Ba Le Sandwiches | Chicago IL – Facebook

Over 20 years in the making. It has been an honor serving the greater Chicago area with the freshest baguettes and banh mis.

This is my new favorite bahn mi spot, the classic is just perfect. The bread is so light and delicately crisp, I could taste all the individual meats and that mayonnaise was incredible. They also have tons hot and cold grab and go items. The prices were decent for the city.

I’ve been to Ba Le in Uptown a few times, and I’d say it’s a place with some highs and lows depending on what you’re looking for. The biggest draw here for many people is the banh mi, but honestly, that was the most disappointing part of my visits. The flavor just isn’t there compared to other Vietnamese bakeries in Chicago. The bread is decent, but the fillings lack the freshness and punch you’d expect. For a spot that’s so well-known for its sandwiches, I was really underwhelmed.

On the other hand, the snacks and ready-made foods they keep out on display are much better. Things like spring rolls, pastries, and various small bites actually hit the mark. They’re tasty, convenient, and fun to grab if you want something quick to eat without committing to a full meal. In some ways, I think these little side items showcase the strengths of Ba Le more than the banh mi itself.

The biggest drawback for me is definitely the pricing. For what you get, it’s just too expensive. There are other bakeries and restaurants in the city that not only serve better-quality banh mi, but do so at a lower price point. When you factor in the competition, Ba Le feels overpriced and not worth making a regular stop.

The store itself is clean and has a nice variety of items, so I can see why it appeals to people who want convenience. But if you’re coming here specifically for a banh mi, I’d suggest trying one of the many other spots in Chicago where the sandwiches are fresher, tastier, and more affordable.

Overall, Ba Le has some good snacks, but the banh mi and pricing leave a lot to be desired.

Although this place is always busy, their service is fast and the quality to their food is great. I haven’t been able to find a better bánh mi place so far!!! This is the place I go to or order online from when I’m craving an authentic Chinese pork bánh mi and chạo tôm. Staff is really friendly and helpful as well 🙂 i love how there are other fresh food options you in person, including desserts, that you can take home and try.

got the mango eggplant and tofu banh mi. first off, the bread was just fantastic. amazing crunch, amazing flavor, all the nice things. the eggplant and tofu filling lacked flavor, but the crunchy pickles and again, the amazing, flavorful roasty toasty bread made up for it.

What happened to you Ba Le?
So the bread is still decent. But did y’all forget how to make a proper sandwich ? Ratio of veggies to meat and the pate vs the Viet mayo .

The sandwiches were just sad. We had vegetarian vegan and meat ones , the taste is bland .

The beef noodle soup… our fault for ordering it.

Got the banh mi #1 special, and it tasted just like a perfectly good banh mi. Exactly what I came here for.

What I like about this place though is they have a good variety of goodies in the front which is nice to have, and they have seating areas inside and outside.

The location is also nice as it’s right on Argyle and close to the red line.

It’s a great place, and if somebody you know wants banh mi, this is a solid recommendation.

Second time in this restaurant. We ordered vegetables sandwiches. They were fresh and delicious. Friendly customer service. The Mango smoothies were very good. I do recommend this place.

Dump! Went downhill and fast. The food and service were great and once they started getting noticed by the press, little by little things went bad. Less product on the sandwiches, food in fridgeearator is not food grade containers. Staff is rude and they don’t play vietnamese music. Cafe goes in smaller cups now. Wish old owner see how his daughter and husband changed it. The soup, no flavor. So sad

No frills. The Banh Mi is excellent, comparable to the many I’ve had in Vietnam, and the egg rolls outstanding. It’s a bit of a mess in the front, a big crowd on weekends, and very little in way of seating. It will take a while to get your sandwich as service is slow when busy, but worth the wait.

Great spot for consistently good sandwiches. They sell their fresh baked bread, have a pretty extensive grab and go section, as well as desserts, smoothies, and a grocery section.

Also, they have amazing vegan sandwich options! I highly recommend the King Oyster mushroom or the eggplant and tofu sandwiches. I was just looking for options for vegan friends that are visiting but I would definitely order again! They were that good.

Metered street parking is available nearby and they do have a picnic table outside.
