Delicious home-cooked breakfast… made with love by hardworking owner!
She puts in the LOVE! Also had a yummy latte! She has frozen meals available to take home. This gal is doing a lot of things right!

This place was pretty decent overall. We were seated quickly and ordered coffee and food. The cappuccino I got was so-so, mostly because it didn’t have much foam, so it felt more like a latte (not a big deal). The eggs Benedict was delicious, and I would order that again! We also got a breakfast burrito, but it was given to someone else by mistake. We had to wait quite a bit to get it, but we were not charged for it, which was appreciated. The burrito also tasted great! We tried a couple cinnamon rolls, which were a bit too sweet and didn’t have much flavor, in our opinion. Overall, pretty good and we would love to come back!

We were the only patrons in there this morning at 9:00 am. Food was amazing. We had the corned beef hash and eggs benedict with hash browns. Waitress greeted us with a small and small talk. If I had to say anything negative it would that we had to ask for coffee and tea refills. Space appeared clean. Prices are a little higher, but not unexpected from a small business making fresh or made from scratch meals. We are contemplating returning tomorrow for breakfast to try something different.
They also have some frozen ready to heat meals to go which are a great option if you don’t want to go all out grocery shopping.

I’ve read through many of the negative reviews. We had the opposite experience as we had a great interaction with our waitress.

Absolutely delicious! The carmel roll was decadent, best homemade corned beef hash ever! The pancakes, biscuits, country fried steak, we were all raving. And such a friendly cozy atmosphere. We’ll be back!!

Probably the best country fried steak I’ve ever had. Made from scratch and absolutely delicious. Eggs and hashbrowns were great too.

Service was good and friendly, although they did apologize in advance that they were short staffed. The wait ended up being not too long. The interior and upholstery of the restaurant was in pretty bad shape, but maybe some guests will think it adds to the charm.

All in all, great breakfast experience. Will definitely return next time we’re by Balsam Lake.

Taking a needed break…I finally got out to enjoy breakfast at a local place! Love the atmosphere with the outdoor patio area that is dog friendly and also live music at 11a! Street side has a portable fire pit which looks like it would be fun to sit n have a drink by it!

Tried the Cinnamon french toast special which has a custardy texture to it for appetizer. Followed by corned beef hash (w/o toast) and traditional eggs benedict (w/o english muffin).

All of it was delicious! You can’t go wrong eating here!

Shout out to Hannah (our server) and all the crew – very friendly service and food arrived hot n fresh!

Lake life!

The BLC atmosphere was not appetizing: grimey looking floors, outdated and unattractive decor, 1/2 of wall has dense blue paint, separated from the upper half with semi-attached rope, etc. Try to guess what color the original floor tiles were.
The food was very poorly prepared, unappetizing and sickening. My omlet and its filling had an aftertaste that haunted me for several hours after lunch. My wife’s meal was just as bad. We finally found some icecream (elsewhere) to settle our stomachs.
There are some good restaurants in Balsam Lake. The BLC is not one of them.

Balsam Lake Cafe is a clean, cozy, family run restaurant. The chai latte was very good and the french toast made out of cinnamon fritter bread was heavy and pudding cake-like with syrup soaked in. The cinnamon rolls were a bit dry. A hard-working son in the kitchen exercised patience with his mom’s chastisement, this is a family business.
