Ordered the Hainanese chicken, Beef Stew, and Baked Fish Fillet with Rice and really enjoyed all three dishes. Hainanese chicken was tasty & “crispy” (not fried but well textured), the Beef brisket came very quickly and was very well flavored, and the baked fish fillet was a pleasant surprise and great for sharing. If I had to nitpick, I wish the beef was a little warmer (it felt like they had a big batch prepared) and that the scallion sauce for the chicken was more flavorful.
We also got drinks and they were all enjoyable. The strawberry and mango milks were especially a hit! Would definitely come again.
Baby Cafe in San Leandro is a fantastic addition to the local food scene, offering a delightful experience with its authentic Hong Kong-style fast food. From the moment you step inside, you’re greeted by a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. The staff are efficient and always ready with a smile, making you feel right at home.
The food itself is the star of the show. On my recent visit, I tried their 干炒牛河 (Dry Beef Chow Fun) and the 海南雞 (Hai Nan Chicken), and both were exceptional. The 干炒牛河 was packed with flavor and had that wonderful “wok hey” – the slightly charred aroma and taste that comes from stir-frying at high heat – which is a hallmark of great Cantonese cooking. The portion of beef was generous and tender.
The 海南雞 was also a standout. The chicken was incredibly moist and flavorful, and it came with a fragrant rice that complemented it perfectly. It’s clear that Baby Cafe pays attention to the quality and preparation of their dishes.
Beyond the excellent food, the service is also noteworthy. Even when I forgot to request utensils with my order, the kind lady at the cashier happily provided them and gently reminded me to select that option in the future. It’s these small touches that make a big difference in the overall dining experience.
Whether you’re looking for a quick and tasty lunch or a satisfying dinner, Baby Cafe is a must-try in San Leandro. The prices are reasonable for the quality and portion sizes you receive. I’ll definitely be returning to explore more of their menu and highly recommend it to anyone craving authentic and delicious Hong Kong-style food. Don’t miss out on this gem!
Make sure to come early (before 11:45) during the weekend, or be prepared to wait for a table.
The restaurant gets very busy from 11:45am onwards and not only it is a wait for a table, but also getting the waiter/waitress attention to order and even to pay the bill. So plan accordingly.
The baked dishes and the sizzling plates takes 15-30 minutes extra so if you are planning to have these, order immediately when you’re seated, or go early so they are ready when you expect to have your meal.
10/10 would recommend
tips:
– perfect for family, kids, dates, and friends
– lots of parking available within the plaza
– good for lunch and dinner
– lots of options and has vegetarian friendly options
The service wasn’t very good. Maybe it was due to them recently opening, but they seemed to be not organized. Seating alone took a while. For some reason the hostess was holding the sign in sheet while walking around. This caused confusion at the door as new guess who walked in would stand there wondering what to do. As mentioned, the hostess was walking around and thus wasn’t at the front.
When we were seated, after someone took our seat, which we spoke to the hostess about, we ordered the food. The food came out in a timely mannor, but flavor wise, it was just okay. However the price made it not so good. For food, here is pricey. Could be inflation.
The parking was terrible. People were circling even in the back of the plaza.
