Quite possibly my favorite place to go in the Syracuse, NY area. Balliwick Market is a family owned and operated restaurant, artisan gift shop, destination for receptions, “you pick” sunflowers (in alternating seasons), and host for special events. They even offer horse drawn carriage rides in the wintertime. The inside is always seasonally decorated and the meals are delicious. They also serve my favorite coffee brand, Cafe Kubal. We make a special trip every year to buy the maple syrup sugar and just enjoy the visit.

When I visited (on a Saturday) there was a lady with a beautiful voice singing live.

The place is cute, although it felt crowded with tables which made kind of difficult to walk around with the tray once I picked up my food at the counter. There is also a nice area to sit outside.

As for the burger, it was pricey and not worth it!

A bit pricey and the kid’s pizza is clearly just the Costco mini pizzas, but it’s largely a lovely place. They have Jets stuff too, which is a nice added bonus.

Friendly helpful staff. Lots of gluten free options. I have the gluten free quiche. Ive also had the gluten free breakfast sammy. The seasoned potatoes are delish. I enjoy meeting up with friends and having my hot beverage in those Big ceramic mugs. Cozy and casual. Ive only been for breakfast. It is an order and seat yourself.

Went here for my birthday lunch and was very pleased with how they run here. You sit yourself, grab a menu at the counter, and when you’re done you go up and place your order. They then give you a buzzer with your number that goes off when your food is ready to go up and grab. The atmosphere here wasn’t too loud and gave a cozy rustic farmhouse vibe, and seems to be very popular among the older generation. They had little decorations and baking stuff for sale around the cafe as well as some pet treats and other small essentials. The food here was very filling with good potion sizes, and their ice cream and milkshakes made a delicious end to my visit here. Will definitely be returning again in the future.

Great place for a relaxing Breakfast or Lunch. Specials are always great, some of the freshest food you will ever have.

Just back from another visit to our favorite lunch place around the upper Finger Lakes area, Baliwick Cafe. Have to say their “church supper specials” are great deals, and one should become a “regular” menu item, they have a great garbage plate, from the home fries, to the mac salad & meat sauce. It was huge, had to take 1/2 home, and the first time I’ve ever had one wirh a hard boiled egg garnish.

Ill be watching for this special next month.

Came for lunch with a friend. Was very cozy. We seated ourselves and ordered at the counter. We were given a buzzer to pick up food when ready. Food was delicious- we both had a chicken quesadilla with sweet potato fries. Will definitely come again!

5-1-24 went here again been here alot. Not sure what is going on with the chicken pot pie. It has gone WAY down hill. You used to get a entire piece of crust over it. It had a good flavor to it. Ordered it again the crust was very small . Like the size of a small tangerine. Also the chicken pot pie had no flavor to it. Almost took a star of because of it. However everything else they offer is good so I’m not. I DO NOT recommend the chicken pot pie though. It’s not good anymore…..2-9-24 went here again. Ordered the fish fry dinner and a cup of clam chowder. My friend ordered the salmon. Both were really good…,……….Have been here several different times now. They always have amazing food and service. Ordered the chefs special prime rib sandwich today. Also ordered a bowl of clam chowder, kids Mac and cheese with fries. A chicken pot pie with a cup of clam chowder. For drinks we had blood orange tea, matcha on ice and a chi latte. Everything was delicious. They source most things local which I like. Definitely recommend checking this place out. They serve homemade baked goods and ice cream aswell.

Individuals with allergies beware. This establishment sells pints of ice cream with zero labeling which is a violation of law (see below). Young kids working who had no clue what is even in the ice cream and printed sheets do not include all varieties. Consumers need to count on a business to take this seriously and be responsible. Onondaga Food Protection Unit to be notified.

What the label must include

For foods in package form, New York adopts the federal labeling rules. That means each pint needs:
• Identity of the food (e.g., “Ice Cream – Chocolate”)
• Ingredient list in descending order by weight
• Major allergen disclosure (milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, soy, wheat, fish, shellfish, sesame)
• Net quantity (e.g., “1 pint (473 mL)”)
• Name & address of the manufacturer/packer/distributor.

New York’s Dept. of Agriculture & Markets explicitly points to these “five basic label requirements,” and Part 259 of the NY regulations adopts the federal (21 CFR) food labeling framework.

Ice-cream-specific notes

There are some dairy‐product labeling nuances (e.g., how certain colors or additives are declared), but they don’t remove the core requirement to label packaged pints and to disclose major allergens.
