This place was a disappointment. The quesadilla was swimming in grease and juice each time I lifted it to take a bite. I returned it and showed them the liquid that was making the entire tortilla soggy. The cook said he would remake and the second one was just as bad if not worse. It fell apart and was impossible to eat. I feel so sick to my stomach after all the grease.

A Mixed Plate of Pros and Cons
First Impressions
We popped in for lunch and opted to dine inside, though the drive-thru was hopping. The restaurant was clean, the staff was warm and welcoming, and the vibe overall felt casual but efficient; exactly what you’d want from a fast-casual taco spot.
What We Tried
I ordered the chicken quesadilla with double meat, and my friend had the steak quesadilla plate with rice and beans. Loved that you can customize with your own salsa and toppings. Points for the fresh bar setup.
The Good
• Clean space + friendly team = solid environment.
• Plenty of food and drink options, including some popsicles that were calling my name.
• Taco Tuesday deals look worth circling back for.
The Meh
Here’s where things got a little lukewarm… literally.
• My chicken was dry and a bit on the bland side.
• The guacamole salsa rescued it slightly, but flavor overall was lacking.
• Red onions in my quesadilla? Bold choice. Most traditional Hispanic cuisine leans on white onions, and honestly, that red onion flavor took over the whole bite.
Latina Perspective
As a Latina, I’ll admit, I walked in with higher expectations for flavor, and unfortunately, this didn’t quite hit the cultural comfort zone. It wasn’t bad, just… forgettable. And when it comes to Mexican food, that’s almost worse.
Would I Go Back?
Maybe… on Taco Tuesday, when the price point makes up for the letdown. But for now, I’m filing this one under “fine, but not fierce.”

Update 08/2/25 – Still great fast service, still mouthwatering delicious food and still such a clean restaurant. One of my faves!
We really enjoyed dinner at Backyard Taco. I can see why it’s so popular. The servings were plentiful, and their condiment bar is amazing. I love finding pico de gallo that isn’t 90% onions. Service was great and everyone was really friendly. It made me want to come back immediately. I can’t say that happens everywhere.

It’s tough to find a good Mexican restaurant in Queen Creek. When this place opened, its one of the better options we have here. Not great authentic Mexican food, but not horrible. However, the constant mistakes on our order, hit and miss on portions, and dry meat is why we no longer come here. Unless, you have time to go in and order your food, 95% the time they will mess up your order at the drive-thru.

Ordered pollo bowl… CHICKEN AND CABBAGE ONLY!!!! Drove all the way home and ended up with rice and beans in the bowl… Not sure how confusing CHICKEN and CABBAGE in the bowl only is but obviously it was quite a challenge. Not the first time this has happened either. Guess I will have to start checking my food before we leave. So annoying pay a lot for the amount of food you get and then it’s completely wrong …. Probably won’t go back. There are so many other places that can make two ingredient order correctly.

I reached out to Backyard Taco for catering my Halloween Party. Not only was I impressed by the swift responses but the food was absolutely incredible. The carne asada and al pastor were incredibly flavorful and we had so much salsa, beans, rice, and other toppings to enjoy. The customer service when I arrived was remarkable. Even gave me utensils and helped me load my car. Absolutely positive experience and will be catering from this location again. You guys made my party very special. Thank you so much!

Not overly busy. We walked right up to order. It was over 25 minutes to get 5 tacos and a potato. Forks and napkins were empty. They were calling order maybe every 10 minutes. Then screwed up our simple order. The food is good but for a fast food place with a basic menu this is pretty sad. The cashier was super nice though. But they seemed to be clueless tonight. Lots of people waiting after us but the place still wasn’t full

Delicious food and friendly staff. Chicken stuffed quesadilla was full of flavor and shredded beef taco was great! I’m thinking the negative reviews are from when they just opened and were packed. I suggest to try when they’re not as busy. You won’t be disappointed.

Last night was our first time trying Backyard Taco. We ordered the family meal, with carne asada, a kids’ cheese quesadilla, family-size beans and rice, a jamaica, and kids’ drinks for about $66 (crazy, right?) Upon unpacking the food at home, we noticed that the portion size could barely feed one of my teens, and even the kids’ meal size was so small, more appropriate for a toddler. The family meal came with finely minced cabbage and red onion, as well as charred jalapeños and onions. We tasted the meat before making the actual tacos, and it was flavorless; not even salt was added and it appeared very greasy. The addition of minced cabbage and red onion was strange. Cabbage is typically shredded, so less water content comes out, and chopped white onion is more traditional. We made our tacos and upon tasting the hot sauce, there was again no flavor, just heat. I appreciated the heat in the sauce (finally someone isn’t afraid to use heat), but it tasted like spicy orange-ish water. The onion/jalapeño mix was decent. The jamaica tasted like they used the powder to mix the drink instead of actually making it fresh from hibiscus petals. The quesadilla was mediocre and not enough to feed my kid. The kids’ drink we got was limonada (and a .50 cent upcharge), and that was definitely made with a powdered mix. It was very sad that the meal was so costly, less than mediocre, and my kids still had to eat something else at home. This is definitely not a representation of Authentic Mexican food as they described. The service was ok. We went through the drive-through and the food was ready promptly, but they were about to forget our drinks until I reminded them. I gave the atmosphere a 1-star because it’s irrelevant since we went through the drive-thru, and N/A was not available.

The drive through lady seems to hate her job and it’s been the 3rd or 2nd time in a row that I ask for green salsa and limes and she gives me everything but that, even after telling her twice she even asked me at the window so I know she’s doing it on purpose. I’m not usually the type to complain but definitely won’t be going here again.
