Hailing from magical Mazatlan, Mexico, Ruben and Maricela know something about Tacos al Carbon. They started grilling scrumptious tacos for their family and neighbors in 2005. Word spread about their creations and more and more people came as the legend of their tacos grew. Soon people started following them to stranger’s backyards just to get some of the delicious food off the grill. Our recipe for success is always fresh ingredients and our mesquite grill. It’s a combo that gives us the authentic taste of Tacos al Carbon. We keep our menu simple because we only offer what we do best. Come by, grab some tacos and a Mexican Coke and relax in our yard!

Definitely some delicious food! We had Chicken taco plate, Bueno Bowl with chicken, Chips Salsa. The flour tortillas were soft and fluffy and the Chicken was seasoned well and flavorful. Every thing was served fresh and very quick. Plan on it being busy around the normal lunch and dinner times. The service was excellent and very friendly, nice atmosphere too. The portions were good too. Would recommend trying these restaurants out if you are near one, but also worth a drive. Will have to come back and try their other menu items.

The Original! Take out, and it was delicious! Would repeat again and again if it was closer to me. Anyway, flour and corn tortillas were fresh and yummy, all the sides were great and sauces were amazing! The Habanero sauce had a bite. The word is that this original location separates from the newer locations when it comes to the flavor, but I’ll try them out next when I get some time. Authentic and worth a visit.

We enjoyed VEGAN tacos here! Beans and rice and then they have an amazing fresh salsa bar with delicious onions, cucumbers, radishes and pico de gallo!! Amazing options to add to those vegan tacos!! Highly recommend!! Very fair prices, too!!

This is such a charming original location for Backyard Taco! The staff was exceptional and their customer service and the birria tacos on corn tortillas with guacamole, the red sauce and the pickled onions were absolutely mouthwatering!

Outstanding in all areas, presentation, plentiful in portions, and the taste is by far the best ..ever. You HAVE TO TRY THESE!!!! The service is great, and the time to get your orders is definitely not long. I found my permanent Taco spot. Thanks

There are Backyard Tacos popping up all over these days, however, they are not all created equal! The one on University in Mesa is by far the best one in Phoenix! Everything about it is authentic. I love eating tacos on their patio!!

I placed an order online for our employee appreciation event and selected the food to be picked up at 5:40-550p the staff called me at 5p asking if I was going to be picking up my order soon as it was done by 430p. When I explained that I was currently working and could not pick it up before 540p-550p that was why I selected those timeframes the lady shot back well we do not get the times. I said ok is my food going to be cold and dry if I leave it there she stated we will probably have to remake it. I replied ok great thanks I will be in to pick up the order as I arranged online. At 530p another employee called me to ask if I was going to pick up the order or not. Mind you my order was over $300 and already been paid for so I explained to him the same situation and asked if they had to remake my food he cut me off and advised my order was done and needed to be picked up I asked him what the issue was I chose the pick up time I had confirmation of the time as well. I let him know my staff was on the way to pick up the order and my food needed to be hot and fresh he then hung up on me.

The atmosphere is very warm and inviting, however, the presentation of the food is substandard and leaves more to be desired, but I will say that the quality of food is exceedingly decent and I would definitely eat here again!
