Unassuming & intimate Thai eatery dishing up spicy curries & stir-fries on disposable plates.

I really enjoyed the lunch I had here in late October of 2025. The staff were incredibly warm and friendly. The food felt fresh and packed a lot of flavor. Overall, I have zero complaints and would come back in the future.

Unfortunately, this was a disappointing experience overall. I accidentally ordered Pad Thai instead of Pad See Ew after seeing a review that incorrectly labeled the dish. When I went back, the woman let me know about the mistake. I asked if it was possible to at least add extra sauce to make it closer to Pad See Ew, since the Pad Thai was extremely plain to the point that it was hard to eat.
I truly thought they might offer to switch it to what I originally intended to order, especially considering I spent almost $70, but I did appreciate that they offered to add sauce instead. However, once I got to my car and actually looked at the food, I realized there were only about three tiny pieces of shrimp and a few pieces of chicken, the rest was mostly noodles. I was also charged $7 extra for those three pieces of shrimp, which felt unreasonable given the portion size.
My mom and I ended up eating just the few pieces of chicken and shrimp and throwing the rest away, which felt awful to do, but the dish was that plain and unsatisfying. We then had to go buy food elsewhere. Overall, it felt like very poor value for the price, and honestly left us feeling disappointed.
On a positive note, the Thai tea was good that was the one thing we enjoyed.

Saw this had a ton of great reviews and heard about this place in the past so we chose to order it on Doordash. We ordered a ton of food: Pad Thai (Rice Noodles, Bean Sprouts, Scallions, Red Onions, Peanuts), Pad See Ew (Broad Rice Noodles, Chinese Broccoli, American Broccoli with Soy Sauce), Yellow Curry (Potatoes, Onions, Bell Peppers, Carrots with Coconut Milk), Roasted Duck Curry (Roasted Duck, Tomatoes, Sweet Peppers, Pineapples, Basil Leaves, Red Curry Paste in Coconut Milk) and Black Rice Pudding (Black Jasmine Rice Drizzled with Coconut Milk) for dinner. EVERYTHING WAS REALLY GOOD! You cannot go wrong at this place. I do have to say the Pad Thai was a bit sugary but it was for the better.

This is a dinner that we bought for to go “pad thai”and I can’t even eat because it’s full of chili seeds. So disappointed l will never recommend this type of food, who do you think wants a dinner of a thousand seeds mixed with noodles which is not written on the menu. And the firecracker chicken we got has also a very long hair, so nasty.

We wanted to try a Thai spot while in San Diego and went with Bahn Thai—the 4.7 rating caught our eye. The place is tiny with no indoor seating, mainly set up for pickup and delivery. Food was solid, and we especially loved the Sweet Chili Wings—really tasty!

Neat little cafe that sells amazing Thai food!! Drunken noodles were delicious with well cooked and tender duck, and had a good amount of kick at medium spice level. Pad Thai with beef was great as well, providing that unique combination of sweet and sour so characteristic of this Thai dish. It might not be the best Thai restaurant I have been to, but so far the best I found in San Diego. Definitely recommend!!

I have tried so many different Thai restaurants since I moved to San Diego in 2011. I have yet to find my go to, blow away place until today. Let me just say, wow! I am very picky when it comes to leaving 5 star reviews, but, Bahn Thai truly deserves it!
A foodie enthusiast, coworker, like myself, recommended this amazing place- and boy, it did not disappoint. This will absolutely be my go to from here on out not only for me,but my teenage son as well.
I ordered curry, fried rice and spring roles- so looking forward to exploring more of the menu!

This family-owned restaurant is casual and trendy and truly a “hole-in-wall,” serving up delicious, and not your ordinary, Thai food! VERY busy, so that speaks to its popularity! It offers only a few outdoor tables that are first come, first served. There is no indoor seating, so it’s best to plan for takeout. Or, you might get lucky like us and snag a table to enjoy your food and people-watching! It’s definitely worth checking out!

Bahn Thai is an 5-star hole in the wall Thai restaurant! Easy to miss but if you’re going during prime time there will be a long line and long wait. I recommend ordering takeout over the phone before arriving. They are in such high demand, they’ve removed indoor seating and added 3 more cash registers. Outdoor seating is now only outdoors and limited to 5 4-top tables. We came during off hours on a Saturday and the restaurant was still busy and all the tables were taken from 2-4pm.
Now to the food—Every dish bursts with authentic flavor, fresh ingredients, and that perfect balance of sweet, savory, and spicy that makes Thai cuisine so addictive. The Pad See Ew was rich and smoky, Tom Yum soup, pad Thai, and the Green Curry were creamy and aromatic with just the right heat, and the Mango Sticky Rice? Perfection.
The service is warm and attentive — you can tell they care about both their food and their customers. The ambiance is busy and inviting, whether you’re dining outdoors or picking up takeout. It’s become one of my go-to Thai spots in town, and I always leave satisfied. Highly recommend Bahn Thai to anyone craving delicious, comforting, and authentic Thai food!
