Everything was oil-soaked. The shrimp was not deveined, and was overfried to the point of being rubbery. The poop chute actually exploded into the batter on many, making it grossly gray.
Also had boneless pork ribs, and broccoli chicken. The ribs did have a bit of flavor, but seriously jerky-like. Not at all tender like what one usually gets in an Asian-American environment. Maybe in Asia they are like this?
The broccoli chicken was bland to the point of simply being steamed broccoli and chicken. No Asian flavor profile at all.
We gifted my mother some crab rangoon, her absolute favorite. She was less than excited. I think she’ll toss what’s left when she thinks we won’t notice. (Honestly, I would.)
And, for what it’s worth, I rarely give critical reviews. Especially after only one visit. Any place can have a bad day. But given other reviews have noted the exact same issues we experienced, I feel obligated to reiterate before someone else takes the same chance and also regrets spending $60.
My husband had the sesame chicken dinner special. He was extremely pleased with his dinner! I had a taste. It was flavorful and not too sweet, large chunks of chicken. Just right! Large portions! I had the sauteed vegetable and chicken dinner special. Again absolutely delicious and full of good veggies and white breast meat chicken! The hot and sour soup was the best I’ve had in years! A generous bowl, loaded with various mushrooms and tofu and not too spicy. Just right! The eggroll was light and crispy! Service was excellent! My husband ordered a Coke. The server brought a can of Coke, with a glass of ice to the table, where she opened the can in front of him and poured some into his glass. She left the can for him to drink the rest of it when he finished the glass she poured. Even the regular dinner menus were of the quality you would expect in a high-end restaurant. Numerous dinner specials were on a separate, laminated sheet.
We will definitely go back. We were so happy with our dinner experience! Definitely quality food! We needed a good, sit-down Chinese restaurant here in PSL and now we have one! Conveniently located on the corner of US1 and Village Green Dr. behind the 7 Eleven. Open 7 days a week!
The staff was welcoming, the interior was bright and clean with an “East Asia meets Bistro” decor Gentle, East-Asian contemporary music, based on regional classics, played in the background, lending to the atmosphere.
The menu, both lunch and dinner versions, is not the “giant, endless” menu, but a concise set of thoughtful selections, from standards like Lo mein, and also Asian fusion, like the Curry Prawns my husband ordered (and which were not mere heat, but intense flavor).
Vegetarians and Vegans – there’s not a menu section for us, but true to East Asian style, ask the waitstaff about options. They always have them and are happy to offer options and make useful suggestions.
Our waiter did that for me, careful to point out that their standard fried rice contains pork, and he then judiciously steered me towards plain rice to go with my order.
The Egg Foo Young I got was plentiful, packed with fresh, good quality vegetables we don’t often see in that dish: broccoli flowerettes, white onion, scallion, and water chestnut. A delicious combo smothered in thick, tasty, onion-based gravy.
Be aware that the beverage selection comes in sealed bottles from national brands and is served with a glass and ice.
If you enjoy expertly prepared Chinese-American standards and innovative Asian bistro selections, this is for you!
P.S. Meals are served with standard American-style table cutlery, but chopsticks are likely available on request.
