Pretty average fried rice; a little oily, but nothing like the udon. I’d be OK with ordering this again if I came back.

Overall, not a stellar experience, and I don’t think it’s just my own high standards for Taiwanese food here. Maybe we just didn’t order the best dishes here…

The noodles here are always really flavorful and the portions are good! Bao is a really great spot to sit down and grab food quickly after classes or work!

This has nice modern Asian cuisine. The atmosphere is modern, clean and delightful. The service is great and so is the food. I had the crab and tofu soup. I really found this to be a great dish and everybody in our party was happy. I would go there again anytime and it’s located on a strip in Oakland where there are lots of choices for food.

Smile Generating Meals that will leave you full and completely satisfied.

From presentation to taste, this is one of the
Most enjoyable meals I’ve had in a long time.

The pancake appetizer is a meal in itself and tastes phenomenal. Everything is fresh and very high quality.

Kind staff and fast service.

The food was fantastic.
The servings were very generous.
The Bao and dumplings are the best other than from Hang Ah in San Francisco.
The best Bao that I have had in 45 years.
The restaurant is spotless.
I HIGHLY recommend this restaurant.

I loved Bao for many years, but in the recent months it has been pretty bad.

I went in August and ordered some shrimp dumplings, which were completely raw, grey, and cold on the inside. I took this to a worker and they immediately made me something different.

My friends just went a few hours ago, and one started throwing up and another is experiencing bowel issues. I’m not sure what is going on, but the quality has really gone downhill.

I would not go anymore. Don’t risk the food poisoning. Its a shame because I used to really like them.

I recommend trying the pork soup dumplings and the water celery with tofu.
I do NOT recommend the basil chicken, as it has too many bones, making it difficult to eat, and it doesn’t have much meat.
Grapes fruit tea with milky foam is was alright 2.5/5. It was too plain, and the milky foam is not as good as other places.

A classic in Pittsburgh, food is great but it falls short of amazing. I felt uncomfortable by the end of it, but it was just bad luck for the day because I’ve been here before and it didn’t happen. The service was questionable, there was barely anyone in the restaurant and yet it took around 10 min after calling the server to come to our table. Food showed up either extremely early or extremely late, I finished my food before the next person got theirs. The matcha barley even tasted like matcha. I believe it was just a bad day, but consistency is what matters.
