We were also enticed by the pandan one and gave that a try. It’s a very subtle difference but you can definitely taste the aroma of the pandan.
Lots of veggies which we really appreciate, some places really skimp out on that but this place doesn’t.
A light and delicious meal. Food was good, service was extremely fast. No complaints.
There are 2 types of Banh Khot if you don’t know; and I don’t quite like the presentation of this one. One more thing that make me feel uncomfortable was the temperature of the foods; it’s like they are pre-made and just being reheated when ordered. All the meals were cold down when it came to our table.
Appreciated the quick and friendly service. It could be fun to hangout with friends and family here to share the foods. But should consider if you’re a picky eater like me.
Lately, we’ve been getting the (B1) Bánh Xèo (shrimp, pork, squid) and (C7) Bún riêu ốc (thin rice vermicelli crab paste and snail soup).
The Bánh Xèo was fresh and crispy. The side of leafy greens and vietnamese herbs are plenty. However, the Bánh Xèo itself could use a little bit more protein inside. Also, a handful of Thai chillis on the side would be awesome.
We noticed that when you order 2 Bánh Xèo, they give you a single plate of leafy greens and herbs. We prefer to have our individual plate of veggies.
The Bún riêu ốc is OK. The crab meatball is tasty but could be softer. Pho Kim Long makes this soup better but we don’t like how Pho Kim Long is now stingy with their Sriracha and Hoisin sauce.
When the food arrived, the experience was very disappointing. The chicken pho was uncooked, with chicken skin still on it, and it had a very bad smell, like the chicken was expired. The bánh xèo also smelled bad, and the vegetables inside tasted and smelled like they had been sitting for days.
We only took one bite because the food was clearly not edible. When I complained, instead of handling it professionally, the staff took our food tray and showed it to other customers, as if trying to make it look like we were lying. That was extremely unprofessional and embarrassing.
Despite not eating the food, we were charged full price.
This was a very disappointing experience due to poor food quality, lack of professionalism, and bad customer service. I would not recommend eating here, especially close to closing time will be calling department to check this restaurant for serving bad food
June 2025 update:
Been here many, times since my first review. I’ve come to really enjoy the crepe dish. And I’ve never seen it anywhere else. Perhaps they could add a tad more meat ands less bean sprouts to improve the dish. But I still feel healthy eating the huge lattice and veggies basket that comes with it. Spring rolls are ok, Shaking beef of very good but pricey. Pho hits the spot but it’s not legendary. But I added a star to make it 4.
This is another comfort food for me that reminds me of mom’s cooking. I have not had Banh Xeo in many years, so this was a welcome treat.
The restaurant has other food on the menu (Pho, various rice dishes, etc.), but the specialty is Banh Xeo.
The Banh Xeo was crispy! The way it should be. The filings of bean sprouts, shrimps, and pork were cooked just right.
I normally eat the Banh Xeo as is
with nuoc cham (aka fish sauce). I was told to try wrapping the Bang Xeo with the vegetables in the rice paper to make a spring roll. This was new and very good. Different style of eating, but very good.
The restaurant is as I expected for a small Vietnamese restaurant in a shopping center. People were nice enough. Food was prepared and served expedient.
Worth the trip from San Fran to San Jose for Banh Xeo? Sure. I would do it again.
