If you’re looking for a place with real, traditional Mexican food, Baja Mexico Cuisine in Hoboken is the spot. Honestly, when people say “hidden gem,” this is exactly what they mean. I don’t know how more people aren’t talking about this place — it’s truly amazing!
The food? Next level. You get both quality and quantity, every single dish was spectacular. The service was top-notch — the manager, the waiters, and Chef Margarito were all incredible. And the drinks? Perfect. Everything was just excellent from start to finish.

A Mexican bar that calls the cops on its own customers.
We sat at the bar and were told margaritas were $6 plus $1 for flavor. But the moment we stepped outside to the patio, the price suddenly doubled to $14 each—because, according to the manager, the “special” was only at the bar.
When we questioned the charge, the white manager came out and said, “the waitress told me you’re only not trying to pay your bill,” and before she even made it back into the restaurant she was already on the phone with the cops. No attempt to ask what happened, no effort at customer service—just straight to 911.
The bartender later admitted the mistake and fixed the bill, but the fact remains: management’s first instinct was to criminalize paying customers. That’s not just bad service—it’s reckless, dangerous, and insulting. If you’re a person of color, think twice before walking in here.

We were pleasantly surprised. Took dad out for his bday and he can be a picky eater. He enjoyed his salmon and raved that it was good.

The service here was surprisingly slow on a Friday night. It took about 20 minutes to get our drinks and then another 40 minutes to get our food. The tables are also pretty close together so there wasn’t much room to move around. The chips were inconsistent, with some of them being soft/soggy. The steak, rice, and guacamole are all incredible here. The chicken was pretty good, but I liked the steak better. The shrimp needed more seasoning. Portion sizes are very large here and the drinks were tasty. Overall, there are some great options but I wish the service was faster.

This restaurant absolutely deserves five stars! We got a couple rounds of margaritas and they were on point. The staff was attentive and genuinely kind, making us feel like valued guests. I’ll definitely be coming back. They had options for all the members of my family, even my kids who are quite picky. If you have the opportunity to try this restaurant, you definitely should.

I cannot emphasize enough how great this place is! My bf and I went on a Monday night. It wasn’t busy. We were the second table in there. They first serve you with fresh cooked tortilla chips and salsa. The chips were still warm both times when we asked for seconds. We order house margaritas, one mango and the other, passion fruit. Both are also great. My boyfriend ordered steak fajitas and I ordered Baja steak tacos. We were both mind blown! The seasoning on the steaks are just TO DIE FOR! As much as we tried to continue savoring all that flavor, we were already so stuffed! As much as prices go, I think it is worth it! I totally recommend trying it out!!

Love this place! My favorite Mexican restaurant, let start with this that everything is frash, They are making everything on the spot. The nachos with the salsa is the best super fresh, the nachos they make themselves no store buy, and also for the salsa. The food is delicious and let’s talk about the amazing margaritas!! You don’t want to miss that!
