I ordered the Green Chili Gobi Fry for $14, and while the flavors were okay, the portion size was incredibly disappointing. For that price, I expected a full appetizer portion, but what I received was very small—barely enough to share or even satisfy as a side. I enjoy the food at Balaji Mess, but the value for money on this specific dish just isn’t there. Hopefully, they can adjust the portion sizes to match the price point.

Be careful — the US might invade Balaji Mess’s breakfast buffet for excessive oil reserves.
The first batch of vada was decent. Chutneys weren’t fresh, sambar wasn’t fresh, and we had to wait for almost everything. Dosa was just okay. Puri was soaked in oil — at least an extra teaspoon. Idli wasn’t hot. Chai was good.
Most items felt frozen, thawed, and served.
The non-veg breakfast thali is a joke — tiny portions only if you ask, and even that wasn’t fresh at all. Yes, it’s around $13.99, but it still didn’t feel worth it. We’ve had their thalis and other items before and those were good, which makes this breakfast even more disappointing.

Very nice food! The chicken parrotta combo meal is more than enough for 2 people and the chicken pepper soup was a banger!

Join them on Whatsapp or IG for info on their events and promotions. Looks like they have a regular weekend breakfast (9-11AM) and lunch thali buffet. Food isn’t too spicy but also full of flavor. Quiet atmosphere!

Woah! Very good meals! And it’s unlimited. Taste is great! But all this managed by just two folks who are doing great to keep the food flowing!

We had the unlimited breakfast today morning and the food was delicious. They served a lot of items pongal, upma, puri, dosa, idli, kesari. Good value for money and the food is fresh. Loved it.

The staff was very pleasant. Definitely a go to spot for south Indian breakfast. For non veg palate they surprisingly they also served fish and chicken curry for breakfast.

They have a lunch thali that I now look forward to after tasting their chicken curry. So more to come 🙂

I was extremely disappointed with the “Ambur Biryani” served here. It was nowhere close to Ambur Biryani in taste, style, or recipe. This wasn’t a small variation, it felt like a completely different biryani being passed off under the Ambur Biryani name.

Just using Seeraga Samba rice does not make it Ambur Biryani. The style of cooking, spice balance, technique, and overall recipe are what define a regional dish, not just the rice.

If a dish does not follow that style at all, it feels misleading to customers. More importantly, using a regional name without respecting the actual style and recipe feels like misrepresenting a culinary identity and passing off a false identity of the dish.

Restaurants can create their own biryani and use creative names, and that’s completely fine. But when you use the name of a specific regional dish, there should be some honesty and responsibility in representing what it truly is.

If you are looking for anything close to Ambur Biryani, this is not the place. On top of that, the biryani that was served was also below average in overall taste and quality. Their Chicken 65 was also so bad that we had to send it back to the kitchen for a replacement because it was under-seasoned and missing salt.

Tried their veg and non-veg thali and really enjoyed the authentic South Indian flavors. Everything in the thali tasted fresh, homely, and well-balanced.

The highlight was definitely the biryanis – the jackfruit biryani and the Ambur biryani.

Balagi Mess Dosa was filling and tasty. The dosas were perfectly cooked with crispy edges. The folded dosa stayed crisp on the top side and was soft and moist on the bottom side. The medium spicy biryani was just the right spiciness for my heat-loving husband. Will be back again!
