I will be back and recommend other s to try it too.
It’s located on a corner which is convenient so you can get in and out quick (if needed). They have accessible parking and entry. The decor was nothing fancy but it fit the venue. GA decor and cute black, red and yellow diner feel. Its a chill spot. Come grab a bite then head on over to the Trap Muzik Museum (that’s what we did).
I always check reviews before I go anywhere and this was no different (even though I love me some TI). Reviews said they updated the menu so I came in knowing that the menu wasn’t as large as before, but more tailored. They also didn’t like the fries, but the review a few days before we went said it was fixed. And Damoni posted a video talking to sis about fixing the mac n cheese so we know that was corrected!
Being that it’s a seafood restaurant and I don’t eat seafood (but I wanted to support), I was limited to the chicken wings and fries. One friend ordered the fish and shrimp basket and another due to their diet couldn’t have meat or fish so she got the coleslaw and dirty rice.
This is where things started going left. I asked about slaw bc some are more creamy vs tangy. I was able to sample some and mine was a purple slaw and very watery tasting with no flavors. My friend’s came out and was a different color and batch all together. Hers was a little better, but it was still missing something, maybe salt or an ingredient with a stronger flavor to it. The dirty rice was flavored well but had a different texture to it. The manager told us it was jasmine rice, but it had a quinoa feel and look to it. My friend who ordered the basket said her food wasn’t good at all. She didn’t finish the shrimp, fish or hushpuppy. She said the shrimp wasn’t cooked or battered right and it tasted like everything was cooked using the same batter and grease. When she broke a piece off her fish, it didnt look light and flaky like I’ve seen on other fish, but maybe it’s because of the kind she ordered ♀️
I will say, my wings were a bit small but it’s a kids meal, and the taste was good. I ordered the lemon pepper. It was a dry rub but tasted like they used fresh lemon juice. The flavor wasn’t over powering, wings were cooked crispy but not overly fried. And they fixed the concerns with the fries because they were crisp and seasoned well. Now I didn’t appreciate being asked if I wanted ranch or blue cheese as if it came with the kids meal, then being charged for it. I don’t eat either so had the disclaimer been made, I wouldn’t have got it.
To drink, my friend’s had the bottled water. Kudos for them having locally (Norcross, GA) bottled water. Since their soda machine was out. Now on to my drink… Bar had a nice selection of signature drinks. I ordered the Westsidecar Passion that comes with cognac, but I was charged an additional fee for Henny. Again, the problem isn’t the extra charges, it’s the staff not telling the customer that there’s an additional fee for an item they didn’t request. The gratuity and service charges are shown on the menu.
The staff provided southern hospitality when we placed our orders, but it would’ve been nice if someone had come back out and checked on us after they gave us our orders.
The restaurant wasn’t crowded at all. It was a couple in front of us and a couple at the bar. We didn’t check out the upstairs patio due to the cold weather, but they had an outdoor seating area at the front and we could see that heat lamps were upstairs.
The service wasn’t bad, but overall, I’m disappointed. On social media, TI was asking Damoni how much money they made while he was out of town. It feels like this restaurant is just another source of income for them and not the establishment that “reflects the passion and vision of the founder” as they state on the menu.
And it would really be nice if they had just a veggie platter option versus à la cart.
I love the hush puppies!! Tasty &! Crispy!
Music volume was just right.
Now, Ti and Killer Mike have bought the place. It is an upscale Bankhead Seafood with the fixin’s. We sat down inside and ordered 2-piece fried Catfish, 6-piece shrimp, 2 hush puppies, fries and Cole slaw. I could not finish it all. When I tell you they did their thang, they did their thang! Way come back to where I first fell in love with Atlanta, the AUC and soul food eating! You can not beat their great customer service. The soothe sways of R & B playing in the background is a perfect trendy atmosphere. True Atlanta feels. Check them out. It will not disappoint. C’Lena the server took really good care of us. She is the bomb!
I like the new look and it’s amenities. I must say parking was a challenge, so we came back on a Saturday early noon to find a parking spot. I did enjoy the fish plate with hush puppies and an order of shrimp. The fish was a bit salty but was good. I don’t think it is the same taste as the original establishment. However, I was happy to support these Black Brothers.. BTW. The Margarita was exceptional, I had x2 of those. The prices are decent across the board in my opinion plus I met a few good folks with great vibes .Lastly Taylor was great, she took my order.
Im happy you to see BANKHEAD SEAFOOD Still LIVES!!!
I’ll be back to show support
