We stopped at Back to Captain’s on our way to a wedding at Erickson Farmstead. We had just enough time for a drink. The service was friendly and fast. Nice place. But the highlight of the visit was the giant pretzel. We’ve had a few giant pretzels before, but nothing like this. It was size of a large plate and very thick And it was super fresh, like it was just made. It was an amazing pretzel that we talked and joke about for the rest of the Minnesota trip. Do yourself a favor and make a trip to Back to Captain’s and order a giant pretzel… and a cold IPA.

We had a server that it was her first day and she did great. This was my first time at this place and I hope to be back soon. A lot of good stuff on the menu. The food was great, the service was great and it’s really a fun atmosphere. (Fries are amazing!) I hope to come back in the summer when it’s in full swing as it’s an awesome layout for fun!

This was a cute establishment off the lake. The food was okay, but it was not bad, just not a wow.
The staff was super friendly, which I can see regulars coming here.
We ordered wings, I like them more crispy- don’t be shy, fry them extra crispy
Our order got mixed up, but I don’t worry about the small stuff, it was fixable.
French dip sandwich- it was good. I think the hoagie could be more toasted.
Burger (cannot remember the name) it was pretty tasty.

First time here. I was supposed to meet someone who didn’t show. It had never heard of it, but by the pretty full parking lot and the scenery, it sure looked like it would be a great place. I had a Coors on tap and the classic BLT. The beeer wasn’t cold, it was cooler than room temperature but not much. The sandwich came out and tasted great, but I will give a 6.67/10. Generally, a BLT has Bacon Lettuce AND Tomato….but, not this beauty…..they missed the tomato altogether. Maybe its a new recipe. Could have been rectified, but the server never addressed me again until my plate and glass were empty. I will probably visit again, I dont judge a place solely on a first visit. There weren’t many people there, and as I said, the person I was supposed to meet also never showed.

Back to Captains is situated along the western shore of Long Lake about seven miles west of the city of Isanti. You’ll need to put your GPS on to find it because of its rural location plus some of the little turns you need to get to the destination. Nice spot for a quick bite or a drink especially on a summer day. See they also have outdoor patio seating available to take advantage of those warm summer days. Started things off with bar drinks and a small appetizer plate of six wings and dipping sauce. Wings were cooked well and very tasty. Good way to start off lunch. For my entree had a delicious shaved beef sandwich which I ordered Philly style with au jus. My guest ordered the smothered chicken breast and garlic potatoes which he said was just a tad dry but OK. Service by our combined server and bartender was very good. If you’re taking a side trip outside the Minneapolis/St Paul Metro area and in the area would definitely check out Back to Captains.

Part of me wants to keep Back to Captain’s a well-kept secret, but it’s simply too good not to share. This hidden gem offers an exceptional dining experience that’s hard to match.
We started with their incredible Breakfast Skillet. Packed with perfectly cooked hashbrowns, fresh vegetables, and your choice of meats, I got the bacon. This skillet is a hearty and delicious way to begin your morning. Each bite bursts with flavor, making it an unforgettable dish. I usually have trouble finishing my plate, but I couldn’t help but eat every bite of this!
My partner ordered the Mushroom Swiss Burger, which is a must-try. The juicy, perfectly cooked beef patty is topped with savory mushrooms and melted Swiss cheese, all in a fresh, soft bun. It’s a rich and satisfying burger that stands out from the rest. I had a bite and it was so delicious with great flavors. He got a side of fries with it as well and omgoodness, they were soooooo good!! The slight sweetness they have gave them all they needed to be an absolute delight. I could just sit and eat the fries all day long.
You can’t leave without trying their renowned Bloody Mary. I’m very picky about my Bloody Mary’s, and this was one of the best I’ve had in Minnesota so far. For me, a Bloody Mary should have flavor and not just taste like watered down vodka with a hint of tomato. They nailed this mix, it has all the flavor. Crafted with just the right amount of spice, this drink pairs perfectly with any meal.
Despite wanting to keep this spot low-key, Back to Captain’s deserves to be celebrated. The friendly atmosphere, excellent service, and mouth-watering dishes make it a standout in Isanti. Plus, its on the lake, and that for me is just another highlight. Highly recommended!

There were 6 in our group. We choose to sit on patio. Lot’s of seating indoors or outdoors. A couple of guys with guitars played and sang on patio and were very good, that was on a Friday evening. Food and service was also very good.
