Inside Pony Village Mall. I had the brisket dip, he had brisket meal with collard greens and beans. OMG. Delicious! The meat was tender and smokey, juicy. The sides were all full of flavor and just right. Even got to taste the potato salad. Service was friendly and fast for Coos Bay. 10/10 we will eat here again.

“Back Street BBQ” is located just inside the door of Pony Village Mall in North Bend, Oregon. The restaurant is set up for “to go” service, but there are multiple tables available inside the mall lobby. I wish they offered a sampler plate so I could’ve tasted all the different meats without breaking the bank! Most of their single meat platters cost around $23 with 2 sides. Most of their sandwiches cost around $18 with 1 side. They also offer smaller “slider” sandwich meals starting at $11.50 with 1 side. Being a lifelong fan of Texas barbecue, I ordered the Brisket Sandwich ($18), with “Cowboy Caviar” as the side. There was a brief, enticing whiff of BBQ smoke upon opening the box, but it quickly dissipated. There was only a little bit of mild smoke flavor in the huge meat chunks on my sandwich. (I did ask the staff, and they apparently always serve their brisket in chunks, not slices, including on their brisket platter.) At the same time, it was definitely barbecued and not “pot roast-y” at all, so I was glad for that. The portions were amply sized, and the Cowboy Caviar side dish was excellent! It’s a vinaigrette-based bean salad made with black-eyed peas, red beans, corn and sweet peppers. Haven’t seen that on many menus in the PNW, so it was a rare treat! They offer two BBQ sauces, sweet or hot; both were similar in style, thick and cloying, probably based on ketchup and honey. Both sauces were tasty and would be well matched with their pork ribs, chicken or pulled pork. I asked about their cole slaw, whether it was creamy style or vinegary, and they told me it is sweet and includes diced pineapple, which was new to me. Their menu also lists desserts of bread pudding and butter cake, but what I saw in their display case this day was pre-packaged “Nazook,” a rolled Armenian pastry filled with walnuts. Overall, this is not the traditional Texas-style barbecue that I’m always hunting for, but it is interesting enough that I want to go back again and explore more of their menu.

Wow. I’m a wayward Southerner who has been trying and failing to find good barbecue. I live in Portland and I’ve come to accept that there may not be any good legit BBQ anywhere near. Well while I was in town, I decided to try the random BBQ place across the street from my hotel. I’m damn glad I did.

Any good BBQ place knows that the sides make the meal. The mac and cheese, cowboy caviar, and banana pudding was fantastic. The brisket was cooked just right and the BBQ sauces were perfectly sweet and spicy. Even the sandwich bun was good.

I wish I could come back more often. I’ll definitely stop by again whenever I’m in the area again.

Absolutely delicious! Best corn bread I’ve had in a while. The jalapeño cheddar sausage was so juicy and delicious. I hope everyone tries it out

Listen y’all, not only was the food amazing, but they were quick, accommodating (I am allergic to far too many foods, and they worked with me), and so friendly. They gave the kids a toy, made great suggestions, and were so pleasant. Thank you Back Street BBQ!

The only reason I gave them a 4 in atmosphere is honestly just because they’re in a mall. We really didn’t have a problem with it and think they did the best they could, given the situation.

The food was really really really good. Especially the curly fries. The mix of thin, crunchy fries, and “thicker”, creamy fries was the best experience I’ve ever had with fries without having ranch. I didn’t even feel the need to have ranch with the fries. They were just amazing. The tri tip, collard greens, sauce, pulled pork, brisket, and corn bread were all as amazing as you would hope them to be. Everything was tender and flavorful.

Came here for lunch and ordered the 3 meats and 3 sides for family of 4. Service was fast and friendly. Brisket was tender and full of smoke flavor, chicken was tender and juicy, pulled pork was delicious. Potato salad and Mac n cheese were solid and tasty. Highly recommended.

This is a walk up counter food service restaurant inside the pony village mall. It has tables outside the restaurant in the mall hallway. The atmosphere is not great due to this. There was loud music from the dance studio echoing in the hallway so loud that we couldn’t talk to each other.

The location is accessible to all including a wheelchair ramp access at the mall door.

There are no bathrooms on site. To access a bathroom you have to walk further into the mall and use mall ones.

The staff were friendly, knowledgeable and quick with their service. Very happy with the interaction.

The restaurant was clean and tidy. No spills or left over trays. All the tables were clean and straight.

They provide bbq sauce pumps and paper portion cups. You eat out of cardboard to go boxes with plasticware. The meat does not come with sauce on it. The brisket was slightly dry with an abundance of smoky flavor but not much else in the seasoning department aside from the added sauce. Good brisket doesn’t need sauce but this brisket did. The sides are delightful though. The baked beans have shredded meat in them, the mac appears homemade and the potato salad was amazing. The coleslaw was fresh and crisp with just the right amount of sauce in it. The cornbread was generous and dense with a small honey butter portion on the side.

The biggest drawback aside from location was the pricing. The food, location, portion sizes etc do not dictate such a high price per meal. There’s no way this restaurant is going to survive in that price point. We all agreed that while the food was basically tasty, we wouldn’t pay that price to eat there again.

As they just opened, I was a bit generous with the stars. We had just heard the ad on the radio as we were looking for a place to eat. I was glad to see a BBQ place that had more than pulled pork, chicken, or beef sandwiches. They have those, but they also have pork ribs, chicken, and tri tip meals. The meals give you the choice of 2 sides; mac and cheese, baked beans, cowboy caviar,Cole slaw, and cornbread. The place is new and clean but isn’t what you’d call a full service restaurant. It has tables in the mall itself. Not exactly what I’d call dining in. You order at the counter, like at a fast food joint. The person taking our order was pleasant and helpful and pointed out where the soda machine was and where to get our napkins and bbq sauce. He told us that he would bring us our order when it was ready. It was pretty quick and I thought that the portion was ample. I had the pork rib meal which had 5 ribs, and I had the cornbread and the mac&cheese. The ribs were very good, cooked with just a bit of sauce instead of simmered in it. The cornbread was excellent, moist and sweet. The mac&cheese was over cooked and had the texture of gummy mush. I put this down to being newly opened. My wife had the chicken thigh meal, and had the cornbread and slaw. She thought that the coleslaw was very good but the chicken thighs (2) were very dry and the skin was tough. Again, this could be because they just opened, and there is a learning curve that has to be expected. Overall, the meal was good. We each had a small soda, and the bill came to $48. We thought that this was a bit expensive for someplace that you order at the counter and pour your own soda. We probably won’t be making this a regular place to eat.

Tri tip had no flavor all you taste is liquid smoke bun was not even toasted, macaroni was overcooked which made it soggy my kid wouldn’t even eat and he loves Mac and cheese it also had no flavor fries were burnt everything had to be doused with sauce and salt . My family is very disappointed and the pricing is outrageous especially with low quality food. Staff didn’t know a lot about the food like what was in it or names etc. the staff were nice though. Unfortunately no have to eat something else and wasted money ugh.

I was excited to try this place since finding good bbq in this area is almost nonexistent. Unfortunately, I’m still searching.

Both husband and I ordered the sliders: his the 2 slider option so he could try both brisket & tri tip, & I ordered the 1 brisket. Both came with a side which we optioned for Mac & cheese.

First issue: Our order took 20 min to be boxed up and served. The 4 people in front of us got their orders almost immediately and they ordered at the counter just like us.

Second issue: one employee boxed up our food and left on the counter to deal with something else. It sat there for almost 10 min before a different employee looked at it and said, “what is this?”.

Third issue: the meat and buns were cold. And it wasn’t because it had sat there for 10 min. They don’t heat up the slider buns before serving. The brisket and tri tip were cold too. And the sliders are small! Smaller than an English muffin. Mine had 4 tidbit pieces of brisket on it. 🙁

On the plus side, the Mac & cheese was hot. Just lacked any flavor unless you add bbq sauce to it.

Needless to say, for $35 and all of the above issues, we’ll keep searching. Shame really – as we always are trying to support our local community, but sometimes, you just can’t.
